Wouldn't be difficult to replace some of the crap we have in all honesty.

 

So we instead destabilise 5 clubs rather than one ? Leave 4 clubs knowing their manager wanted to talk to us and would have joined us had we offered the role ? Before any clubs "asks for permission" to talk to another's manager, they will have already had conversations to check that their manager was interested, behind their employers back.

 

We've probably asked if he would be interested and I presume he said yes. We then asked FGR for permission to speak to him. It seems a sensible way of doing it as not much point asking for permission if the manager isn't interested. If you think we are the only club that does it that way then I'm 99% certain you are wrong.
I know a lot of people want to beat us up currently but this really isn't a big issue

I think FGR have as much to get angry with us as we were with Everton a few seasons ago.

Maybe in our small defence, we are so unused to hiring people from other clubs, we’ve simply forgotten the accepted protocol.

 

But why should it destablise them? Admittedly it's a little outdated and probably the football equivalent of asking a man for his daughter's hand in marriage, but it doesn't do any harm with for your reputation. And it means the FGR chairman can get his ducks in a row and not end up looking like a plonker on social media.

 

As someone said earlier, I'm not sure they're that similar. There's a world of difference between approaching someone in the(ir) close season, well before pre-season, and doing it less than 2 months into the season after the coach in question was available 4 months earlier if they'd have planned properly.

So you acknowledge that he could just be trying to save face, yet you can't bring yourself to consider that he could just be lying and/or exaggerating in order to achieve that.

A bit odd tbh.

And we'd be an easy target for such accusations whether they were warranted or not in this case.

 

It actually looks like an exact copy of Elon Musk's recent hair-do. But Musk is still a decade younger, and looks younger than his age, unlike this bloke.

But whatever, clearly FGR's owner is a saint and not bitter at all, and we should believe everything he says. In fact, I'd urge the likes of @NathWFC @hornetboy1 and @wfcmoog to just go and support Forest Green Rovers instead if they want a "virtuous" club and think this guy is the oracle. I'm sure everyone will be happier as a result.

 

Their season was over, his contract was up this summer (happy to be proved wrong but that's what I read). I see no issue in talking to him without asking their permission.

It's not the same as the Everton/slither debacle.

I didn't see mention of an official approach by Real Madrid when Rudiger agreed to join them a few weeks ago.

Even Jim Bonsor paid a transfer fee when he took Ken Furphy from Workington as player/manager. Seem to recall though that population of Lincoln were very upset with us when Graham Taylor was persuaded to leave Lincoln City FC.

At least this time the chap is going up a division (presumably with no offers he would have been happy to steer FGR through their League 1 season).

If the appointment works out then this will all be forgotten. If it turns out sour like Silva and Everton, no doubt it will resurface as another stick to beat the club with.

Heyho, no nothing about him or can say he has the components to be more successful than say Leam Richardson.

Let’s hope he can emulate the success of Furphy and Graham Taylor and get the club promoted to a higher level.

 

and 4 other owners/clubs potentially would know that their manager was considering leaving to join us ? Unless we only ever wanted to talk to one guy....which is unlikely.

Fair point, though most of that U20s group from a couple of years ago will probably already be well known and possibly established elsewhere already.

And of the U16s from 2020/21 it might still be a year or two before any are ready to play for a Championship team aiming for promotion.

So I have read that he has consistently played a 3-4-1-2 system at FGR. So will be able to adapt to Ginos 4-3-3 system?

Easier to break a coach than to break up a carefully assembled squad.

 

Needless to say, he’ll be gone by next summer, promoted or not.

Exactly.

I don't think it was actually confirmed whether Edwards only had a 1 year deal at FGR but some of their fans had thought before it might be the case and think this corroborates that.

 

I've tried to have such a discussion in the other thread about him becoming manager but it seems futile.
