Or, god forbid, some people actually have different opinions from you? There's no objective right or wrong when it comes to footballers' performances.

And posting "good riddance" as a dozen or so of the less constructive posters have done on this thread regarding a player who might have done a job for us next season is the epitome of adult maturity, I suppose?

He wasn't drifting all the time, he still had to get back outside to follow QSF's instructions, and that was the crux of the problem.

In some ways a winger (especially when at nearly 30 when you're losing a bit of athleticism and have never played there before, IIRC anyway regarding Jurado) is much more demanding than a central attacking midfielder. You have to get back and defend a lot more (at least he would have had one of Capoue, Watson or Behrami and/or one of the centre backs to do the job), play on the overlap, keep the ball in play in a much more limited area of the pitch under more pressure, deliver decent crosses and do a job offensively and defensively against both opposition wingers and full/wing backs. Given that those are things that Jurado hasn't learnt to consistently excel at, it's not surprising he struggled over there. This often left him in two minds as whether to stay more central and concentrate on what's he's best at, keeping possession and spreading the ball wide in and around the penalty area but risk incurring Flores' wrath if he stayed there for too long, or get back to his less favoured position and struggle to plug the gap left by his absence due to his lack of pace (due to height and age). With all that it was not surprising he tended to fade in games even when he was at his best, as such a job would have left him quite knackered both physically and mentally.

The criticism that he didn't track back or tackle as often as people would have liked is a valid one (and I was just as infuriated as anyone at Norwich, where he was at his shirking worst), but I'm not sure whether it's laziness or a fundamental character flaw so much as an inherent cultural trait of where he comes from. Spanish teams aren't generally renowned for their great defensive play - Spain won three tournaments in a row through a wealth of world class attacking players who are among the best at keeping the ball, but when they don't have so many players of that calibre and teams aren't afraid to have a go at them, their frailities become apparent, as shown in the last two tournaments and most of their history before Euro 2008. But Jurado played a number of games for the international youth teams, including up to U21 level, scoring a fair few goals, so he's clearly no mug, much as many people like to claim the contrary.

It'd be interesting to see how he and Flores perform at Espanyol, given they finished in the same position as us but with a much worse defence, they normally finish around midtable with the odd Europa League qualification - might be a surprise package like West Ham last season or Fulham when they qualified for the EL under Hodgson with Jurado being a vital contributor, stranger things have happened in football.

This post hits the nail on the head and should shut up the Jurado detractors once and for all, this is the kind of analysis you can only usually find on the excellent WDSport. Jurado had to learn how to run up and down the line so obviously he was going to be tired and not play that well, plus he's not that tall and in his late 20s. And you can't really complain about not tracking back as he's Spanish and they don't really do that too much.

People need to consider these factors that aren't always obvious rather than just blindly looking at goals, assists and performances. Well said, LondonOrn!

Yes, it was a good analysis. Mitigating factors, but they don't alter the fact that he was a passenger in most games, a massive disappointment, and didn't deserve his place in the team.

Adios Jurado. Looking forward to seeing him pass sideways and backwards when Espanyol are on TV, and the Espanyol chaps going for those 0-0 draws.

Well, he may be a fan of Espanyol, who are based in Barcelona, so I can see his disappointment.

You could see he had talent, whether it was QSF's tactics or his inability to adapt to the Premier League or both we will never know, however having just turned 30 it's really just as well he's off. If he was 5 years or more younger then a lot more people may have given him the benefit of the doubt.

If Quique was as good a manager as say Eddie Howe, then I think Jurado would have been up there as one of the best players in the league last year.
