He should never have been bought for any other purpose. But I have no problem with him being a bench option. This is why he’s better than Bayo, who is unlikely to make an impact.
No maybe doesn’t think he works as hard as Bayo but then we need more than just someone who runs around a lot .
On the subject of Raj as an impact sub, yesterday was the 4th time he’s come off the bench to score. He also did so in the home match with Millwall last season. Yesterday was the 3rd goal he’s scored for us after the 90th minute.
TC in his post-match interview praised Rajovic's work-rate and attitude in training though in his trying to demonstrate that he deserves more minutes.
From this freeze frame of his goal, I hadn't really noticed in real time that he had to leap as much. Not trying to make out it was a really difficult chance as I'm sure we'd have all slaughtered him had he missed, but maybe the header wasn't quite as straight forward as I first thought. As others have stated - the credit mostly goes to his anticipation to get himself in the right place. He does seem to have a knack for doing that.
He is very limited , but has room for improvement, with his all round play but as a "fox in the box" there is very little he can be taught .
I actually think it’s a really good goal considering he had to step back to stay onside as the defence stepped up. Great anticipation
Yep, perfectly done and shows how important it is to put players into situations where they can use their strengths. There’s no doubt Rajovic has some excellent fox-in-the-box abilities. Credit also to TDB. Quick thinking to get into a shooting position and while he didn’t get fully round his marker to get a clean shot away he created _something_ at a time where I was expecting us to crumble completely.
Towards the end of last season after TC took over, you could see some improvement to his overall play, his touch is better, he's got a slight frame so he's not going to outmuscle defenders. His main attribute is being in the right place at the right time, we don't have a superstar on our hands by any means, but as long as he pops up with winners throughout the season then that's fine by me. We will get used to having him coming off the bench a lot this season, though it wouldn't surprise me if he starts v MK Dons.
Admittedly a great finish. It must of been even more difficult after taking a deflection with a heavy spin on the ball. But he timed and executed it very well. Credit where it's due.
I think it was a tougher finish than some have assumed. He'd started his run for a possible rebound off the keeper, had to check & readjust after the block and then had to head a looping, spinning ball into about the only section of the goal that the (crap) keeper wouldn't have got to. I had to look twice to convince myself it was in the net, and then half expected it to be offside.
He does get a lot of stick off our fans. I criticise him here (sometimes maybe harshly) but jeering his every touch is a bit much from some inside the stadium. And unlike Gray, he’s done nothing to suggest he’s anything other than a decent guy who wants to improve and succeed at this club. I hope he has a smashing season and shuts a few up - me on my keyboard included.
TDB should have been looking for Rajovic anyway, giving him credit for a shot that was never going to get beyond the defenders shins feels generous. His decision making is poor but this time a deflection gave us some luck.
Two more fantastic strikers’ goals, got across his man well for the first, a great instinctive effort (if a little fortuitous to see it go in), and the second was class, used his strength well to nick in there with another great instinctive finish. If Jebbison is to be the main man, I’d definitely rather Rajovic than Bayo to be backup
I thought he did well last night. He'll probably feel he should have had a hattrick as while it drew an good save he really didn't direct that finish from the low cross brilliantly. But his 1st goal was lovely skill and the finish for the 2nd was trickier than he made it look too, especially while pinning the defender.
It's going to be a dilemma isn't it, who makes way for Jebbison. Bayo works so hard, scored a cracker on saturday and nearly another, Raj who is absolutely clinical in front of goal, Doumbia who is young but has really impressed as a bench option, Baah who is perhaps more of a wideman. Who do we cast off into the wilderness or sell/loan out ???
It’s not saying very much, but Rajovic is now out clear as our leading goal scorer in the squad. He has 14 Watford goals, ahead of Bayo and Sema who both have 12. Then Kayembe with 8. Yeah, small margins I know!
It's a difficult one regarding the Bayo\Rajovic conundrum of who to keep if Jebbison is the CF. Neither of them are Championship level however should we need a goal late on in a game then Rajovic is the cavalry whereas if we are looking to relieve pressure and get some possession high up the pitch then Bayo is the better bet although , again, not a brilliant option to have .
Yes he is not mobile and does not make assists But 3 goals in 191 mins played speaks for itself Give him a chance - he has clearly worked and improved over the summer
Definitely seeing an improvement with his all round play. Could of possibly had an assist too with the Ince effort. Squad player 100% but in all honesty don't want him starting still. Seems a decent fella who is putting the team first. What's not to like about that.
Didn’t get on yesterday which has disappointed a few when we needed a goal but is Tom really a fan ? Feel he prefers Bayo’s all round game.
We could have brought on Haaland yesterday and it wouldn't have made a difference in that second half. We weren't getting the basics as a team right - things like ball retention, pass and move, smart off the ball running etc. And the midfield was not effective. Without service it doesn't matter who you have up top.
I thought it was extremely harsh on Rajovic yesterday. The fact is, he score goals often, Bayo does not. Yesterday was absolute Rajovic territory where we needed a goal out of nowhere. Instead we bring on Jebbison who’s been here 5 minutes. I hope he comes good for us, but yesterday was a terrible debut. I’m happy with the results, but I’m not a fan of the starting 11, still think we have 2-3 passengers that don’t warrant a starting place. Hopefully the international break is enough time for Tom to break in some new blood and we go again
I’m not sure I get the sentiment, when you need a goal out of nothing you need a player who can create something out of nothing. Raj doesn’t do that, he gets tap ins and rebounds, if you’re not getting the ball into the 6 yard box then he’s not going to do anything for you.
He’s clearly not a fan, he’s played 200 minutes in total in the league since Clev arrived, and the only game he started was Boro on the final day. Fully understand that when it’s a straight choice between him and Bayo, that he’s the bigger goal threat, but it wasn’t, it was a choice between Bayo, Rajovic and Jebbison
Made his debut off the bench for Brondby as a late sub after they were already 2-0 up. Are they just easing him in I wonder, or is it a sign that he's not going to get any more football over there than he was getting here?
