Supposedly we’re trying to get Matheus Pereira in on loan. Don’t think WBA will be too keen but maybe we can work something out. Certainly a link to set the pulses racing, he’s superb. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....committed-playing-West-Brom-Championship.html
Definitely couldn’t afford to buy him but a loan with option/obligation could be great. May be wrong (as I don’t watch much of the over-hyped, prima donna PL when we’re not there) but didn’t he play most of last season as a winger? Hopefully he does join and can be accommodated as the most advanced of our midfield three.
Very good player doubt they will be interested in a loan deal though, unless we have an obligation to buy him for 25 million next season. Apparently he has as good as told West Brom that he don't want to play for them in The Championship.
LOL. £25m? How about you give him to us on loan and we'll pay you £10m if we stay up. Which we definitely won't.
Massive offer from a Saudi club or come to Watford on loan? Tough decision when he's released a statement that pretty much says he wants the money to set him and family up for life!
We are interested in him in the same way I am interested in Emma Watson. We would probably struggle to put together £2.50 never mind £25m A loan with an obligation if we stay up would be sensible, but I am not sure WBA would agree to it.
The local paper up here in the West Mids seems to suggest that they would be open to a loan deal as long as their was an obligation to buy and that obligation would need to be 25 million. The new manager would prefer him gone as he don't want to be there. 25 mill is probably good value for a 25 year old who is very good and has Premier League experience. However, I would be shocked if we signed him although I would be buzzing with it if we did.
To be fair West Brom may feel that the market is depressed and that £15m or whatever is available in cash this summer represents a fraction of Pereira’s actual value. So we offer £5m loan fee + £20m option to buy next summer/obligation if we stay up and Pereira plays minutes, West Brom could also cancel the option if they get promoted and even if we get relegated he can appreciate in value through his performances and the recovery in the transfer market. Big wages off the wage bill too. I’d be surprised if they go for it but you can understand how/why it might make sense.
Traditionally we need to sign a relegated West Brom player, hype him up relentlessly, moan about him being **** for us and then laugh at the club who signs him only for him to lead them to Europe. He seems perfect for the role.
No way we would do anything with an 'obligation to buy' factored in. Not when relegation is a stark reality. I also would think WBA will want a hefty loan fee which I would say Gino has zero interest in.
Get rid of Deeney, Gray, Success, Hughes and Chalobah off the wage bill and we're guaranteed on getting him in.
I think clearly were after a clear upgrade for the left wing: Pereira, Danjuma, Lookman all linked now. All 3 of them would be most welcome additions even if/though were well stocked for now with Cucho, Dennis, Pedro and Sema (along with Baah) able to play out there.
Obviously any obligation to buy would have to be in the event we stay up, and as LeedsOrn said there would ideally be a clause related to his performances/involvement during the season.
Pereira is an AM, or prefers the right if he plays wide - given that he's a left-footed playmaker. AM is more where we need an upgrade now anyway, relative to the wide spots, with none of Zinc, Gosling or Clevs likely to be convincing in the PL.
Exactly, there's quite a few caveats that would lead him to being back at WBA next summer when I imagine they want rid this summer and to move on. If we put together an offer such as the above, I don't really see that being an offer towards the top of their pile and they'd probably rather just sell elsewhere for a reduced fee this summer. (A reduced fee we seemingly still couldn't afford)
You just make the obligation to buy contingent on survival. Given that the player doesn't want to play in the Championship, any buy would be dead if we got relegated anyway so it's not like WBA would lose much.
See above. WBA would then be left next summer with a player who has burnt his bridges there, with another year down on his deal. Surely they'd rather just sell for less this summer to get rid of him. Seems to me like he will end up somewhere in the Middle East. And it would have to be based on more than just survival. As he could be awful/injured/uninterested for a year and we could still stay up - and then we are into a deal for X millions that we have no interest in. I just doubt we would sign him with any obligation whatsoever.
Not this again ffs. I am familiar with Pereira. He can play on either flank or as a number 10. Our current system doesn’t really employ a number 10 and he won’t be replacing our best player in Sarr. Yes he only played four times on the left per whoscored but he scored 3 goals and 2 assists in those appearances. I’d imagine that if he were to come in he’d play predominantly on the left, maybe moving into the hole against some weaker sides so that we can add an extra winger or when chasing the game. Certainly his versatility is part of his value but I would be surprised if we switch to more of a 4-2-3-1 given that often the number 10 is a free rider defensively and we can’t really afford that against most sides in the league. Edit: just to add: he’s played 36 games LW and 50 games AM in his career. Pretty similar amounts. So, given the way we play (without a number 10) and the nature of our squad along with the other players linked such as Lookman it isn’t so obvious that he’d be playing as a 10 as you suggest and certainly not obvious enough that you should have seen the need to correct me in such a pedantic way.
Maybe they’re betting on the transfer market recovering. This isn’t a great environment to have to sell your best player in.
I bet he'd play instead of Gosling or Zinc, who basically are 10s/the most advanced central midfielders in our system.
Was going off of this: https://twitter.com/FootballlForAll/status/1422932312220635140?s=19 Although I have subsequently seen that Al-Hilal can't actually afford him.
That is some random aggregator retweeting a total ******** merchant. Al Hilal offering him crazy wages but are offering peanuts to WBA - they are miles apart in their valuation of him.
Better than the peanuts and peanuts offer we are probably putting together mind you. Even more so when Pereira would contractually lose 50% of his peanuts in a year too.
Would a loan with an unconditional obligation to buy not simply be an outright purchase, paying by installments. We don't have the kind of money to buy a highly rated Brazilian in his mid 20s. This must be a ruse.
Lol at us getting excited about this - was always just a smokescreen for signing an 80 year old from Parma.
