Great player, I'm convinced if he'd had a regular run playing in the position that suits him then he'd have been a fans favourite. Sticking him on the left wing was baffling and stupid.

We got an undisclosed fee for him, which is exactly what we paid for him.

Hope we have a buy back clause. If not I think we should make a cheeky loan bid if things are looking grim come January.

I think we've had more than our fair share of small, talented-but-useless footballers over the years. No more now please.

Much better than Forestieri, but was just never gonna work out. Shame but we move on.

Marginally more "talented", immeasurably less effective.

I'm pretty sure Forestieri couldn't possibly have failed to contribute more last season. Like, a single goal, or one little league assist...

Amazing how we expected him to be such a better playing by playing in a position a couple yards more to the right or left. Could learn a thing or two from Deeney about playing anywhere on the pitch, never earned the right to play CAM.

    Enjoy ******* QSF's **** at Espanyol. Cheerio!

Thank ****. He was useless. The worst bit was his lack of tracking back and constant backing out of challenges.

    Good riddance.

Deeney literally used to play out of position and looked crap. Weird comparison.

Everyone saw the difference when he was played in the middle, but he never really got an extended chance. Ah well. Easy couple of bites on the Forestieri post, too.

Deeney still looked good out wide from my memory, he adjusted well

He looked awful when played out wide. Totally ineffective - because he isn't a winger.

He wasn't very good for us, even taking into account that he wasn't playing in his best position. Alongside his beige performances, I think there were two other things that turned opinion against him, neither of which were his fault.

Firstly, he was shown real favouritism by QSF - not having to learn the system for a couple of months like other players, coming straight back into the team after injury, not being dropped when clearly out of form and low on confidence. Secondly, certain people kept insisting he was playing well even when it was clear he wasn't, using pointless stats or claiming some higher understanding of football to back their point up.

  32. Hmmm. I thought Deeney rarely looked crap, particularly when played out of position. I don't think criticisms were of his performance, just people wandering WTF he was doing at right back when we were notionally trying to win a game. He is, tales of minor deity put aside, a player who will do a job for you almost anywhere you put him on the pitch.

The thing that made him look crap was the head coach's unfathomable tactics.

TBF, I would mostly agree with you about Jurado and would have liked to see him play under a coach who valued his abilities rather than simply knew of them; but sadly, even with that said, his lack of passion (admirable in some players with a clinical method) and lack of achievement mean that I could not suggest letting him go, even for a possible substantial loss, was anything less than reasonable.

I assume the Deeney out of position thing was referring to the Mackay years where he was put out wide rather than a couple of times QSF had him drop deep last season.

I got quite emotional reading WDSports' excellent return to reporting on the Jurado story, I could almost hear the sadness in their words. It's such a shame that he was never really given a chance as he could have been a Watford legend. It was pretty obvious that he was the most gifted player ever to play for Watford and everyone knows that top class players sometimes need up to two whole seasons to bed in. Can't help but think we'll live to regret this one, but at least the professional sports writers at WDSports could see his contribution, even if most of the boo boy fans couldn't.
