Iggy doesn't seem to start games well, he tries to be too clever and can be frustrating...once he's grown into the game he's a real handful. Also, he can be selfish at times with players in better positions. Other than that...wow.
Ighalo seems to have this bizarre knack of stepping up to every challenge thrown at him and surpassing all expectations. He dramatically improved almost overnight in the Championship and he's done the same thing in the Premier League. He's really starting to grow into that lone striker role now. A few weeks ago he looked completely unsuited to it. My sole criticism of him as this point is he is still far too selfish, shooting in silly places when an unmarked team mate is square. I'm sure QSF is taking him to task over that though.
I agree - but conversely we also have players who prefer to lay off than have a shot and we are sometimes guilty of trying to walk the ball in. Hopefully all our players can find a healthy balance.
Those wispas won't go away. He's only really shown flashes of skill and think we should consider snapping arms off if they become available.
So, where does he rank for us now, all-time? Both in ability/goal scoring and cult status. I think he's now surpassed Vydra, and maybe players like Henderson (Darius!). Our all-time top PL scorer.
his goals to games ratio is obscene, but I don't know how he compares to the historical pantheon just yet. He'd need to do it over a longer time, to be more than a wonderful player who spent a bit of time with us. No terms of his value though, we could slap £25m on him in January and sell him no problem of we wanted to(not that we would). Thank god the club listened to me and didn't sell him for £10m.
Chelsea need a decent striker, that Costco thug is a liability. £20 million will see him go I think, Pozzos probably have a replacement ready for under £10 million. Would be madness to sell him before the end of the season though.
Disagree slightly, I think Danny Graham and Matty Vydra were excellent finishers....both. in my opinion would have made the keeper work with the chances Iggy had against the Arse.
Nothing below £25mill and I'm deadly serious. The Pozzo's will know they are likely to get the following share of the £5bill TV money from next season if he helps us stay up: 50% divided equally between the clubs. 25% awarded to clubs based on their final league position. 25% distributed to clubs as "facilities fee" for televised matches. He's worth more to them by keeping him unless a silly offer comes in.
Austin got 18 goals last year for a crap team that got relegated from the Premier. When Ighalo surpasses this figure this season I will admit I was wrong.
The point is: Iggy refused "silly money" from the Chinese club offer (probably 4x or more his current wages) because he wanted to play in Premier League and show what he's worth instead of being the star in an obscure league. If he continues this way, next Summer he'll have offers of equally silly money (or maybe even more), for playing in Premier. Difficult to refuse, particularly considering that it's very likely that he wouldn't "need" the extra money just to buy two new supercars (Balotelli-style) but he would think that with that money he could afford to help much more his relatives and in general the poor people in his own Country. I've read somewhere he's doing already this sort of things.
I thought he might struggle in the prem, based on not being anything special in La Liga. Very pleased I was wrong. Keeps this rate up he's £30m plus player. £30m plus Ake to Chelsea?
Straight swap for Chalobah. That will fill the Chalobah role and enable us to sell Capoue to Villa for Hogg and £40m.
I have never criticised Ighalo, however I remain of the view that Deeney is just as important to our club. People just need to get things in perspective and evaluate his worth at the end of a full season in the Premier.. If Ighalo is valued at £30m then how much is Vardy worth?
Equates to a goal a game or 38 for the season (I think the record is 31). Let's just say if he could keep that rate up there's not a club in the World wouldn't want him.
Vardy has 11 in 11 in the Premier this season, so based on your argument he would get 38 as well. At the moment as he is English his value would be higher than Ighalo in the market (I have never really understood the reason for this) plus he has more pace. I would reiterate, the time to evaluate his worth is at the end of a full season in the Premier.
