Ok, I see you mention sending him on loan. Say we loaned him out for a year, that's a year gone on his contract - What next? The guy didn't want to be here. He was going to go sooner or later. The money now, no matter how small, helps us now, and as mentioned previously it might mean we can keep a Hughes or Sarr - loaning him out again does nothing for us.

Someone stand behind Burnsy before he reads this as he's abundantly clear on my view on this player, I'd have Andre 'Touch of a brick wall" Gray over this chap after how's kicked off.

Although the Covid situation holds some truth, I do think it's being vastly overplayed. There are still a lot of high value transfer deals being made for similar valuations as other years. It only seems at Watford where the virus has hit the hardest. Norwich, Brentford and Bournemouth seem to be getting terrific values for their players.

We can't compare him to Watkins! that was just Villa having a brainfart.

Personally think Bournemouth have sold Callum Wilson very cheaply. Proven PL goalscorer, England International, Homegrown, decent age.

Villa have spent 70% more on Watkins.
    Crazy.

Again, fair point. However these players are players who have proven to be able to perform in a top tier, which Suarez has not.

In Ake's case, he has been consistently the cream of the crop in an otherwise bang-average side for a number of years. We know money isn't really a problem for City, pandemic or not.

There's no right answer, and as always, people can debate these things until the cows come home. Hindsight will forever be the decider.

But a bad injury record and a high wage earner, plus he had a bad scoring year the previous season. These are reasons that are bound to keep the value slightly down on that particular deal.

I just think there are signs that our club are not very good at negotiating sale prices.

To teams in the premier league and for home grown qualified players .... only place where money is and seems no one there wanted to take a punt on Suarez even at £10m

Anyone that thinks he is currently worth £25m is being unreasonable. However, I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest he is probably worth more than £10m. There is a massive middle ground between the two.

No idea what you mean by the landscape is different really - Rhian Brewster is going for £23m after one decent half season in the championship, Watkins gone for £33m after 2-3 seasons in the championship. Godfrey going for £30m and Lewis for £15m after being part of a defence that was a colossal failure last season.

Anyone buying him or Brewster or Godfrey are gambling on potential, so the fact that they aren't a 25m striker right now is sort of irrelevant.

Maybe the also player had no desire to play in the PL just as he had no desire to play in the championship.

Europa league with Granada in the city where his wife lives is probably more appealing than playing for a mid table club in the PL.

Being Homegrown helps a lot to with value. We've seen some real mediocre players who are English move for ridiculous fees over the past few seasons.

If he was happy to stay we'd have more power to push a fee up, but ultimately when a player is refusing to play/train the club lose a lot of power in negotiating as they know it's just a depreciating asset on the books.

If we had to move him out of the club, and there's only one club interested (and which knows we have to move him out of the club), then we're forced to accept whatever they offer.

ok that’s true, and I hope I am wrong but everything I am seeing and hearing through my job indicates otherwise. Regardless, you are correct it’s not a demonstrable fact, but I guess the difference is I’m not insisting everyone has to agree with my viewpoint.

I agree to a certain extent, but I do think the homegrown factor is often overstated. There are clubs where it is relevant like City but Villa and Sheffield United don't really have a problem meeting the home grown quota. The fees being quoted by Brentford for Benrahama are similar.

I fully understand the reasons the fee is low - but it doesn't stop it being in my opinion a low fee for a player of his ability and potential.

My point was more to contest this strawman argument people keep making where they accuse others on here of thinking he is a £25m player which is very different from people saying £10m is low.

Granada must be idiots then. They could have offered £1 and we would have been forced to take it. Missed a trick there didn't they.

  22. The club accepted the offer so it must have been within their window of acceptability for the extraordinary circumstances the club finds itself - relegation, with debts, in a depressed covid market. Trying to second guess why the club makes the decisions it does is entertaining but pointless. If selling these 2 clowns, who never wanted to be here, refused to train, and did all they could to get back to Spain, for £20m +, means we can retain players like Hughes and have a proper go at promotion then in my mind it’s the best outcome from bad business. What do they say in politics? Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

Yes, but Bournemouth (like us) are facing a massive fall in revenue this season and have to make that up somehow. Clubs knows that they (like us) have less negotiating power.

Aston Villa on the other hand are awash with PL cash. At face value, it would have been a better deal for them to sign Wilson (proven in the PL and an England international) over Watkins.

I have say, my opinion on this sale has softened somewhat based mainly on this post.

I don't whether to really admit it though as modifying your position is frowned upon around here and in some cases, downright opposed.
