Genoa offering him a new contract according to the Italian press. It will be interesting to see if he signs it.
Interesting article from earlier today with the Genoa president saying he wont be selling Perotti this summer. Seems to imply we are still chasing him, and ties in with WDsport stating today we are still after another winger. When a club president says a player wont be sold what he really means I wont sell him for the amount Ive been offered so far. I wonder if this has still got some legs. http://talksport.com/football/genoa...target-diego-perotti-will-not-be-sold-summer?
I know, who knows what really happens behind the scenes of the Italian transfer market, but seems a strange statement for the Genoa president to make when everyone thinks the whole thing is dead.
I read it as 'come back in January' which is a real possibility. However I also heard that Perotti isn't too keen on the British weather so we shall see.
Far be it from me to turn down a player of the supposed quality of Perotti, but at this point, when we are almost fitting square pegs in round holes already in terms of including strikers by playing them in midfield, would it not be a bit unnecessary and unfair on other players to sign another winger? When/supposing all our players are fit, we'll already have Diamanti, Jurado and Berghuis as legitimate wingers/attacking midfielders signed for those spots, plus our pre-existing players in the shape of Abdi, Layun and Anya, then the aforementioned strikers in Vydra and Ighalo, not forgetting Nando as it stands. Almost all of those players would already consider themselves to have an argument to be a guaranteed inclusion in that 3, and would you shunt Jurado or Berghuis out of the side (Berghuis when he comes into it!) to accommodate him? It seems to me like we would profit better from bringing in another central midfield as backup/a different tactical option, if we are indeed in the market for further foreign signings. If Perotti did come, I''d bloody love it and you've never hear a complaint from me, but aggressively pursuing his signature doesn't really seem to make that much sense for us at this point.
This square pegs in round holes isn't so much of a factor in Latino football (our newly adopted style) ... The perfect team would be ten Messi's and a goalkeeper.
In a footballing sense I take your point but for the sake of humanity I believe one is more than enough!
In the hysteria of signing Berghuis, I think a lot of people didn't really notice that he is very unlikely to be ready for regular Premier League football. Too inexperienced at the top level and not physically ready. He'll be a good project for Quique though, and the more he trains the more ready he'll be. Diamanti is a loan signing to provide some real quality competition/cover. Really, at the moment we're looking at Abdi and Jurado as players who will likely play if fit. Anya, Layun and Paredes will compete for places when we're looking to play the same way as at Goodison Park. Ighalo, Vydra and 'mystery winger' will have more of a shout when we're at home. Throw in the fact that some of those players, perhaps Paredes and maybe even Berghuis if he isn't deemed ready for this first half of the season, may not make the squad. Also throw in that Ighalo will probably deputise for Deeney on occasion, and I think we have a good number.
He's made 70 appearances scoring 19 goals for AZ in the top flight of Dutch football. I think he might be ready (as soon as he's match fit).
Based on what, a gut feeling? ... Because mine is totally the opposite. He joined us late and will need to get up to speed but then I think he'll be used at the first opportunity.
He is the best centre half this country has !! I think he is a total p***k but what a fantastic defender.
I was thinking that the other day Jellyman but on second thoughts, I think we're just waiting for Berghuis to be up to speed and fully fit, not wanting to throw him in the deep end. He'll be a regular starter within the next couple of months.
Best English one maybe but so what? ... I'll never forgive him for his rank performance against Germany in 2010, when it really mattered. And he's a total p***k, I'd rather sign Barton.
I disagree. I don't think he was ever signed with the intention of being a key player this year, unless he advances a lot faster than planned. I'd be thrilled to be wrong, but I'll be very surprised if he is a regular starter for us this season.
I just don't think Gino would pay £4m+ for a back-up/development player. And I don't think Berghuis would turn down being a starter for PSV to be a back-up for us. The words from his agent when he joined "“We like the attitude of Watford, we like the playing style, the project and how they plan to use him" suggests to me he's seen as a key player. Also, WD Sport seem pretty convinced, although I'm not sure if that's based on something they've heard, or a hunch. https://twitter.com/WDSport_/status/624862181541171200
Agreed. if he was 19 or 20 I might agree with Jellyman but he's not, he's 24 and he cost a lot of money.
Really? A lot of money to spend on a not-particularly-young player if we have no expectation of him being involved much this season. He's come in, he's physically not up to the level we require, but the club will get him there in a matter of weeks.
