I feel like I'm watching his body break down in real time. He'll be forced into retirement by 32.

People seem to think he offers good hold up play purely because he is a unit .

His hold up play is poor, and he is lazy .

Pretty sure Araujo won more flick ons in the time he was on by simply leaping rather than a glorified shrug jump.

Pretty much first time all season he got his head on a cross right in the middle of the six yard box but of course, he headed it wide.

    He's shiiiiiiiiiite.

Awful footballer, gone downhill since the Luton game. Honestly think Bayo would have scored half the chances presented to Davis.

He’s amongst the worst ‘strikers’ I’ve ever seen in a Watford shirt. Dreadful but somehow manages to get worse every week.

There is a mix of things going on. I don't for one second think he's happy with his own performances, let alone his lack of goals. Players go through rough patches

What I take great issue with is that he clearly isn't putting in anywhere near his maximum. Whether that's because he's just given up, or perhaps he was good mates with Hause?

It's a baffling regression, and it's something that gets completely ignored by Bilic for some reason. Allowing him to be an undisputed pick is making him lazier not hungrier

As a Watford fan I don’t mind a player of limited ability but plays his heart out ( Choudry) And I can forgive a talented player who is lazy but impacts games (Sarr).
But I can’t forgive a player who is sh1t and is lazy, stroppy and doesn’t do his job (Davis)

Laziness is unforgivable full stop. Maximum effort is the minimum requirement and so many of the squad aren’t giving it.

There was one time yesterday when a pass was overhit and the ball appeared to be drifting out where Davis started to run after it , stopped , then started to run again and had he not paused he may have reached the ball in time . Which is so low level Sunday league. Also there was a moment when JP and the keeper both went for a cross and both missed it and Davis was on his heels at the back post . A fox in the box type player would have gobbled that chance up. The bottom line is is that he lacks the anticipation a striker needs to be able to score plenty of goals as a striker would think "how can I score from this point?" and in a split second he would say to himself that JP and the GK will both miss the ball and move to anticipate this scenario and score.

In our promotion season of 2021/22 Andre Gray got 5 goals in 1273 minutes.
Bayo managed 4 goals in 926 minutes.

So far this season Davis has 4 goals in 1678 minutes and seemingly his body shuts down after 60 minutes.

    Another dud.

At that rate we can expect as many as 2 or 3 more goals from him this season.
Sensible clubs don’t pay ‘strikers’ to strike that infrequently… do they?

He definitely would've. I remember the incident you were talking about and presumed there'd been a whistle but it appears his thought process for those couple of seconds was 'better run after that, nah can't be arsed, oh look I could've kept that in better show willing, ah well who cares?'.

Worst striker competition is too close to call however in Davis defence his general play is far better than Gray or Bayo IMO. Although game intelligence is seriously lacking from what I have seen

But it counts for nothing. “His general play is better” yet he is on zero assists. Amazingly we’ve managed to regress from the days of Deeney and Gray.

I cannot disagree although Troy did offer the "out ball" option and did chip in with a goal or two .
Davis Gray or Bayo do not score enough goals . We are on the same page with this .
Davis is technically better than the other 2 , IMO

Was it a penalty on him or just eased off the ball?

Seems to be "fouled" a lot but not get many given - another with a reputation for going down easily like Sarr then?

He's unbelievably bad in the air for someone who's 6"3. Only Martins and Dele-Bashiru have a worse aerial win % for us this season (with Sema and Asprilla also having a 35% aerial win rate)

This is the utterly bonkers thing about it all. We could have Deeney and Gray at the club on vastly reduced deals now, and hence not have the financial issues we had with them at the point they left, and we’d actually be better of from a striking talent point of view, absolutely insanity. We’ve managed to do something so horrendously bad with our striking options this season, it’s that bad that if you didn’t know any different you’d have to think it can only have been done purposefully.

If Deeney & Gray were still at the club and on 4 goals each for the season a lot of fans would be going ape **** yet they continue to give Davis all the excuses in the world.

Least Deeney had the excuse of being injured or just past his best .

Gray was just focused on other things and was probably sub more often than not.

Davis is 25 and looks less and less likely to score each game .

Suspect at that age the other 2 at least probably knew how to find the net.

Please don't batter me for this unpopular view but he was magnificent against Norwich away until injured which seems to have been forgotten. I'm not excusing him some very ropey performances especially of late but his injuries and subsequent illnesses seem to have marked his season throughout. I wouldn't want to speculate but he has rarely looked in the peak of condition all season, I witnessed his immobile worst at Bramall Lane so I was as frustrated as anyone. But...but...in my view there is a very good player in there and worth persisting with, which I rarely thought when watching Andre Gray even when he scuffed and shinned in his mis-hits. Do we attempt to play to his strengths and seek to pick him out enough when well placed? That might be about our injured midfield as much as anything.

    No, not worth it.
When the midfield are ready to play the ball he is often offside.
When he is not played the ball he moans at everyone.
When he has the ball he is generally selfish and does not pass to others in better positions.
    Not a team player.

He was great at Norwich and at home against the filth. That's about it for the season. If there is a good player in there he is taking his time showing it given he is 25 and scored 12 goals in his career.
