Wanted by Valencia, now managed by our old gaffer Javi Gracia. From Twitter: Salva Gomez | Valencia is interested in signing Watford’s right-back Kiko Femenia, a Spanish player who knows La Liga and played with Javi Gracia. Conversations have already started between the two parties. His contract expires in 2021. https://t.co/h98GQXZh3R
If we get a bid that matches his value, I'd sell. As Gary Neville aptly pointed out, Femenia is not a defender.
Wouldn't be that much of a loss, although we are dangerously low on players that can play full-back and who aren't permanently crocked
Would he not? I don't think we can rely on Janmaat for anything which means our only options are Dawson and Mariappa, neither of which particularly fill me with confidence - especially in the attacking third which is a key part of a full-backs duties these days
I've always liked Kiko, and he's happy at the club, however, Championship football or Valencia......not a difficult choice really. He'd be good for us in the Championship, so I hope he stays. Can play in both left and right back, although not a natural defender at Premier League level he'd be excellent in the Championship. We do have cover though with Navarro and Janmaat.
The rumour says his contract is up next year but according to The Athletic it runs until 2024. It was reported in March of this year he'd signed an extension/new deal.
Couldn't play as a full back in the Championship, would get eaten alive. Could possibly play as a wide midfielder. When he was good, he was very good. When his confidence was low, he was appalling. As a free transfer signing he's probably on a reasonable wage so if we can get a couple of million for him and we can reinvest elsewhere.
Let's hope he's still able to pass his medical after that absolutely sickening looking injury yesterday.
Is Navarro actually any good? In fact, I'm not sure it's either fair to call him a footballer, as he's only played about 20 games in his career.
I like Kiko (there, I've said it) because he offers a useful outball from pressure and his close control and distribution when he's on form is better than that of any fullback we've ever had. He's not comfortable when wingers are played in behind him or in aerial battles but other teams seem to have CBs to cover those situations.
He’s a wing back... I think!? If we’re going 352 next year then keep him, if we’re 4 at the back then no square peg round hole
Can't stand him or his hair. For me he sums up a lot of the problems, not very good at anything, not good at his actual required job, converted to play a role that's not natural, very weak and a total shirker. Bye. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/18609593.javi-gracia-wants-watfords-kiko-femenia-valencia/
I think Janmaat signed a new 4 year contract only recently, so I would think he's certain to stay. Not too sure about Navarro to be honest. He was one that had some promise a couple of years ago, but has failed to live up to it. He'll probably go, but he's still on the books so worth keeping him in the conversation for now.
Janmaat is contracted until 2022 HB1. The deal was signed in February this year and he's been saying for a while he'll look to see it out then return to Holland. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...hand-new-deals-daniel-bachmann-daryl-janmaat/
Never recovered from being eaten alive in the cup final. He won't be much of a loss. Anyone thinking Janmaat is any better though needs to give their head a shake. He can't defend for **** either.
He's comfortably a better defender than Femenia. Is he a "good" defender? No. But he's better than Femenia and better on the ball and going forward as well.
Thought Femenia was technically good and was always willing to and loved to get forward...final ball more often than not let him down. Also would be caught on the lazy side getting back and couldn't defend for toffee generally. Not the worst in a bad bunch.
I wonder if the young right-back from West Ham with the name that wouldn't escape unharmed from my predictive text is still on the cards to join us?
It doesn't matter how good he is. He will never be fit to play. Might as well take a paid one year sabbatical and see the world.
With Poder a bit here, I would like him to stay. I'll admit not the best defender (no Doyley in a 1v1) but we've had worse, good technically, good pace and pushes forward well I think, linked well with Sarr on the overlap numerous times. Also played left back very well at times. Depends also upon what role we will expect our fullbacks to play this season. If both fit I think I prefer Janmaat but that isn't a dilemma we face that often. Exactly what level of fullback are we expecting to have in place for next season? Think it was documented that he had confidence issues in the past, I'd be happy to see him next season but if he goes then I wish him well. I wonder which better player we will replace him with?
Would be absolutely fantastic if he stays. He clearly cannot defend to save his life, definitely "gets forward well" despite his final ball being horrific and not contributing any goals or assists, hates tackling and has the bravery of a mouse, has a half decent game 1 in every 15, and suffers with football related anxiety. Exactly the sort of player we need for a long, hard slog in the Championship.
