It's impossible to play a long ball game on a pitch that looks like a swamp (town and stadium included). This in no way excuses the horrific performance yesterday, but when you have an injured GK who is literally throwing the ball to defenders from a standing position because we didn't have a clue what the game plan was, trying anything, even playing out from the back (which we cannot do very well on a decent pitch) is the least I would of expected us to do. However, the fact Luton just pressed us to death and recycled possession so easily I am very surprised they only scored three goals. That could of been 6 or 7, because we never got close to being a threat let alone score a goal.
I am so perplexed (an understatement) regarding the current incumbent occupying the striker position that I would like to ask forum members a question : Would Cole Stockton the biggest journeyman striker in the lower leagues with , at best , average goal\assist returns with the exception of one season who cannot get a game at Salford City, hve better stats if he played for us and given the same minutes as Bayo ? Serious question
Yep . Going long wasn't an option because Vakoun will be standing in a different postcode so the instruction should have been full Sunday league knock it towards the corner flag and pin them in .
No, although Bayo would’ve made a few more successful passes as I reckon Luton would’ve scored a couple more.
Overwieght Robbie Fowler, Glenn Murray and Steve Kabba would have a better strike rate than Bayo. He's scored one goal, which was a bit of a fluke volley. How many 1 on 1's has he missed? Whiffed it wide or over when through on goal or just fell over. Terrible footballer. My cousin used to idolize Fowler in the late 1990's. He was an excellent finisher in his prime. Him and Micheal Owen were quite a force. Now Owen bores you to death with his pundentry.
Yep. He scored a great goal against Derby but they don't impress me that much . it is the back post Aguerro style tap ins that do impress me . I used to be able to score regularly, at a very low level, but I do know that being able to send defenders to sleep in the penalty area is an art .
I could ask you the same question. I've not mentioned him or thought about him in months, so you bringing him up for no reason is very odd.
#utterly predictable response... In a funny sort of way, glad that you're still keeping in touch, hb1...
Yes they do as you say but then do they have more of a history violence wise than us? Yes I guess they all think it works if these managers end up like Kompany in getting one of the biggest jobs in world football. BTW on a different matter I don't think Boro or Sunderland fans think they were outfought or physically too weak for us. They probably went home thinking how did they lose.. We lost 4-1 to Norwich who are a very different team to Luton so the pitch and conditions cannot be an excuse.
Bayo just represents everything about Watford. Transferred in under a Bayat cloud at a time we needed to improve our first team in a deal that made no sense for us. Has been awful for us. 'Sold' to Udinese for more than double what we paid for him. Loaned back, for no good reason, continues to be terrible. I wonder what is in it for him, to be involved in all these shady deals? Do you think he gets a cut everytime Pozzo and Bayat shift some money around, using him as the packaging? This is the modern Watford. First team regular who probably doesn't even know what club he plays for and can't play football anyway.
Predictable because it's valid. Though I did just remember this post you made a month ago where you said: "HB1 has flounced (Pt 2) [...] lowerrous is, well, lowerrous" https://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/parking-for-home-matches.61171/#post-3372654 So in fact the only time I will have seen hb1 mentioned on here and thus had to give them any consideration in recent months was when you randomly brought them up. And in that post you were rightfully pointing out that hb1 has flounced, while by contrast I just continue to be myself on here. I'm still not entirely sure what you're even trying to say right now, but one way or another it seems an iffy attempt at contradicting your more fair summation last month.
Of course there are many reasons why travelling by supporters coach to an away game is something to be avoided at all costs, but if my memories of visiting the Kennel are anything to go by, you'd probably have had an even more unpleasant experience than you did had you gone under your own steam to Luton yesterday
He gets to play football at a level that's above him and presumably gets a contract matching that. Seems like a nice enough chap on the club videos and tries his best, not really his fault - if we were all offered a massive pay rise and allowed to keep our jobs despite being objectively **** at them, I'm sure we'd all make hay whilst we could. I'm not sure what's more laughable though, that we bought him for £5m in the first place or that we've supposedly "sold" him on to Udinese for £10m+ after his time here and everyone at both clubs is pretending it's a legitimate deal.
A dubious bunch of financial transactions is one thing but when these deals negatively affect the workings of the actual football team because Bayo has to play or be involved at some point in order for these dealings to remain under the radar then I would say that this is madness.
And you still get people saying stuff like 'it's smart business.' Gino can move money around and if it's good for him, then it's good for us.' Here, we can see, clearly, that what might be good for Gino, is not good for WFC.
Don’t forget the club loaned Bayo out two years ago after just half a season. So they KNEW he wasn’t good enough way back then, but somehow he’s still here!
Only in football could this occur. If his performances in tennis or golf or other team sports that don't have the wealth that football has,he would have a ranking of four figures. This would mean he wouldn't be earning money or significant money or in golf he would have lost his tour card. The greed and wealth in football has allowed average performers to become as rich as Croesus without any substance. The fact that Pozzo undertakes such dubious deals, not long since he pulled the same stunt with Kamara, taints us all. When is his trial?
It’s not that amazing. People hate to be wrong. Or admit that someone else told them they were wrong and they didn’t see it. We used to have a member who’d claim that we had ‘the best owners in football’, they flounced before admitting they weren’t. You have others who would rather leave the forum claiming ‘football disillusionment’ than admit that they got it wrong. Add to that the theatre going/day outery nature of our supporter base and there you have it. We have fans who applauded the team off after being destroyed 3-0 by our actual main rivals. LOL
Thing is, there's no way it can't affect the football team. You can't be signing the Kalus and Bayos of this world, who are nowhere near good enough for our team, for significant sums, then it not affect the team quality. That's £10m there, taken out of the club to spend on dross. What would we do with an actual £10m striker who was worth that, right now? OK, so the apologists will point to the £10m injection from Udinese in the summer - well where is that and why was it needed? The fact is, money is meaningless to a club like ours, when it is used to be spent on players we never needed and who aren't good enough, rather than to strengthen the team. We're a paper exercise of a club. An accounting column. An entity that can be used to store assets for a period of time before they're shifted on. The football team is a tertiary distraction.
He's here, but we are reportedly £5m up and Bayo probably got a wage increase signing for Udinese have flushed £10m down the pan, what's not to like about this!
Here we go. OK so where is that £5m? Which players can we sign for £5m? What £5m of improvements have we made to our squad/team?
Moderator - I have just received a message telling me that my comment has been edited .By way of explanation you say 'No need for that language'. Would you be kind enough to let me know the language used that you found offensive and have removed before others can be upset by it. Many thanks
I've just realised it was my reference to Luton as 'Little Islamabad'! How could that possibly offend anyone of any creed, race or colour?
You know that's not how this works. It will have gone to cover debt presumably? The only downside to the transaction as a whole is that we are still stuck with the useless lump unless you truly believe in the "one-big-pocket" theory, which i know you don't.
