As I mentioned earlier in the thread, hopefully he's just for the sub's bench and we're also looking at some first choice midfielders as well.

I do wonder from reading this guy's profile and having seen us linked with Glen Kamara previously, whether we went for Kamara first but were put off by Rangers asking for too much, and so have now gone for the budget option instead.

I think it is a cheap option to cover a position we are already reasonably stocked with Hughes, Chalobah and Cleverley (I see Gosling as playing a bit further forwards) with the advantage that he is young and may develop to compete for a position over time.

We need a starting quality creative midfielder - but Ferguson just seems so different to the type of player we need I hope he is an addition to that player.

A great write up, and he sounds like a very promising prospect, however, IMO that is exactly what he is at present.

Having said that I think he could well be worth investing in as long as we are not expecting him to be a regular 1st team player yet. Therefore as long as we are looking to bring in a player or two who will improve our MF and hit the ground running next season, then at the right price LF could well be one to step up in a season or two.

I disagree. This is the guy to fire us to the top of the League and give the big six a massive kick up the arse. Get it done Gino!

We aren’t a breeding ground for experimentation.

    We need proven quality.

    Not future hope or promise.

    Not to survive the PL.

    Clueless.

Trouble is what does proven quality cost and can we afford that?

I presume you mean proven Premier league players?

We are aiming for 17th at best I suspect.

From what I've read the lad seems nothing but promising! Maybe he's not first team ready but is someone who could come in and do a decent job now and in the future. But I can't understand the panic, I'm just pleased that we're sorting g out some early deals.

Proven quality comes at a price. Failing to look at the future is one of the things that lets Pozzo down but something we seem to be doing now. I very much suspect that even having been promoted we don't have a lot of cash. If you think we are going to sign players of proven quality at this level for the money they go for you may be disappointed

We've hardly ever bought players of proven PL quality unless they're damaged goods in some way.

Pererya, Deulofeu, Capoue, and a couple more.

I think we need a couple of those signings in key positions or we are in for a tough season. (Not panicking yet though!).

More than happy to have 10 signings like of Baah and Ferguson to compliment as whilst 7 or 8 will be cheap Jerome Sinclairs, 1 or 2 will be Ashley Youngs or Ishmail Sarrs.

Evening gentlmen. I am an Aberdeen fan, and I have a smol human lying on me right now.

I want to give you a realistic picture of this transfer situation.

Despite Covid, we have only made a loss of £200k. That's partly due to the fact that our chairman is vastly wealthy. Regardless, we are not in a position where we need to sell the best Scottish prospect. Ferguson is under contract for 3 years, and I have absolutely no doubt we'll hold out for a big fee, and a hefty sell on clause.

Lewis is significantly better now than John McGinn was at the same age. Whether he goes on to reach the heights McGinn has remains to be seen.

    Evening.

I’m sorry to inform you, but incase you haven’t noticed, we are Premier League. The SPL is same level as League 1/League 2.

You will accept what we offer you because you don’t have a choice. Lewis has already seen the light and handed in a transfer request. Doesn’t matter that you rejected it, he has stated his intent to leave the club. Bottom line, you won’t keep him and you won’t get £4mil for him. Hefty sell on clause, you don’t know Gino. There is nothing he does that’s hefty. There won’t even be a sell on clause.

You won’t keep a player around that has a desire to leave, its harmful to the rest of the squad.

We will buy him, but not for £4mil. It will be £2-2.5mil upfront, rising to £3mil.

This deal will be finalized by next week at the latest. It will go as an undisclosed fee, so your chairman can push the narrative that he got the £4mil he wanted. Deep down, we all know that’s not true though.

Just be glad that a massive club like Watford want to take a risk on a young player from the pits of the SPL to the Premier League. That in itself will probably put your club on the map and is the most relevant thing your club has achieved in its entire history. You’re welcome.

Edit: Just realized my error, £2-3mil is hefty for an SPL club. You could probably buy Rangers or Celtic with that money.

Let's face up. If Scottish football had the same advantages, Aberdeen would be a Premiership club. We have a heritage that a London suburb can only hope to aspire to.

If you want our player, you'll have to pay EPL level fees.

  21. Illgresi

Ferguson as a player is a classic BtB midfielder. Does everything well, but a smidge under EPL level right now. He's got the physique to make an EPL midfielder, and he's damn smart. He drew the most fouls of any player this season.

Haha no you wouldn’t, don’t be daft. The arrogance of SPL fans is hilarious. No different than the nonsense Rangers and Celtic fans spew out. Aberdeen would be hanging out with the likes of Portsmouth, Charlton, Ipswich and Crewe in League 1 with the occasional promotion push into the championship. If Rangers and Celtic ever joined the Prem, they would be the whipping boys of the league and would predictably get relegated in their first season, never to be seen again.

Being a club in Hertfordshire is a bigger heritage and far more attractive to players than anything your club has ever done. Just accept it. The SPL is a washed up league.

We will get him if we want him, but definitely not for a overinflated price just because Aberdeen fans think he’s worth £4mil. Gino has flaws, one of them being a massive penny pincher, but he won’t enter into a bidding war. Ferguson and his agent will know that. This is the kids chance to prove himself on the biggest footballing stage in the World. Your chairman will buckle, he always does. You never get the price you think you should get for players. This will be no different

Like I said, this will be done next week, for around £2-2.5mil upfront rising to £3mil. We might even be kind and chuck in one of our reserves on loan, who would actually end up being the best player in the SPL.

Given the he has expressed a desire to play in the EPL and has submitted a transfer request, do you really want to risk keeping a player that has made it clear he doesn't want to be there? Keep him and you run the risk of having a sulky player that downs tools, underperforms and causes trouble in the dressing room, if that happens his value goes down not up.
If the situation were reversed I'd be saying Pish off then, I only want players at my club that want to be at my club.

I imagine he wants to leave because Scotland has turned into a banana republic **** hole under the SNP, and he wants to live somewhere much nicer.

Let's be honest it's not often a club keeps a player now who has shown a desire to leave, plus if the gentleman's agreement has been ignored I can fully understand his anger. It will no doubt be completed sooner rather than later.

I'm going to reverse that by saying...he's got 3 years on his contract. The ball is firmly in our court, and while we are in no disillusion that we are a selling club, we have absolutely no realistic need to sell unless it's on our terms.

Regarding the comments about Ferguson not being a Scotland international yet...he's a bit unlucky that we've gone from absolutely zero talent in midfield, to much talent, in the space of 5 years.

He may have 3 years on his contract, but do you want a sulky disruptive influence hanging round the team or on "gardening leave" for 3 years?
Like I said if one of our players was saying what he's saying, then I'd be helping him pack and driving him away from my club.

Firstly, he's made no comments himself. He's got a card carrying moron of an agent. One who apparently didn't have a release clause written into his last contract...

Secondly, if he's anything, he's a superb professional. If we don't receive an offer we consider appropriate, I have no doubt he'll go into next season fully prepared and determined. Anything other than that will only adversely affect himself.

Yep. By all accounts, a £3m fee, plus £3m in add ons, and somewhere between 10% and 20% sell on for McKenna.

Ferguson is a bigger talent than McKenna, has longer on his contract than McKenna did, and supposedly going to a higher league. You're absolutely right, if you want him, you'll get him. You'll be paying for it...
