He still visits England, and has a flat in St Albans. The problem we have is Celta Vigo I’m told are also heavy on him, a club he was at previously — but his preference is to move to England and work here due to the time and ambition he has. I have no desire to work for Watford anymore; and have friends who work for the club in various capacities, so any information I do get, instead of keeping it private like last time, I’ll just post it on here. But regarding DM, if we want him, he’ll come here, but he’s not unanimously the favourite is the vibe I’m getting. Also, despite holding interviews previously, they won’t be doing it this time, they’ll just go after who they want; but the idea is to appoint a Spanish coach, or Spanish speaking coach

Yet they recently said one of the issues with Ivic was that they couldn’t interview him face to face due to Covid. They really do make it up as they go along.

Pretty sure Prodl was on about double that after his extension. I have no idea why they do it. An irrational fear of losing something for nothing? A lack of confidence in themselves to source anything other than Bayat dross? Some of the extensions are beyond comprehension - extending Kabasele last season until 2024 when he was 29? Extending Sema at age of 27 until 2025 when he still had 2 years to run when they knew he can’t contribute in the premier league? Utterly mindless. Cleverly. Cathcart. Britos. The list goes on.

Ian Holloway can speak Spanish. It's all falling into place.

Didn’t we give sicknote Jaanmat a two year one then tore it up when he got long term injured as well?

My wild guess is Pozzo approaches it like spread betting, stick them all on long contracts and you’ll get enough fees for some of them to cover the wages. The problem is he doesn’t and never has got fees for any of them.

Haha Janmaat was best one - can’t believe I forgot! Give long term injured player an extension on a relegation fight and then when you get relegated pay him off. Genius stuff

Some of these (Kaba, Sema) I imagine would have been to insert relegation clauses or lower salaries, with promotion bonuses but on a longer term to soften the blow.

Sema was made one of the highest earners at the club if I remember correctly.

Where’d you see that? Just seems unlikely to me given he joined from the Swedish league. Quadrupling his pay at Ostersunds would probably have still had him as one of our lowest paid first team players.

Odd reasoning given we then signed Rainieri on a 3yr deal…

What? That he was adamant that he wanted a year unattached from any club to study? Plenty of coaches do that. Had nothing to do with what was on offer at the time.

You’re giving them too much credit. They’ve been busy doing this since way before Duxbury even knew that relegation clauses existed.

Because he would have to work with the same useless squad, the majority of whom are playing to avoid injury and don't give a damn about the club. Three separate head coaches have failed to get this lot performing - why do you think a fourth would make any difference?

A new head coach in the summer whilst getting rid of a lot of the squad is a good time to do it. The outcome of this season isn't changing regardless of who is in the dugout.

Whoever the new manager is they need to be given time, and the owners need to keep their bottle and not press the red button when we have a bad run.

When I met GT on the Circle Line ( a long or circular tale!) he said the board didn't interview the Bald Italian ( not Bepe). They were all "star struck" and appointed him without speaking to anyone else.
    That went well didn't it?

I wonder if Martinez has been simply "watching" over recent months so that when he comes in he'll know exactly which players need to go and who he wants to keep.? GP surely wouldn't have courted him so closely if he was going to join anyone else.
    Sound thinking by Martinez really.

So instead of Udinese players I suppose we'll be seeing a couple of Granada players joining this summer.?

It could be anyone , I wouldn't put it past them getting Harry Redknapp in! I'm completely lost with the vision of the club.

If I was the incoming manager I wouldn't want to be involved officially yet, but I'd be watching every game in detail.

It is quite clear to see the members of the squad who don't care and are angling for a move. The first thing any new manager needs to do is bring some unity to the squad and the club as a whole. We have lost an element of leadership since Deeney left and they are playing like a squad of individuals - that is the first thing that needs addressing.

There have to be question marks over Redknapp’s age. He’s only 75 and for the last appointment we went for someone three years older than the previous incumbent.

The Pozzos no longer own Granada. I’m sure they have a relationship with the new owners though and it may be possible that if Martinez comes in he brings a couple with him, particularly if his old charges go down.

Ok, so Martinez Penas (fnarr Penas) is on the rota for pre-season and the opening campaign. Who is going to take charge from the November slump onwards through to the early spring?

I agree - if appointed in June you should give them at least to when the clocks go back, which next season must be around a third of the matches completed, what with the World Cup an all.

Don't care who it is as long as we can start a get them out thread and they're gone within 10 weeks.

Without wholesale changes to the club structure, nothing will help.

You make a good point.... Deeney before he ballooned was key to the squad and was a clear leader as well as just capt. We've had nobody since which is part of our problem, would be nice to bring in a CM / leader / talisman type in June as a starter.. Is Nielsen still playing...?
