I don't think the official Premier League stats award assists for any penalties won, do they? As in, it's just not a category they consider to be an assist, full stop.

What's infuriating is how quickly we conceded after both goals. Given they took time to clear the pitch after the second both were roughly 4 mins after we scored.

Overall that was a really strong performance and we should be walking away with a point at least.

If we do go down I think it will feel even more avoidable than 19/20 as we have the goals to stay up comfortably, the front 3 already have 15, but we're averaging nearly two goals per game currently with routine spankings coming up from Chelsea and City.

I can't be ar5ed to read all the posts on this thread as I'm fairly certain I know what they say. Two points, I don't care if there was a shout, you never ever duck when the ball is heading in to the middle of your own penalty box. Kabs must play vs Chelsea. Second point, whoever in the summer said that signing a fat, unfit left was all the defensive reinforcements we needed should be fired immediately for gross incompetence. The most annoying thing is that the last two games we've played some fantastic football but yesterday were let down, not by the players, but by the person who said the defence would be fine in the Premier League. God help us vs City

Yep. We just can’t help ourselves. We either give away big chances/goals at the beginning of each half or we concede quickly after scoring.

We will beat the record for longest PL gap between clean sheets this week - and will go some way beyond the current record too I expect. Genuinely wouldn’t shock me if we don’t keep a clean sheet all season.

It’s clearly a big thing at the club as the Ranieri has mentioned ‘clean sheet’ over and over again. The defenders just seem totally incapable.

Having just seen WTE's **** up for the first goal on film, I think he should be paraded around the front of the stands before the game on Wednesday and fans should have the chance to chuck rotten vegetables, cow dung, horse manure, cups of urine - whatever they want to bring with them - at him.

We were good going forward but Leicester looked like they could score everytime they went forward. We just gifted them goals, I was just about in line with Troost when he decided to gift them a goal and I genuinely could not believe my eyes. It's a shame we can't defend even half competently because I think if we could then we would stay up relatively comfortably, our build up play is good and we look dangerous.

I think one option is some run of the mill, nothing special, not too fancy Italian defenders, don't have to be from the top clubs just experienced heads

What was that you constantly whine on about; something to do with ‘spamming up threads’?

Particularly when it’s some kind of strange joke interpretation that you’ve literally pulled out of your ass - you should really have expected better of yourself.

Nothing strange about the interpretation at all, it's plain for all to see.

It's clear that you like to spend your free time pointlessly arguing with people on the internet, so I'm going to put you back on block, for both of our benefits.

This is our saving grace to a degree. We’re not looking for a prime Maldini, we’re just in need of a player who can play at a Premier League level. Nkoulou, an out of contract player who couldn’t find a club, looks like a defensive god in our back line. This gives me a lot of hope that we don’t really need an amazing player, but we do need someone who is competent to play in the league we are actually in.

It’s been a long held criticism why the club cannot facilitate this requirement. I cannot work it out why it’s beyond them and has been for many years.

They’ve done amazing work in upgrading the forward line. Forget how much we spent on Sarr, we signed Dennis & King for a combined fee of £3.6m. We had a long term plan with Pedro and Cucho, we went big on Sarr. The thought process on the forward line has been excellent.

A lot of thought has also gone into the midfield. It’s not quite so eye-catching, but getting Sissoko was an excellent piece of business. I’m impressed, or expect to be impressed with Louza, Tufan and Kucka.

Why the feck can’t a board who have done such great work, totally overlook the defence……..yet again. I just can never work that one out.

If we sign a good CB in January, to play with Nkoulou and/or Sierralta, then we give ourselves a great chance of staying up. Do nothing or just sign another Championship standard CB we will go down. I think the choice is that stark.

The club posted this before kick off yesterday. Absolutely jinxed the guy.

Looks like he was trying to duck under them in the warm-up but misjudged it.

