I see Uncle Ron didn't get to say anything. I wonder why?

Cutting questions like “who would Tommie Hoban like to go to a party with”.

To be fair if only a couple of players then just a bit of fun I suppose.

Used to like him but Ucko starting to come across as a bit of a tool on Twitter these days.

I listened to it. Was a little dull/dry but I think the club was making a genuine effort to connect with fans and trigger excitement about the upcoming season and to be fair it doesn’t really seem like an appropriate context to let Uncle Ron loose and hold the club’s feet to the fire by, you know, asking Tommie Hoban or Mattie Pollock whether Bayat has exclusivity. I don’t think that would be a useful interaction for anyone. The fact is that asking junior players questions can only yield certain types of content and it’s one that lots of fans (myself included) find fairly dull, particularly at this stage of the season.

I think the club was trying out a new medium for the first time and hopefully they bring some big hitters (Edwards, Giaretta, Duxbury) on and subject them to a broad range of user questions in the near future.

Which I have zero problem with.

But maybe this is one platform where they could keep the WD18 boys, other social channels separate from? At least in the infancy? Getting one of them to host it and and ‘randomly selected’ questions from the others just doesn’t sound good to me.

These people all have their own means to host things - it’s literally what they do. So I’m lost as to why the club has needed to get them to take over this one too.

(Uncle Ron clearly needs to take a breather. The guy is never going to get the answers he wants the way he carries on. But you kinda have to admire the perseverance he’s putting in! He’s determined if nothing else! Like that Anti-Brexit guy at Westminster!)

I knew nothing about it at all. Why was Tommie Hoban on it?

The fan committee? Going by the names/job titles of the names given to me as the clubs representatives on the next one - probably not.

(And it was provisionally pencilled in for mid-June and still hasn’t happened yet)

Update from the Watford Supporters Trust – 18 October 2022

Last Thursday, Steve Temple, Chair of the Watford Supporters Trust, met with Scott Duxbury, Richard Walker and Paul O’Brien from Watford FC. The discussion focussed on raising challenging but productive questions and conveying concerns about Watford’s financial sustainability, unclear governance and decision-making structure at the Board, ownership and senior executive levels, and lack of engagement with supporters, amongst other topics. This was based on feedback gathered over the past two weeks from our members, Watford fan organisations and numerous individuals.

Key points from the meeting include:

    - Gino Pozzo and Scott have a close working relationship and have authority over the direction and strategy of the club. Scott asserted that Gino remains fully committed to taking the club forward and bringing back the success of previous seasons.

    - Scott stated he is confident with the financial position of the club. The Supporters Trust will hold a session with the Finance Director to review financial issues in depth, including current levels of debt and recent transactions.

    - We asked questions about the club’s head coach and player recruitment strategies, its external relationships, and issues of accountability amongst players. These topics require a more detailed discussion about the club’s approach and its impact.

    - The club understood the need to improve communication with supporters and said it fully recognises fans’ frustrations. Disappointingly, we believe it is unlikely that Gino will answer fans’ questions directly, but we will work with the club to address this gap.

    - The club acknowledged that the attempt to create a Supporters Committee was of limited value and a better structure to hear from fans is needed. The club will look at ways to ensure the wider fan base’s views are represented.

We greatly appreciate the club’s willingness to hold this initial discussion. There are additional areas that must be addressed, so we look forward to future meetings.

During the meeting, Scott reinforced that actions must speak louder than words. We fully agree. The Supporters Trust will continue to push for changes that ensure Watford is a sustainable, stable, transparent and successful club. We welcome further questions and input from Watford supporters.

I could have genuinely given those bullet points and empty words. And I wasn’t even in the same country, let alone the same meeting room.

The club are back to the ‘fingers-in-ears’ mentality’.

surely that’s all a wind up…what the hell is a Supporter Engagement Award and do you win that by alienating 90% of your fan base

Be like when Millwall won Family club of the year ..

What an odd list really .

Do Doncaster and *Blackpool stand out as good supporter engagement clubs and a token women’s team ?

*Wasnt so long ago fans were boycotting games due to the owners for example.

Doncaster probably having their worse period as a club for a while .

Surely fan run clubs would be the best at this ?

The equivalent of Truss and Kwarteng reassuring us about the state of the UK economy last week and saying 'We get it' several times, without the chance of any change or either of them losing their jobs.

I’m just not really sure what the point is?

They asked about the recruitment, head coaches and external relationships (Mogi Bayat) and were clearly fobbed off with ‘let’s chat again down the line’.

They asked about finances and were fobbed off with ‘let’s chat again down the line’.

They implored the owner to speak with fans - and we’re told it’s not happening.

Those are the key points that all fans want addressing urgently and they are the ones the club clearly have no interest in answering. So it’s more deflection with assurances of answers at a non-defined time down the line. We have had this before. Time and again. It’s not happening.

I couldn’t care less about them admitting the Fan Committee was a mess. That’s been obvious for a long time.

Looks to me like the WST have bought more bluster.

Time to force a change in attitude.

And to top it off FTRE stooge then says all fans must direct their concerns to the trust, heaven forbid they be negative on Twitter.

A better structure to hear from fans is needed..... surely with every fan having their say on various social media platforms the club hears from fans constantly? The fact is it chooses not to listen or responds in a totally patronising way. Their PR is awful. Take Fuxbury's statement about sticking with Rob Edwards 'come hell or high water'. That was always going to come back and bite him on the ar5e sooner or later. A decent PR would never have let that get out. Oafish Richard Walker must take a lot of responsibility for the current schism between the club and fans
