I'd pick 32 as the sweet spot

Cathcart was not the problem today he did ok. All on Bachmann who isnt good enough and makes the defense pensive.. and WTE who isnt that bad 1 on 1, but makes 2 or 3 appaling errors per game. Like Kabasele but more haphazard.

Don't really matter for Chelsea and Man City as we're getting tonked whatever. But we really could do with Foster, Sierralta and or Nkoulou back soon and someone new in Jan.

Didn’t catch the game as I was enjoying a spa day. Started to catch up on this thread, but got waylaid by some random argument that turned into some teenage-style “likes” competition. It then occurred to me that I had pretty much no sleep last night and that we lost so the mood wasn’t going to get any better on this thread so didn’t bother to read the rest.
But just thought I’d let all of you know, who are taking “likes” as an indication of how nice a person you are, that I have a paltry 0.33 likes per post. I could try to claim that it’s because I post in competitions and Werewolf games (which I miss by the way) but it’s probably because I’m an arse or irrelevant. I’ll try not to lose too much sleep over the fact that I’m not the most popular person on a forum of people I don’t know!

On a vaguely positive note Ranieri included Sarr in his list of players he hopes will be back soon which suggests at the very least he isn't dead.

I'm not sure how Sierralta has become a PL defender while out of the side. So far he's failed to make the step up from the champo.

Assuming he can maintain this level, Nkoulou was an amazing signing. Outside the transfer window and on a freebie it was a classic Pozzo signing but not enough to sure up our obviously leaky defence. If the FA Cup final and soon to be 25 PL games without a clean sheet doesn't force Gino's hand I don't know what will. I'm starting to think Gino's wife might be shagging a centre back and that's why he refuses to spend money on one.

Bachmann’s decision to go to ground for the 2nd completely defies logic. He came out to close Vardy at a tight angle with the ball bouncing, the only thing vardy can do is lob it - so Bachmann dives to the ground to present the perfect opening for vardy to do just that. It’s genuinely league 2 standard.

    I shouldn't worry, I'm sure you won't!
I was told by an abusive father ( to a teenage player who subsequently told his mother he was contemplating suicide) that I had no integrity!
I take that as a safeguarding 'like'!

From memory of about six years ago Gino's wife is ' a fair piece' as Anthony Aloysius Hancock used to say,so she maybe the talk of a rowdy dressing room.

I hear Man Utd want him to replace De Gea. Or at least that's what Bachmann's agent is telling him.

Claudio will have more clout than any previous head coach. We'll see in January whether he has enough.

Meanwhile I'm happy that we're playing more entertaining and better organised football than befote and I'm readonably confident that we'll still be in the Prem next season.

The BBC have been touting Ranieri's record so far as being poor but I don't think I've ever been so confident that the manager is the right person for the job. The fact we even got any improvement out of the defence we have was an impossible feat and I'm not left wondering where are next points are coming from... albeit the next 2 games we will get absolutely tonked for sure. Its not Ranieri's fault the defence is so crap, that big steaming pile of flaming turds is firmly at Ginos feet

Hard to win a game when you start with 9 and 2x 1/2 players (0 players for the hard of thinking). Deserved a point out of that and would have got one or maybe more if Bachman and Throbbin' were'nt our only back ups. We need two centre backs with top league experience in January, hopefully we can find another bad apple like Dennis that we can shine up a bit. I have faith in Claudio as our performances are so much better than they were but if you have the defenders we have you are going to struggle.

It is relevant because excellent strikers score more goals than average strikers. Vardy scored two goals today and both were of top drawer quality. Not everybody in the Premier league could have scored those. Yes, he was helped more than a little by our extremely limited defending (including the goalkeeper), but he has achieved similar results against much better defenders than our's. If it had been, say, Maupey or Armstrong attempting those strikes we may well have not conceded them. And, it follows, if he hadn't scored them we would not have lost. So yes, it really is relevant.
I am, I suppose, a little surprised that no one else has picked up on it. But I guess it doesn't quite fit the story and perhaps they are frightened to go against the flow because they will be willfully misinterpreted in arguments they never intended.

And the club head shed will justify no money or very little spent on the defensive players by saying they pick up enough quality with free transfers etc.

Does anyone apart from you call him that ?

Bit weird to ridicule the Jamaican accent, especially when Chalobah is from Sierra Leone originally.

I don't understand how you can continue to complain about 'arguments' when you have voluntarily posted your comment on a public forum designed for discussion about Watford FC - regardless, there's no wilful misrepresentation going on, unless it's by you, because you are completely ignoring the actual point of reaction to your comment as though it didn't exist.

It doesn't matter if Vardy is a good striker - he wouldn't even have had those opportunities to be so brilliant if it wasn't for the mistakes of our defenders, and that it what is relevant to us. Not how great, or indeed not (in the case of Maddison as you initially also included) Leicesters players are. He hasn't achieved similar results against better teams than us thanks to the same amateur, embarrassing defensive failures as we committed today, and that is what is relevant.

It doesn't matter to us that other teams have also conceded to Vardy, any more than it matters than there are also teams that play in League Two, or have an orange kit. We are not them, and our concessions today were squarely our problem.

We are playing in the premier league - of course if one of our substandard centre backs does something idiotic we are likely to be punished. It goes without saying.

You: It doesn't matter if Vardy is a good striker.
Me: It does matter that he is a good striker.
Both of us: Our defence is not good enough.
And, from my point of view, that's it for this sub-thread.

I do get what you mean. We haven’t and Won’t come up against this Level of finishing every week . Newcastle , Southampton , Leeds and Spurs didn’t take full advantage of our generosity and arguably if we’d been playing with the same level of intensity in those matches we could have had 5 or 6 more points so it’s not all doom and gloom. But obviously we give ourselves a hard task if we can’t keep a clean sheet ( though I think you agree with this point anyway )

Yes. Although the likelihood of punishment varies on a scale from, say, Man City to Newcastle.

That's what you get with a predominantly middle-class fan base. Ripples of polite applause, disappointed tutting, or a shrug of the shoulders.

I’m a bit confused - if our defenders keep offering up big chances, why does it really matter who is the striker on the receiving end of them?

Sure it makes them more likely to score, so in that sense it matters - but it wouldn’t make it any more acceptable if they were making the very same big errors just for a poor opposing striker to miss them?

I think that’s the point that’s being put to you really. Even had Vardy and Maddison missed, that wouldn’t make it any better and we shouldn’t lose focus of that - it’s that kind of attitude that conditions some fans into thinking Cathcart, Kabasele, Mariappa et al have been, or continue to be, good enough.

Mistakes are mistakes - win, lose or draw. Goal or no goal. They aren’t lessened depending on the outcome. That’s the attitude the players, staff and club need to have. Sadly it hasn’t been for a long while.

I agree CC is not the best defender but he does ok with anyone bar WTE. He seems to be the the weak link and seems to bring chaos when he plays.
Brighton; poor pass to a marked Clevs when he could have played safe.
Southampton; not close enough to Adams, seemed to be asleep.
    Today; enough already been said.
Cannot play again for us at this level.
