VAT on private school fees. Not raising the rate of Income tax are two that come to mind. I am sure there are many others. The real point of course is how things look in 36 months time as the next general election draws closer.
Oh. Must be something else that’s making you p155ed off! I fully agree with your views on I’m a (z-list, so-called) Celebrity.
I'm no "Starmer lover" but it's only been 4 months FFS. I thought Johnson was an idiot (I was right) but even I didn't have a hissy fit after 4 months of his premiership!
There's been a lot of crying from the loonies on X about ongoing support for Ukraine but here it is, in the manifesto: I've also seen the £3bn for Ukraine listed as one of Starmer's 'lies'. Which just shows the extent of deliberate misinformation that's going into this nonsense campaign.
From 'you lost, get over it,' and 'your six million petition for a second referendum is meaningless' to Sharron Davies and Michael Caine rallying the call for a general election within four months of the last one... Quite the meltdown from some of the right's most vocal agitators on social media.
Exactly. Why the hell the Tory strategists didn’t spot this link is beyond me. Or perhaps they thought it was a historical documentary?
Awww but it's really funny. It's now like Facebook was when it went over the hill and no one under the age of 30 was using it anymore.
LOL at those that signed the petition, surely no one was gullible enough to actually believe it would have any impact? The usual right-wing obsessed social media agitators are going to have to suck it up, because they've got another 4+ years of Labour and probably another term after that. Womp, womp. https://newsthump.com/2024/11/25/pe...e-long-list-of-the-nations-dumbest-imbeciles/
Vauxhall factory closure announced.... another triumph for Mad Ed and his utterly pointless net zero by 2030 'race'
CORRECTION The situation at Vauxhall is, in fact, down largely to the Tories who came up with the bonkers green legislation that has forced Vauxhall's hand. Sorry Mad Ed
In a shocking development, it turns out a Tory voter started the General Election petition: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr4ly6p2wxvo
If manufacturers aren't selling enough electric cars then rather than bleat on about subsidies maybe they should ask potential customers why they aren't buying them. In general the electric offerings from the UK based manufacturers are crap and expensive. They need to look at themselves rather than go cap in hand to the tax payer who shouldn't subsidise rich people getting cheaper new cars.
It's infrastructure innit? We're probably at a point where we'd consider one as our next family car. And prices have dropped big time - Tesla's PCP deals in the past few months have been cheaper than lots of the other manufacturers. But we live in a terraced house so can't charge at home and that pretty much kills the idea.
Stick a small diesel generator in the boot. Job done. In all seriousness the whole way the market is set-up is *****. If a company can't make it's quota of electric sales it can buy credits from companies that do, Mainly Chinese like MG, BYD etc. or it can pay a£15K per non ev sale penalty. So what happens is the Chinese stuff gets subsidised and becomes more attrctive. The system is broken and penalising the companies struggling isn't going to fix it. It's just going to cost more in the end as there's less jobs and hence tax collected.
Cowardly Starmer continues to paint himself into an economic corner at PMQs. “Obviously there will be no return to freedom of movement, the customs union or the single market”. The stupid sod still believes that the right-wing press will give him an easier ride if he bleats crap like this. And of course, the economy will remain stagnant and he'll be out on his ear in 2029, replaced by Farage (if he hasn't succumbed to emphysema).
The Labour party line is to ask critics "well you like the investments in public services, so where would YOU get the money from?" Here's a couple of easy ones: 1: 1% online sales tax (easy to administer, just create a VAT code of 21% for online sales) - immediately create a revenue stream that Amazon etc can't avoid. (also helps High Street) 2: Single market and customs union. Nobody voted to leave them in the first place, a purely political judgement.
1 Needs to be agreed worldwide or it will be easy to avoid. 2 Agreed. Apart from slapping tarrifs on countries that are not playing ball with respect to environmental or social norms (and to be honest embargos would do a better job of that) it's just political or protectionism decisions.
