Always been partial to the Lake District myself.

    Some truly incredible views there.

Only problem is you have to climb quite high to get the best of them!

Have you been up any of the popular peaks (Scafell Pike, Helvellyn, Blencathra, Bowfell, Skiddaw)?

    Norwich is a fine city

The local council say so. It is, or was, written on all the road signs entering the city.

    And I agree with them

We went to the Jurassic Coast in Dorset a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful walks away from the crowds at Kimmeridge, along the SW Coast Path and inland towards Corfe Castle. Followed up with a pint or two of the local cider in village pub gardens tracing our routes in the distance. Idyllic.

As for Norfolk, I do need to go there one day (and not just for Narrrrch away). Even The Stranglers sang a rather good song about it:

I should point out that the north of Leicestershire is of course the finest place in the country.

    Isn't that Nottinghamshire? ;)

It is within spitting distance yes, you’ll know you’re there when you see the Su Pollard statue or a flat roof pub with a bunch of ex miners huddled outside whingeing.

  10. Well it's only a 20 min drive from Cley to Wells and you could spend all day walking and chilling out in an around Holkham pines!

That post was undoubtedly too 'long-winded' though. A fault of mine. And the bird hides and picnic bench (just bench rather than a picnic one) are actually west of Lady Anne's drive. Not between there and Wells.

Of course, if you want to do the Norfolk Coast Walk then why not continue all the way down Peddar's Way towards Thetford? A small family might object though?

Agree on Norwich. Pub for every day of the year? Says it all really. Including the Murderers', the Plasterers' and the Wild Man. Did three years at the UEA.

Holt has been mentioned favourably too. Lovely little town. Great chippy.

  11. Having been to all of those alternatives I'd still rate North Norfolk above them all.

Yes, I forgot that I went to Norwich on two other occasions, for open days at UEA. Didn't see much of the city proper but second time round it snowed which was quite pretty.

There's also a nice downward view en route to Carrow Road, though I saw that going towards the home side so most of us have probably missed it.

I honestly can't remember now - I was much younger. All I remember is some of the stunningly beautiful scenery.

Only place I've seen anything comparable is northern Wisconsin around the Native American reservations, which is similarly stunning.

  14. Runs Norfolk very close. Weymouth is a cracking seaside town.

I’ve not met everyone in Watford yet, but when I have I’ll make sure that North Norfolk is the first place I go.
