I always feel there's a void that needs filling after any tournament i've been glued to. Still, it's only less than a year until the Commonwealth Games in Brum. Hopefully, somewhere in Wales will get to stage it sometime in my lifetime :)

It was certainly a nice distraction for a couple of weeks like it always is. It didn't disappoint and compares really well with past Olympiads despite the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic. The other staff and competitors still managed to create a din in the indoor arenas which helped too.

    Apart from rowing.

Yer, turning to my games teachers at school and expressing a desire to learn dressage would have resulted in much scorn. In fact, Mr Barrett would have called me a p00f and kicked my ar$e until it was a jelly. I hope and expect things to be more enlightened these days, errrrr, we'd love too but we haven't got the funding, and the horses make a bit of a mess don't they, just run round the sports field a few times instead.

The lawn will be a mess but the roses will be prize-winning.

Could have Sabre fencing too instead of Epee. They're just like big knives. Horse riding to replaced with e-scooters or mopeds. Swimming to be replaced by jumping into the Thames and trying to swim to the other side, dodging the transport boats and the dive-bombing seagulls. It could work.

They also didn't play Turning Japanese by The Vapors, probably because it's about masturbation and not about the inhabitants of the land of the rising sun.

Well there always has to be some form of League Table like in most aspects of life.

Why not introduce a Platinum medal, like they did when introducing A* grading system in exams. That way Bronze could be awarded to fourth place and the rowers would have a *****-load more medals.

The Japanese Geishas probably couldn't handle another mass visit by the IOC. It's going to take them decades to recover.

Yes, but the media executives are convinced everything needs to be condensed down into a 90 minute circus which they can more easily market and sell.

Their funding bodies are extremely keen on it.

Are they? I thought they looked at number of medals, and colour, not place in the table. Certainly those seem to be the GB targets.

If you haven’t watched Gold Rush then you’ll see it’s all about the finish in the table first and foremost

Well, OK fair enough. All I’ve read in the media is about targets in terms of numbers of medals and golds.

It’s worth watching if you’re interested, three part series on iplayer. Medals and colour of medals is a factor, but first and foremost they set targets for specific finishes in the table

I didn't notice any of the athletes taking off their silver medal in disgust like our w@nky footballers did after the Euros

Really? I thought everyone knew that.

Just like everyone knows the sax solo on ‘Baker Street’ is played by Bob Holness.

"Turning Japanese" is about a girlfriend .
The Saxamaphone on Baker Street was definitely not anyone other than Raphael Ravenscroft.
I am not more knowledgeable about these things but am not afraid to use Google.

Well, some people you think would know, don’t know.

And some people you’d think would never know, surprisingly do know.

It’s a scary world out there.

    What a plank the EU Brexit Committee Chairman is;

    https://twitter.com/guyverhofstadt/status/1423216531282989056

Does he not realise that the fact that the EU enters the competition as separate nations means there could be 2 or 3 from each EU country going for each medal, or 27 times the number of entrants than from each USA and China, or UK.

    What a numbskull.

Along with hairy palms, but it's quite difficult to get a song title out of that one.

Hairy Palmer - The D1ckpress File. Great name for a pr0n parody.

Bob Holness - the second actor ever to play James Bond:
"In 1955, he received his first job as a radio presenter and, a year later, became the second actor to portray James Bond (after Barry Nelson in the 1954 TV special "Casino Royale") in a radio production of Moonraker for the SABC's Springbok Radio."

And that dear Blofeld is Blockbuster!!!

Interesting numbers and I'm surprised at some of the comparisons. However, (I may have this wrong as I did it in my head) that seems like a total in the region of £235m to £245m. Although not sure how the figures play out per year with 3 years following the last 5 years.

I've got nothing to base this on, but that sounds like reasonable value for money to me in terms of jobs, facilities and the motivational effects gained for young potential sportspeople and general fitness.

'Tearful' little Benny Whittaker did after getting a beating from (ahem) Cuban Arlen Lopez in the gold medal bout.

    https://www.insider.com/boxer-upset-silver-refused-to-wear-medal-on-the-podium-2021-8

What a Tőzsér! "Tears ran down his cheeks" while he stood and sulked on the podium, refusing to congratulate (or even look at) our Arlen. Took his medal and shoved it straight in his pocket.

As the commentators say; Look at his face, just look at his face!
