La Liga is probably the closest league to the PL in pace and competitiveness. Not that it means that much considering Gaspar basically didn't really play last season.
Someone tell me how Edwards was involved in the Gaspar deal. Bought because we could get him for free in exchange for Kiko and given a TWO YEAR deal. Now we find out he isn't even a suitable option for wing back or full back. Everyone at the club is delighted with our options on the right side of defence though! Pozzo is a football man is he? No, he's a f*cking sh!te businessman who thinks he knows how to run a football club. Hand over the recruitment to someone who knows what they're doing and concentrate on sorting out our shocking finances or f*ck off and get out of our club.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if his contract is terminated in the next few weeks. Quite obvious from the lads body language that he's massively uncomfortable with English football, and to be left out altogether today is alarming
Nothing against Gaspar, it's not his fault he was brought here despite being totally unsuitable. Would happily release him and let him find a club in Spain for January.
Can’t believe some people are still convinced Edwards wanted him and is happy with our full back options. Was clear as day from the first time Rob got asked about the transfer that he didn’t want him, but people would rather bury their heads in the sand.
He gave Gaspar the most backhanded compliments you could give when he was announced! He also gave Kamara praise for his performances at RWB, but I feel that is at least somewhat based in reality as his stats on paper don't look bad, and he is at least an actual wing-back
If we come to an agreement to release him and use the wages to bring in a suitable free agent, I won't shed any tears. That being said, we know how that will play out even if it did happen - an agreement to pay out Gaspar's contract in full and a video released of Rob in full proskynesis at the foot of Gino's throne beating his breast and wailing his undying gratitude for the opportunity to field Cathcart or Ngakia on the right.
So what do we think has happened here? Because on the face of it, there is no way a player of Gaspar's pedigree should be seen as an inferior option, at RB, than Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele. It's inexplicable. Is the hurly burly of the Championship really just too much for him? Homesick? Just hear for a paid gap year in London?
My tin foil explanation is that the Femenia and Gaspar transfers were far more tied up in each other than the club care to admit, and Gaspar never had any particular desire to move or play here. You've heard of 'quiet quitting'? This was 'quiet Holebasing'.
There's probably some financial exchange behind the scenes mitigating the cost of the Kiko transfer. Villareal have the better of the deal despite Kiko being second fiddle to Foyth who is out injured at present (but nearly moved to Barcelona). We yet again have ended up with another what appears to be an over the hill player. Players like the great JZ4 are a rarity. In the modern game you need FBs to be able to contribute in both halves of the pitch.
Yes, indeed, that kind of thing is what I'm conjecturing - that they were to all intents and purposes one transaction, and that there was far more compulsion on Gaspar than anyone (for obvious reasons) stated or reported.
Homesick would be my bet, coupled with his rabbit in the headlights performances. For Edwards to leave him out of the squad when we have no recognised right back shows whatever is happening is quite serious
Holebas for the vast majority of the time gave his all on the pitch for years, and is the best left back we've had in the Pozzo era - that comment is unfair. We could do with another Holebas-type player in the current side really.
I wonder if Giaretta was involved in making the Gaspar deal, and it was one of the reasons he was given the boot?!
You misunderstand - 'Holebasing' is not 'not giving your all', it's 'being abducted by Watford FC and registered as a player against your will'.
I'm aware of that, but Holebas clearly got over it quite quickly and after not too long was fully committed to the cause - and he ended up staying for 5 seasons. He hadn't downed tools after a few weeks in the manner you're suggesting Gaspar might have done.
My point is your "joke" didn't really work as Holebas and Gaspar's situations and attitudes aren't similar enough.
"Gaspar never had any particular desire to move or play here" That's clearly referring to his attitude. The distinction is, although Holebas also never had any particular desire to "move here", once he'd arrived he did actually show a desire to "play here" and knuckled down.
Just to smash you around the head with it, because apparently you cannot stop wailing about how much you need it, the Holebasing is by the club, and in the enacting of the move, not by Gaspar himself. This is a long-running thing but, as ever, it's alright to admit that you made a mistake, or removed even from that, just interpreted something in a way that on the balance of probabilities, it wasn't meant to be interpreted. You don't have to keep yelling your own singular interpretation of posts that others make, insisting that it's the only one that is possible.
That is not what your comment was suggesting. You stated: "You've heard of 'quiet quitting'? This was 'quiet Holebasing'." Considering that "quiet quitting" is something done by the employer, not the employee, the implication is that "quiet Holebasing" is an alternative form of a similar phenomenon. Don't blame me for the wording of your comment evidently being unclear, and/or your having attempted to draw a not entirely valid link or comparison.
Did a mod edit my comment?! Seriously. I'm sure I originally pointed out the fact that quiet quitting is done by the employee. My comment doesn't work otherwise considering I'm pointing out that because the term "quiet quitting" refers to the employee, it contradicts Chumlax's own claim that supposedly he intended the term "Holebasing" to refer to something done by the club (employer).
Mmm, they're all out to get you - it's part of the wider conspiracy to keep you down at all costs waged by those in fear of your omniscient genius. The mods are just the vanguard of this boundless crusade.
