Fluminense has forwarded the sale of 19-year-old defender Kayky Almeida to Watford, in England. The negotiation is in the final phase and should be closed at €1 million, around R$6 million, for 80% of the player. Flu takes 20%. The young man never played for the professional. Kayky had a contract until the end of 2027. https://x.com/Victorg_Lessa/status/1816488445386113259 Journalist from Fluminese seems to believe that we're signing a 19 year old defender off them
Only three mins into his YouTube highlights and I am all in. Goalscoring left footed centre back who loves a tackle and has a great long pass...
Would be a Hoedt replacement if we're buying him, we won't be buying a left footed CB for depth as Tikvic is that already.
Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a deal that’s done but he stays there for a period of time - perhaps comes over next summer when Tivkic loan ends/Hoedt deal is ends. I can see the train of thought - but I’d be very surprised if we replaced the experienced captain with a 19yr old Brazilian who hasn’t played a senior game before. Makes Tikvic look experienced!
Just took a look at their squad. That's some bad succession planning by Fluminese - ahead of him in the pecking order is Melo (41 years old...), Thiago Santos (35), Thiago Silva (40), Manoel (34). Least Marlon (29) and Felipe Andrade (22) are better ages but no idea how they've: A) got so many CBs B) why they're all so old.
From my initial analysis I think it's possible that he'll not be as cacky as Kike but perhaps as shaky as Jakey (Livermore).
I'm guessing the Brazilian league is slower, what with it being a hot country where they play basically a billion games all year round!
Ideally this guy probably stays at Fluminense for a season playing a bit of first team football there, or we send him on loan to League Two, then he stays here the following season to be understudy to (contract extended) Hoedt for another season or two, before being ready to then replace him once he finally leaves. He looks promising in the highlights, but yeah, can't imagine he goes from having never played a senior game in Brazil to suddenly starting for us in the Champ.
Live a little! I'm bored of our current squad, let's chuck some random Brazilian in on the basis of his highlights against other kids.
We're so broke we can only buy 80% of a player now - just the neck down. Better start a GoFundMe for the rest.
It’s encouraging to see we are still getting players through the South American connections as it’s one of the areas we’ve done quite well with in the past. Fingers crossed he comes good at some future point.
Pray it doesn't get to the point we have to use LEGO to build our players. Saying that, at least fixing a hammy will be as easy as getting a few bricks the same colour as the previous ones.
It does seem like their fans aren’t happy with this, a lot of them saying he’s got loads of potential. Potential won’t keep us up but he could be a handy signing as long as we get a first choice centre back in as well.
Has Pozzo got some dirt on the Fluminese director or something? We seem to get their decent young talent for relatively low fees.
Does 20% ownership extend to anything other than a portion of his sponsorships and 20%sell on clause? Or am I off the ball here?
