I don’t think changing style with a pre-season is that hard. V hard to do it mid-season though.

Smith & Pardew could do a job.

I agree with the adage of ‘never go back’…but.

In the realistic scheme of things, knowing Martinez and Knutsen are probably, increasingly becoming a pipe-dream, I wouldn’t be mad at reappointing Javi. He definitely seemed to buy into Watford far more than most of those who have followed.

Agreed. Was thinking this earlier (clearly wasn’t the only one). Probably the only Pozzo era manager I’d re-hire (Jokanovic and Garcia would be ok perhaps but I think the former hasn’t ever really reached the heights he did with us and the latter blows hot and cold and hasn’t done too much of more since leaving Salzburg). Had a really good habit of beating bottom half sides when we were in the PL which I think would serve us well in the Championship. If he has this emotional tie he might be up for it too but he’d be leaving a lot of cash on the table presumably.

Interesting career after he left us. Joined Valencia who are more of a basket case than we are. The Everton of La Liga. Didn’t do well but not sure that says much. He then replaced Xavi at Al-Sadd and has won 11/12.

I’d really like to see us push the boat out and make a convincing offer to an exciting manager who could find a better project. Not just because that will increase the likelihood of success but because that would indicate actual “learning from mistakes” etc and also give us something to believe in. I’m sympathetic to the appointment of Hodgson simply because I understand that the club might not be able to appoint such a manager in this situation (even though, yes, Leeds did appoint Marsch) but we have to then do the right thing when we get the chance in the summer. For what it’s worth, I do think the club has generally made decent off-season appointments

The real question is, though, what are they cheering?

Probably - wasn’t he at a game earlier in the season?

Think Hodgson mentioned something about it in one of his early interviews as well, if I'm not making it up.

I said in February that I had a funny feeling Carlos Carvalhal would be our next manager and it now seems like he is leaving Braga at the end of his contract and is reportedly keen on taking a job in England. He’s decent enough but it wouldn’t be an exciting appointment by any means.

EDIT: Apologies: meant to put this in the other thread...
