Hopefully we'll soon be able to cite Tom Cleverley as an example of someone who has recovered from injury.

What happened on Saturday - did somebody rush from the bench to point out Cleverley was injured or did he have to do that himself!?

Is there a regular status update on our injuries

It really does seem a bit **** how many we have lost.

Chalobah was supposed to be back before Christmas
Hughes was supposed to be almost back 3 or 4 weeks ago
    Femenia almost made it back

They managed to rehabilitate Prodl after 3 months but he seems useless now

I was told by someone who works at the club that Chalobah broke his Knee Cap. I've no idea how long that'd usually take.

It appears that actually we don't ! Seb has been kidnapped by aliens and replaced by something still figuring out how to play football. If same thing happens to other players then it's aliens I tell you!

I believe when NC was injured Silva said he hoped to have him for the Christmas fixtures.
I asked my physio if this would be possible with,as Forza Watford says 'a broken kneecap'.
He said it was possible but it would leave no room from a setback.
Today's rumour on the Team Bus thread rather suggests that he has had one, possibly more, ,setbacks unfortunately.

We are unlucky with injuries but not that unlucky that Kaboul, Cathcart, Success, Hughes, Femenia and Chalobah have all had setbacks this season whether they made it back onto the pitch or not. It's farcical, something is very wrong with the medical department.

Unlucky is a short term thing. That it's been replicated and exacerbated cannot be put down to luck.

That's what gets me about the situation. With millions of pounds at stake, it seems like Gino is fiddling whilst Rome burns.

Medical team strike again. Will Hughes is going to be out for at least another month according o the WO.

A minor hamstring was the first diagnosis. What a joke.

What a load of tosh all of you. Ever since I can remember there have been players who got injured and never were the same or never returned. The modern game is faster, impacts bigger, players need to be 100% fit to return and not 95.

It's just bad luck unless any of you have the slightest evidence (other than our bad luck) that our medics and facilities are below par.

What is a shame is that one player who appeared to rehab well it seems - Zarate - isn't one we can use. But maybe that's because he is not as good as he was before the injury.

How anyone gets over injuries to return to full use is not an exact science.

It seems to me that our medical team must be using the wrong treatment for injuries, as it seems that our players seem to take far longer than players from other teams to recover from similar injuries

  19. Moose

    Moose First Team Captain

I presume you have carried out an extensive comparative analysis to back this up?

How bad is it? Did they try to treat Chalobah’s knee cap with haemorrhoid cream or something?

  20. The Voice of Reason

The Voice of Reason First Team Captain

It is mainly hamstring injuries I am referrering to, our players seem to be out for ages with hamstring problems, whereas with other teams they seem to be short term injuries!

Janmaat, who seemed broke beyond repair. Deeney pre season, Pereyra seems ok now after whichever game he went off in. Prodl. Okaka had something I think. Others, used a lot, have stayed fit.

Holebas mental state appears resistant to treatment though by the look of his leisurewear collection.

Hughes is a bit of a crock. Great player, but there was a reason we got him so cheaply.

  23. Meh!

    Meh! Pre-Dictator

I wonder if perhaps our medical teams are more cautious than others so hold players back longer. They may be 90% but where other teams might let them play again, ours says wait til 95-100%.

    I don't know. Just a thought.

I have a little medical knowledge and I diagnose an outbreak of that seasonal affliction Transferwindus Nervosa. This usually clears up after February though sufferers may then succumb to a compulsion to go on Twitter and demand a sacking, a condition known as Pozzossortitoutus.

This true, but the fact that NOBODY gets back to full fitness within the expected time indicates either that there is a curse on Watford (I blame Mr IBB), that we are extraordinarily unlucky or that our medical and fitness people are incompetent. Three possibilities in ascending order of likelihood.

Really? Since breaking into the Derby team, he made 38, 48, 48, 8, 42 appearances a season. He had one serious knee injury that put him out of almost the whole of the 2015/16 season but for the other four seasons he's averaged 44 appearances per season. Hardly a crock.

56 in two and a half years since his injury. He is going to have some vulnerabilities.

But you presume mismanagement by the medical team?

Benefit of the doubt/devil's advocate and all that. You are of course completely right, in that none of us have any concrete evidence that there is anything wrong with the medical department, but we do seem to have a poor record regarding return to play dates. This of course could be down to bad luck, coincidence etc, but it is justifiable to ask questions about what may be leading to this ongoing "bad luck".

It's not two and a half years since his return from injury and he played 48 out of a possible 59 games for Derby over a 13 month period after his return. It seems bizarre to suggest that he was "a bit of a crock" when we signed him when he'd just played 48 games in little over a year (50 if you include the u21 finals).

Just because someone has had one serious injury in their career, it doesn't make them a crock. Doucoure has had two serious knee injuries so by your logic he must be even more of a crock!

I don't presume any mismanagement by the medical team in relation to Hughes, I don't know what's gone on.

Moose is of course right. We don't know how the medical team works or is set up. But questions do need to be asked.

Fair enough, I shouldn’t assume either. Problems then and now may be wholly unrelated.

It does seem sometimes as if players struggle with lots of injuries or they are lucky enough not to. We certainly wouldn’t want to recruit anyone doubtful right now, though sadly that hasn’t prevented the long term injuries to hitherto seemingly robust Chalobah and Pereyra.

It says something about our medical team that I am hoping we sign a new medical team more than any new players.

Of course we don't know anything about how our medical team works so maybe fans shouldn't be making sweeping comments with no basis of fact.

BUT - our manager, whether you are a fan of him or not, has questioned why so many players are out with no timeframe of returning. And he will have some knowledge of the situation so I would say that does allow fans to ask questions and assume, even if incorrectly, that something isn't quite right.
