Luton spent £30m on players this season as well. Absolutely fabulous

Conceded 6 goals more than expected this season, the worst in the league, they could have had anyone else in the division and they'd have stayed up!

Out most of the day enjoying more of the fine spring weather and a wild walk in the country.

Was cutting my way through a jungle dense with brambles and small trees at the time the Championship games kicked off, so I couldn’t follow the key games consistently unless I had R5 on all the time (and I prefer to have the sounds of nature). Was frustrated from getting scratched all the time and getting virtually nowhere before finally checking the scores just after 13:05. Results going against the scum, Preston and Hull both 1-0 up, but during my nervous anticipation in the time it took me to scroll all the way down to the WBA-Scum match, I fully expected them to be leading 1-0 as well. To my surprise and delight they were already 3-1 down after two quickfire goals. That lifted my spirits and I seemed to be able to cut my way through the jungle more easily and quickly, I could walk fully upright and the sun was streaming into the thicket with the joyful sounds of civilisation not far away.

Much later I checked shortly before 14:00, Luton were 5-2 down but Portsmouth had equalised and I was thinking they would be the luckiest c*nts ever if Pompey were to get a winner. Then I checked the scores after FT and thought that means they’re down because Hull didn’t lose, and I clicked on the 5-3 score to confirm after the BBC match report had appeared. A long and tiring day, but not a bad one overall, for more reasons than one…

When you spend £10m on a player as a newly relegated team, you'd expect them to be a game-changer, not, erm, Mark McGuinness? No wonder that deal was described as 'good business for Cardiff'!

This thread is going to make for depressing reading when they get promoted next year and we get relegated…

  19. I take absolutely no joy in watching them relegated this year. There is no fun taken from seeing a fellow club disintegrate over the past 2 seasons the way they have. A club similar in size and stature; in their drive and passion; In their hopes and dreams. As fellow fans of smaller clubs, we are all in this together against the so-called domination of the bigger clubs with all their spending power. *

But it had to happen this year. Had they survived, the team they have would've been built on and they'd have been really strong next season and would be another club standing in our own way of promotion. They are having to blow a whole season of parachute payments on trying to get out of division one and that in turn selfishly benefits out own hopes of the promised land. They are placing their own hopes and dreams on a huge stadium that they might never fill and have sacrificed their own fans hope and joy on something that might ultimately be an expensive elephant in the room. We should pity and empathise with them and hope that they make it back sooner rather than later. Our rivalry can only make the league a better place.

    * kidding. It's bloody beautiful that the scummy little imps went down and I couldn't be happier! Two relegations in succession for a pointless scummy little club and a dirty scummy little town. The. Championship is a cleaner and happier place without the filthy inbreds.

  20. P.s. I'm fully aware of how much this post will almost definitely come back and bite me on the arse in 12 months time!!!!

Blue Sunshine is a really underrated album, I think it’s because many don’t like Jeannette Landray’s vocals, but I actually think she’s quite impressive and effective, especially given singing wasn’t her main profession, suiting the dark and psychedelic (but still colourful in a hallucinogenic way, not surprisingly like a mix of the Banshees and mid-80s Cure) material really well. But I love Robert Smith’s numbers and a lot of the instrumental stuff as well.

Hard to argue against them being the favourites given they have Matt Bloomfield, parachute payments, the form they finished this season in, the number of clubs that have bounced back up as champions or in second place with a high points tally after seriously underachieving (Leicester, Norwich, Wolves, Wigan, Blackburn, Birmingham) and the fact that League 1 looks like it’ll be weaker especially if Charlton come up. There are a couple of caveats in that that kind of thing still doesn’t happen often and with the exception of Wigan, Luton is a smaller club than all of the above if that’s any indicator. I’m hoping they have a Huddersfield-like season (tailed off terribly after being in the promotion frame most of the season albeit not convincingly and have ended the season with six straight defeats despite some winnable fixtures) but I think they will finish in the play-offs (Bolton and maybe Huddersfield will come good, and Barnsley don’t usually stay down there for long) which they usually lose and we can laugh at them again as long as we at least stay up.

Remember how bad the season was after we were relegated the last time, how toxic it was and how little the players applied themselves. Now imagine if we went down that season!

Just watching the highlights, their goblin esque fans clapped the players off the pitch. And they sang Play Up Pompey if X is to believed.

Yes, I don’t love it but it’s an interesting album. I picked perfect murder as it’s my favourite track.

Was supposed to be going to the last match of the season with my dad. Instead, I ended up spending the afternoon with him on the AMU ward at The Royal Surrey in Guildford. The first thing he said to my sister and I as we arrived at 2pm for visiting hours, with a broad grin on his face, was that it looked like Luton were going down!

Thanks. To avoid being one of those people who “checks in” at A&E with no further explanation I will update that my dad should be leaving hospital today after being monitored for 24 hours.

Not so sure. They have a number of players on PL salaries, and will need to decide whether they gamble and keep those players on, because if they don’t get back at the first time of asking they will have a very high salary levels for league 1. They should have been up at the top of the league this yr, but weren’t as they had lots of players on high salaries that couldn’t be bothered. Back to back relegations is a real kick in the teeth and no doubt morale will be on the floor.