I suppose it doesn’t really matter but it seems to have become an accepted truth that Watford only played well in the first half v Villa. Cucho’s goal to make it 3-0 came midway through the second half and we were cruising to an easy victory when McGinn scored out of the blue and against the run of play with 20 minutes to go. Even then Villa didn’t look like getting back into the game until they scored the penalty and nearly got another, both in injury time. I suspect it is those last few minutes of the game that has coloured people’s memory of what actually happened that afternoon.

My guess is that Bachmann came racing out in response to all the criticism of him staying rooted on his line all the time.
The sad thing is that he doesn't have a clue when to come out as this is not his natural game .
As for WTF, no one called. Bachmann has a booming voice, so we would all heard it.
It was simply WTF's lack of game awareness. Both WTF and Cathcarthorse do not look around them. No idea why not, but it is not in their skill set.
How many times has Cathcarthorse lost his man? Stacks.
WTF is not good enough and these are errors he will keep making.
He knows the fans don't rate him due to the muted cheers when his name is announced. Cathcarthorse name is met with near silence.
Ranieri is no fool, he will be out there scouting/using contacts for CB's and RB/LB.
We looked good going forward, but shambolic at the back.

For me personally, I feel like it's also fair to say that we did the classic 'Watford wind-down' over the course of that second half, and gradually lost the extreme control we had over the game.

Targett was taken off and Ashley Young locked down the right wing a lot more securely, so Sarr wasn't running rampant anymore, and Cucho's goal was spectacular, but also a completely individual effort that came from his own maverick flash of genius rather than consistent good attacking play. Their penalty came as as a result of them applying more pressure as we retreated further and further and let them, and after it, Masina severely threatened to give away a second with basically the same mistake, as they once again found space and time in our box.

They ended up with 200 more touches and 200 more passes than us, and we had to make 25 clearances to their 6. Although shots on target were 7-2, shots themselves were a much more even story: 13 - 11 (in our favour). Of course, the scoreline is the most important thing in the end, but we are lucky the game ended when it did - it was kind of like a microcosm of QSF's first season, played out in one 90-minute period.

Because of that, for me, it's hard to look at that second 45 minutes and make a case for it being a good performance. And, of course, however much value you are inclined to place on this, we did strictly-speaking lose the second half. Perhaps we could say it was one good 60-minute performance?

I am never fazed by criticism on here.
The whole point of this site is to allow the fans a platform for their views.
No one really cares, none of what we say on here will make the slightest bit a difference to the players or the club.
    It's harmless and forgettable.

I'd say based on PL performances for Watford, Nkoulou is 1st choice which is insane and Kaba is probably 2nd choice with Cathu 3rd which coincidentally is the order whoscored.com puts them in. It's noticeable we only conceded 4 goals in the 3 games Sierralta started but as of yet he hasnt made the step up to the PL. How we miss the Sierralta of last season, fok knows what's happened to the c@nt this season....

Apparantly Scott is looking into the possibility of forfeiting the next 2 games. It's pretty tempting given that we get 0 points and a -6 goal difference compared to 0 points and -8 or more if we turn up.

Gino has released a detailed statement confirming he would rather die than pay money for a centre back.

The club have also released a youtube video recreating the infamous 'I don't tip' scene from Resevoir Dogs: Gino 'I don't pay for centre backs', Watford fans 'Whaddaumean u don't pay for centre backs??', Gino 'I don't believe in it' Watford fans 'Whaddaumean u don't believe in it?........come on u cheap bastid, cough up!!'

I’m sure you’ll make another completely non-sensical statement that has no basis in reality and you can’t back up with any reasoning somewhere - that’ll distract him.

Aren’t you due another claim that we should look at playing someone out of position? How about Ashley Fletcher in goal?

Cathcart has been a very good player for us and is still worth his place in the Northern Ireland team. He's way past his best now, but his problems arise when he has to cover for WTE as well as doing his own job. He's not quick enough now to be in two places at once.
