New Supporters Committee

I see from the club's official site that there is a new supporters committee that has been created by the club, but this forum does not at first sight appear to be on it although several other supporters groups appear to be so.

Have WFC Forums been invited to join?

Deserves it's own thread really.

Would be great to have someone here on there. We could have a poll on the forum to raise topics. Suggestions would be:

• Muscle imbalance
• Less Vs fewer
• Henryhooter special: what is the club's stance on Biden being a paedo warmongerer?
• Most handsome player

I can’t quite decide if those who attended are naive or just stupid to think it was likely to receive any sort of positive reaction.

 

I've just caught up on this having avoided any watford related social media for a few weeks. . . And in the words of that inbetweeners meme "I dunno it seems a bit dodgy mate"
Anyone else getting a real Pravda vibe? Seeing the FTRE, WD18 and the various "club supported" supporter groups in the inner circle doesn't suprise me as I've long felt the club has got them by the short and curlys (something I also feel about the 1881). However I'm surprised to see the DNSYE guys on there as from listening to their POD they've always seemed the most "true fan" view (so hope they can carry this through/represent)

 

This has been alluded to several times in the discussion of the club's operations over the past week or so, yes - think it was IRB who first coined it, maybe?

 

That Dougie Brimson ex-hooligan guy is/was somehow associated with DNSYE’s podcast I believe. And he’s been very scathing of this committee idea so who knows.

A guy who hosts DNSYE commented on Twitter earlier and admitted the release was badly done and doesn’t look good - but ultimately thinks it’s a good thing. Ucko has said a number of times since that he feels the club have thrown them
‘under the bus’….so I ask, why still take part? Surely the club has shown they can’t be trusted in this matter!

I must admit, I get a sense from many of those involved that they won’t retract their role in it because it gives them a sense of being ‘employed’ by the club. And in that sense, if that’s always been the aim for some of them (genuinely believe Jacob Culshaw and Ucko are angling for club employment), then I understand why they want a foot in the door.

Because if I’m honest, given how it’s been handled, it would be better for the fanbase if all these groups (especially the social media channels/podcasts) pulled out citing concerns about the composition and parameters. That would really make the club think maybe and would actually achieve quicker results.

 

Ah apologies if it has already! Well I can assure mine was from a place of just hearing about a select committee but good to know I'm not alone!

 

My brain now tells me it may well have been Steve Leo Beleck who was the coiner, also, for reasons of credit.

 

Reading tweet history I suspect Mr Ucko was delighted to be invited to the special committee and only changed tack when he got such poor feedback on social media.

Shifted from “honoured to be part of this group” to “don’t be angry with me I’ve worked damn hard to get into this position” to “I’ve been thrown under the bus” all within 48 hours.

I don’t agree with the personal abuse he has been getting though which is way over the top, but he doesn’t help himself on Twitter, not just about this but in general.

 

I don't know much about designer brands myself.

Agree with most of what’s been said in this thread. I’d imagine most of those involved were either unable to see beyond the opportunity to snag some social media clout for their handful of followers, or are already fully paid up members of the inner circle.

The latter already don’t care what people think of them, because they’re suckling at the Pozzbury t(i)t while the former were blinded to the obviously shocking optics by their excitement at receiving opportunity to join the t(i)t suckling.

Either way, they’re all pricks. Trying to row it back and blame the club for throwing them under bus completely ignores the fact they themselves walked out into the middle of the road, and then proceeded to lay down.

 

This is exactly why I was surprised (side note I really enjoyed their chat with Dougie) . . I too think it can be good but do feel you have to be very commited to your own views and be prepared to be removed from the inner sanctum of the club if those views don't fit, so will be watching/listening very closely to see how it progresses for them (I've given up on all hope with FTRE since their interview with SD in the summer - and recently feels that Adam Leventhal has drifted toward the COG category)

I just saw the post from the WD18 lad, which would carry more weight if he didnt change his views every 5 minutes! But certainly agree with you . . If you genuinely felt aggrieved or put in an untenable position surely you would walk away?!

 

Yes, we now have a 'committee' of fans, (I can't believe I've written that word, haha!) designed to draw in groups who the club thinks are influential and so buy time and head off critiscm. Ever heard the saying "Keep your enemies close to you?" It's all being carefully crafted, only some information will be allowed into the public domain presumably because they feel us ordinary fans won't understand. Well, this fan smells a rat. When things are dressed up and hidden away so no-one understands what is happening, it's time to worry. These so-called fan groups need to stand up and be counted, not wishy, washy, fluffy stuff like FTRE this week, talk about sit on the fence! My message to those groups is don't you be fooled, you are being used, you will do more to help Watford FC long-term by refusing to take part in this charade and instead ask questions and voice your concerns openly in the public domain.

 

Can someone give a bit of a summary of these groups, pods and so on. I have no idea who most of them are, and I'm arguing with them on Twitter without any clue what they do outside of bend over for Pozberry.

It starts at the top and works it way down. Football clubs are like businesses and like businesses the decisions and culture around the club are set right from the top.

 

Not to mention the fact that it's a matter of public record that all decision-making at Watford FC ultimately rests solely with Gino himself, even above Duxbury and Giaretta.

And yet somehow, despite that, he's still managed to create a popular perception (judging by those poll responses) that he's somehow detached from it, and Duxbury is solely to blame.

 

Sigh, that’s just embarrassing. No doubt if you pull him up on such an absolutely mental statement he’ll start talking about his mental health issues as well.

This committee really does have some dark undertones to it. I just can't see why they would create this now, in this way unless something bad is on the horizon and I don't just mean relegation. I've defended them in the past but creating a two tier system for supporters is awful.

The thing that winds me up most about this is members of the committee claiming they are going to articulate all the concerns other fans have in the meetings. But how is Ucko going to do that if they are not concerns he has?

 

This is a perfect description.

The club thinks it looks like it's engaging, but only succeeds in stroking the already huge egos of a chosen few, who then have an elevated status. They're not allowed to tell us anything so actually it ends up driving a bigger wedge between the club and fans.

Unfortunately that’s the whole point isn’t it. If you create a committee that is composed of boot lickers just happy to have been asked, you won’t have to face any tough questions. As I’ve said elsewhere it’s a totally disastrous idea, because they could have achieved the same result by holding the old style of fans forum but by being selective with the questions. Instead they’ve gone with something that highlights exactly how mad and tyrannical they’ve got.

 

Not that I support Duxbury one iota, but it is quite an impressive feat by Pozzo that a Duxbury out poll gets 90%, whereas the majority want Pozzo to stay. Same thing happened to Giraldi I suppose. A brilliant deflection of accountability by the owner.

 

Good to know that I fall into the 2nd tier of watford fans because I don't run a podcast.

This is just going to give those who do further inflation to their already huge egos. I can see them getting hassled at games by supporters.

This only serves to cause division though an agitated fanbase.
