If we can't rely on Gino to send Sema to Udinese and bring Deulofeu back home, then what's the point?
Clearly used tactically today to offer more protection to our defence and did an okay job in that regard. 3rd most tackles of anyone on the pitch, and joint most interceptions. Never looked capable though of getting the better of a very good right back in Emerson.
He’s not a dreadful player. He’s just not a Premier League level player. He was decent enough in the Championship and had a good season at Udinese. That’s his level. It’s not his fault he’s playing at a level the probably shouldn’t have reached. Good for him in getting there. It’s the squad builders who are responsible for who is on the roster.
I can’t fathom how he can be so slow and so weak at the same time, I mean he’s a terrible footballer as well, but just running alongside, and holding off other footballers is totally beyond him.
It's mental when he's almost 6 foot tall and pretty fucckin jacked to boot. Still not as weird as how often he just runs the ball out of play under very little pressure - and not even just over the touchline as he flies up the wing, but out to the side as he's trying to progress the ball. So, essentially, he can't kick the ball in a straight line in front of him.
This was my favorite part yesterday. He streaked clear into space with the ball, and just ran in a diagonal straight off the pitch with it. There was nobody near him. Just brilliant.
I think it's basically exactly the same as in NFL when the QB runs it and then realises he's gone about as far as he is going to be allowed to, so just sort of steps off the pitch to declare on his run.
It does make me laugh how many footballers love to show off how ripped they are but when it actually matters during a game of football they're weak as ****.
He's just another in a long line of players with fragile confidence levels that we seem to love hoovering up.
If we get some new signings in, it would seem a good move by the club, and in the best interests of the player, to get a championship loan deal done for this window. Allow Sema to play at a level that he can be more productive, get his confidence back up, chance of keeping his value up, puts him in the shop window and keeps him in the minds of the Swedish FA. At the moment, he is just providing clips for blooper videos.
He’s awful. We had better players when Dyche/Malky were managers. I do agree that the fact we have to “enjoy” him for another 3 seasons after this is a good example of the mind boggling ineptitude of the ownership.
He's absolute dog turd. He was OK at a push in the Championship and is absolutely appalling in this league. That was already proven years ago, but still some wouldn't have it. You judge players on the level they're playing at, and in this case it's more than fair enough to label Sema as dreadful.
Even taking into account the far superior quality of the opposition, I just can't work out how he managed as many as five goals and five assists last season. You could argue he's suffered from still not playing in the trio with Pedro and Sarr that was reasonably effective last season, but even I'll have to admit that excuses for him are wearing very thin. Early in the season he looked like he could be useful enough as a sub with better decision making, but now I have the feeling he'd struggle in the Championship if we go back down and he's the best part of a year older.
Not really. He was mostly bang average at that level as well. I suppose if we go down and our ambition is nothing more than to finish mid-table at best he might be OK as a squad option, yeah.
This would make a lot more sense if we hadn't got promoted comfortable with Sema playing an important role less than 12 months ago.
"Important". The man scored 5 goals and got 5 assists in the Championship. Let's not pretend that's at all impressive, especially in a team that finished 2nd. If he was "important" it's because he was simply a body and our only proper left sided wide player, not because his talent or abilities were vital to our success or even close to being irreplaceable. Sema was in no way vital to our promotion or one of our stand out players last season. Put any other starting Championship winger in his place and we'd still have gone up.
Our fans just cannot accept that some of our players are flat out crap. There's always an excuse, there's always an imaginary silver lining. Putting Sema on a 5 year deal probably was good business to some, because even though he's an embarrassment at this level (despite the usual suspects saying he was more than good enough as a squad option), he might be semi useful in the Championship again if we go back down. Apparently. Wonderful. Get Gosling, Cathcart and Troost new deals as well.
Agree to disagree. Think he played an important role over his 41 apps (not just in terms of goals and assists) and he'd potentially play an important role again at that level if needed.
I don't think those who have pointed out other much bigger clubs have had a worse decade than us have ever said that means Gino should be absolved for giving out unnecessary contracts or not investing in the defence. Don't think this recurring punchline works particularly well.
I don't see a single quality he has that stands out as any way irreplaceable in the Championship. A slow winger with little technical ability who puts out very average numbers in terms of goals and assists even at that level. Completely replaceable. Our insistence on sticking with the same failed, stale players season on season is why we are back in this position again. Premier League or Championship, the likes of Sema can go away.
Not sure I ever made any suggestion whatsoever that he was irreplaceable? Simply suggested that (imo!!!!) he's a good player at that level, and made a good contribution to our promotion with his workrate, defensive work and decent GA output. His pace isn't as much of an issue and clogger Championship RBs. Agree that it's a shambles we still have certain faces still making regular starts, but personally don't have a problem with players like Sema/Cathcart etc padding out a squad, as long as we're looking at long term replacements for them. Hopefully Pollock/Baah can be those replacements.
I'd loan him to Udinese this month if it means we can get an upgrade in. Then if Udinese want to keep him and he wants to stay then great, if not he can come back to play in the Championship again or we can look to cash in.
Let’s look at the main protagonists on this thread. @NathWFC who despises or hates most players. @Jumbolina who uses this thread to have a go at the owners exactly like he does in most threads. Seems fairly balanced!!!
