And now he's being given plenty of chances to, at the same level, and is producing bang average performances.

Most of our squad aren’t effective PL players. The point is it is impossible for him to have been less effective than the dire Sema for example.

Where does this bang average performances come from. My Forest supporting friend raves about it him.

Is this along the same lines as your assessment of Hughes being “average at best”?!!

Yet still being picked every week, in an in-form team, by a manager who has other options but still prefers Zinckernagel.

You say he’s putting in bang-average performances - so why is he never ever dropped? Maybe the Forest manager has a better grip of how he’s performing?

He's looked average every time I've watched Forest, have Forest supporting family who say can be good on occasion but often ineffective, and most Forest fans on social media seem to think he's okay, not great.

Yes, I believe that right now, Zinckernagel is an average Championship forward, and Will Hughes is an average PL midfielder. Not sure why that's so controversial!

Because their alternative options are also bang-average, or worse? Much like the fact Cathcart starting the vast majority of our games this season is no glowing endorsement of his performances.

You are no newbie around here, frankly I am surprised you are surprised.

If you had started by posting that he should be coming back, superior to what we have, proven at Forest over a period of games etc.... then you would have everything you have posted thrown back at you, plus a bit more no doubt. Probably by the same people. Some people just like to take a contrary position no matter what the subject, may be worth an experiment some time.

    Hahahahahaha.

I agree. Let’s shut down debate and opinion just because some people have different ones.

I literally have no problem with @WatfordTalk different opinion to my own and enjoyed reading what he said last night. I don’t share the opinion but why should we? Nothing was said that was disrespectful or personal so what was the problem?

From what I've heard, he's very inconsistent and splits the Forest fan base.

Most think he's an upper half Championship player with an occasional bit of magic, but one who blows hot and cold and drifts in and out of games.

Essentially the same player we had last year.

But I imagine he's less happy than Sema to rot on the bench.

I'd say the same, Sema is probably well aware of his limitations and is happy to sit on the bench, as soon as Zinckernagel was assured that he wouldn't be starting, I'd imagine he'd have been more keen to move to get minutes

Still baffles me why he’s out on loan whilst we have some of the players we do stinking the place out and having zero creativity.

Baffles me further when we have fans who think it’s the right decision.

He plays every game for Forest and they are in great form. I think it’s very likely they will want to buy him this summer and I think it’s even more likely he will want to go.

Should have brought him back in January.

Every dog has its day. He's nowhere near good enough for us. That being said, he's probably better than calamity Ken.

He is a bit like our team, not good enough for the Premier league but does well in the championship

Players can’t make the step up from the Championship. At least, that’s what we were told whenever anyone criticised the owners for not buying anyone from it.

Just another Gino master plan though really isn’t it?

Have a creative midfielder doing well out on loan (who was also unfairly binned off after being creative for us) - whilst we flail around looking horrendously uncreative. Bring him back in January? Nah. That’s far too obvious and sensible.

Tell you what, that Zinckernagel chap looks pretty decent. Quality passing and vision destroying Leicester. We should put in a cheeky bid for him but I’m not sure Forest would sell.

Exactly. When every member of our squad is just a warrior who will run through brick walls for 90 mins every week, there’s just no room for weak passengers.

‘Kucka is fine. He’s just played too much and should only ever be given 60 mins. But Zinckernagel is not good enough! Never played in the PL, never finishes a game and won’t be able to knock Sarr out of the team at RW (despite him not playing there for Forest and Sarr being out for ages)’

Our squad building has been horrible this season for the main part - but we have made some awful judgment calls on the players we do have as well. That shouldn’t be overlooked. We talk a lot about the players we need and don’t have - but should also speak just as much about the ridiculous nature in which we use the players we do have.

Every Forest game I’ve seen Zinckernagel in he’s been rubbish.

In unrelated news, I didn’t watch the game today.

Only things I can think of is that either he pushed for the move seeing as he wasn't going to be a starter, or we offered teams in the Championship our reserves and they said they'd rather than Zinck than Sema

Looking forward to people joining this thread and saying things like

‘He has one good game against Leicester Reserves and everyone thinks he’s the saviour and good enough for the Premier League! So predictable!’

Whilst simultaneously ignoring that some of us have actually been regularly saying he was good enough ever since we got rid of him.

The impression I had with Zink is we picked him up because we could, and he was free, but as usual there wasn’t any regard for whether we needed him or wanted him. Just seemed like one of those deals Gino couldn’t refuse doing, just like Fletcher. That’s not say Zink couldn’t do a job for us, I just mean to say I think we signed him because it was a good deal, rather than signing him because we wanted him or needed him for a specific role.

He’s blown a bit hot and cold for Forest this season from what I can tell. Seems to run the show one game then by anonymous the next.

I definitely think he would be a better option than Sema, though. Maybe there were doubt about his defensive output but he would be a different profile of creative player for us so v strange we didn’t keep him around as an option this season.

He seems roughly on par with Jed Wallace albeit with a different style of play (here a graphic an analytics guy on Twitter I follow produced when Forest were considering Wallace) and I know you weren’t too keen on him.

As an aside, I found the graphic pretty interesting. Much better in duels than one would have expected but much less effective in creating with his passing.

Exactly this, perhaps we signed him with the departure of Sarr in mind, but ultimately he was free so we snapped him up. Admittedly he's a very versatile player, but we used him to plug gaps more than anything!

He was most definitely a gamble - he wasn't exactly a young prospect when he joined us and was coming from a very poor league - so it would've been hard for the recruitment team to say "he's definitely going to be a starter" as it would've been hard to gauge how he'd adapt. I would've liked him to have more chances in our team last season and had a decent record (6 goal involvements in just over 900 mins isn't bad at all) when he did play although I don't think he'd be a great PL player I think he would've been a decent enough squad option in the PL and offers something a bit different (and is pretty versatile) to the rest of our squad - how Gosling/Sema got in the squad over him I'll never know. Could be a key player for us next season if/when we get relegated.

  34. RS2

I'll be surprised if Forest don't want to keep him and even more surprised if he wants to come back here. We dangled the PL carrot in front of him so he'd sign and then dropped him as soon as he'd helped us get promoted. Players are just numbers on a balance sheet to Gino.
