I don't think you come across as confused. You've summarised it well. We badly need better defenders.

Having a read through twitter you would think our whole defence was awful, when in fact it was just WTE and Bachmann

The first goal was Sunday league, home counties division 4, at best. The 2nd was awful decision making to go that far out when staying near the near post would have given him a simple save. The third, was bad enough for King to lose his man, but for the keeper to be facing down the pitch when the ball was coming across the goal face beggars belief. There was no way in hell he was going to adjust his body to get near the ball, let alone pull of a wonder save.

Cucho should have scored rather than laying it off & WTE should have scored with his header. Away from home you can't afford to miss those sorts of chances.

    Makers of our own downfall

This is the problem. On their day, any of them can pass for a Premier League defender. But the chances of all four defenders and whichever keeper we choose all playing well at the same time are negligible. Whichever back five we put out, at least one of them will do something braindead a couple of times a game.

Pretty obvious he didn't but he can hardly say to his mates in the dressing room 'I just decided to leave it because I'm a crap defender with no awareness of what's around me, lads. We go again.'

That’s a good ploy. If Lukaku gets through on goal on Wednesday I’m going to shout “don’t score”. I bloody well hope he listens.

Yeah, as I said in the Team Bus thread - in the video of this it really appears that Sissoko is saying it in the way you would pass on an excuse a friend gave you and you don't believe to a third party - implied inverted commas, so to speak.

Come the end of the season I’m sure there will be three worse teams than Watford. You’ve got good attackers and a fine manager, just need a defender or two in Jan.

I wasn’t able to go today but I’ve seen the goals. What a shocker for the first, sounds like like it could’ve gone quite differently but for some individual errors.

Well yes. If Troost does it against Liverpool Salah scores it 95% of the time, but Callum Wilson will only slot it away 80% of the time. We can take solace when fielding him against the Geordies.

Our defence - just a series of c*** ups.
Hopefully the sun will go down on our current centre backs..

We need to be less innocent and stupid - Your teammate is on the deck injured and the ball ain't going out of play - stick an opposition on the deck.

I heard Ranieri wanted to replace both Cathcart and Troost-Ekong at half time. But not enough snow had fallen by then to make the snowmen.

Btw, what happened to Kucka? Only a one match ban which had been served. Not even on the bench!! Another injury?

I miss the good old days of the Championship where teams would only score 25% of the time from our record equalling defence's howlers.

Yep. Which is a shame as he seems to train in a vest whatever the weather so would've been more use than Tufan who looked like he was frozen solid until he finally thawed out to miss that presentable chance.

Christ I was pissed yesterday. I only found out it was 4-2 when I got home. I somehow completely missed the 3rd goal. Currently sat on the pan typing this feeling like death.

    Never again.

Not at all… Well maybe a couple of centre backs, a left back, a ‘keeper and a creative midfielder…

Filbert, can we do a team swap for the rest of the season? You can have our back line and we can have yours? What's the chances you still finish above us? :D

The point is rather that he should at least be better than WTE.

Sierralta was consistently better than WTE last season, so in theory should be better than WTE once he finally is available for a run of games.

Leicester's back line is also pretty crap right now; weren't you watching yesterday?!

Wonder what the score would have been, and what the level of abuse for our defence have been, had Foster, Nkoulou, Sierralta and even Kaba been fit ?

I've now watched the entire match on Sky. So, we actually played quite well overall. Going forward we looked a threat all afternoon.

Was unlucky with a deflected shot which hit the inside of the post and somehow stayed out. Cucho was through on another occasion but decided to pass to King when shooting was the best option. Tufan was really unlucky when at full stretch he steered a brilliant Kiko pass just wide of the post. There were other moments too.

I was frustrated to see how long VAR checked the Dennis goal for a foul, yet when an even more blatant foul occurred on Masina for their fourth goal, nothing was checked.

The game turned into a farce because of the weather. It was a lottery, so it's tough to judge Watford's performance as the conditions really played a part. But, the first two goals were totally avoidable. Basic mistakes giving us needless pain. We all know WTE's incredible misjudgement cost us the first goal, but it didn't have an impact on Watford's performance. We were the better side before the goal and continued to be so, earning an equaliser and was the better side right until the second goal. Again, it was a needless one to concede. A good passing move from Leicester, but Bachmann charging out and going to ground made Vardy's task a much easier one.

So we shot ourselves in the foot for the first two. The third goal was a very good one from a Leicester POV. Maybe Bachmann was a little too static, but sometimes you've got the give the opposition credit for the goal. The half time score line of 3-1 was in no way reflective of the first half. Watford were certainly equal if not better than Leicester.

Second half conditions made the game a lottery. Both sides had numerous moments to score. Watford probably had better chances, although Bachmann did make a fantastic save to deny Vardy late on.

A 4-2 defeat was not deserved on the balance of play. We deserve at least a point from the game. But, if you cannot defend, then you will be punished. Maddison and Vardy really enjoyed their afternoons I suspect.

I like the way we're playing though. We look a threat going forward and will score a lot of goals I'm sure of it. Really good performances from Dennis, King, Cucho, Kiko, Sissoko and Pedro when he came on. They all made positive contributions. Bachmann had a mixed bag. Made a couple of incredible saves, but was at fault for the second goal. Masina was decent enough, and Cathcart although not great, did enough to suggest if he played alongside a better partner his shortcomings could be covered.

Louza was ok, but didn't reach the heights of his United debut. Cleverley, although busy, again, wasn't at the level of the United game. It was hard to judge Tufan, as the conditions made the game a joke, but he was unlucky not to score with 10 minutes to go. That would have made it 4-3 and given Watford a real chance of salvaging a point. Fletcher did a couple of positive things, but is well below the level of the other forward players we have.

So overall, the feeling I got was it was a largely self-inflicted defeat. Too many defensive lapses. Good forward play and excellent commitment in general.

Really good post overall. This bit is the key for me - I've said all season we don't look capable of drawing games. We had enough decent chances to win 2 games yesterday but if nothing else in the PL if you go away and don't lose that's almost always a decent outcome.

One thing you can say is that aside from 45 minutes against Villa, we looked absolutely hopeless under Munoz, we didn’t have a clue. We actually look good under Ranieri, we’re fun to watch and you always feel like we can score, we’re just getting undone by unforced errors.

    I agree with this…but.

We know the types of characters we sign. They aren’t the type to keep battling away game after game. If the defence keep making massive clangers that cost points, the attackers down the other end are pretty likely to down tools sooner rather than later. It was already alluded to by Sissoko yesterday that the strikers are going to be feeling let down.

Agree, but to an extent I wouldn’t blame them for that. It’s frustrating as hell for us fans so it can’t be any different for them. Dennis has some of the best stats in the league and it’s largely counting for nothing at the moment.

Apart the Newcastle game, which we were trashed in drawn game., we lost with a whimper against the other sides.
Teams don't need a class finisher such as Vardy.
Laurel and Hardy would score with ease against WTF and Cathcarthorse playing in central defence.
It is becoming clear that when WTF name is announced over the tannoy there is a collective groan from the fans. He is quickly becoming a joke selection.
I watched the game this morning. Awful at the back. Not bad upfront at all. Why Cucho didn't shoot, we will never know.
We have to beat the teams around us and we are failing to do this.
Any game against a team in the top ten or top 15 is a cup final for us.
We have a chance to stay up with our attack, but no chance with our current defence.
The club needs to sort this out if possible.
