He got a serious injury last season, he will still not be fit for some time. At least not championship fit.
Very promising cameo I thought. Strong and quick . Will obviously come up against better defensive players.
But he has, so you are a little bit wrong @wfcwarehouse I know he was a sub in the Car Ann Boo memorial trophy.
I know it's a sponsorship deal and all that but that name just doesn't suite a cup contest. Milk Cup Coca-Cola Cup Worthington's Cup Carling Cup Capitol One Cup All sound a bit better (well Capitol One Cup sounds a bit odd), wasn't it also known as the Rumbelows Cup once?
Yes it was aka Rumbleows Cup, and I think there was at least another name, but it escapes me, or am I wrong?
The days when it was a big deal. Remember a game at home to West Ham, full house, cracking atmosphere under the lights with massive away support and gutting to lose a great game 2-3. About 1986 I think. Goddard scored a great goal. Be lucky to get an FA cup game with that atmosphere now!
The best thing they could possibly do would be to turn it into an EFL Cup by excluding the Premier League teams. Would be a genuinely competitive cup competition that the entirety of the Championship could win (and possibly a few top League 1 teams, League 2 teams could make the semis). Boring 15th place seasons could be livened up by a shot at Wembley, would also create the possibility of a Championship/League Cup double. Imagine two EFL teams selling out Wembley for a shot at meaningful silverware. Will never happen of course because £££. And the PL teams will keep moaning about fixture congestion and swanning off to their pre season tours.
No, that was the old name of the EFL Trophy (the one for L1 and L2 teams now called the Bristol Street Motors Trophy or something)
I’ve thought similar before but just take out all the teams who are playing in Europe that season. Would leave 13 Prem teams (who are beatable by champ teams on their day). I’d also say the winner still makes Europa Conference the next year. Now you have a realistic chance of silverware and a shot at Europe without the big 6/7 in your way.
Doumbia was considered one of the "stars" of the Mali U17s' World Cup run last year, and it's just been announced that one of the others from the team - Sekou Kone, a central midfielder - is joining Man Utd. Another midfielder, Ibrahim Diarra, is joining Barcelona once he turns 18. While Doumbia is still a bit raw and will need time, it underlines what I said on the first page when the deal was first rumoured that we will have done well to get him. 6 year deal as well.
Pretty impressive for an 18-year-old to start up front in an AFCON qualifier for a nation ranked higher than Greece and Ireland. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be knocking on the door to start for us as well. It’s not like the competition are world beaters.
The main thing is that he’s been known as a very very promising player and the fact Cleverley and also the Mali manager seem he’s good enough to play in such games is enough for me. He’ll have more room to grow and ability than Rajovic so a no brainer to develop him really
An 18 year old striker who is already a full international will be a third choice striker, that’s fine by me!
He played against a team that is ranked alongside Guyana, Tahiti, Hong Kong and New Caledonia (no, me neither). I wouldn't say this necessarily means he's ready for the Championship...
Not sure he has impressed that much for the u23s since landing here ? He looked a little out of his depth in that 9-0(?) defeat last week, though the whole team did.
The fact that he’s starting for a country who are half-decent is a promising sign though, I dare say many Championship sides have a third choice striker who plays internationally
