A lot of painful memories in there...

Over 9 minutes of nothing but PL goals. If he can get a 5 minute highlight reel in his time here I'll be more than happy.

He looks like the perfect combination of Gray and Deeney's good points. He also looks about 15 in most of those highlights so he's probably gone to seed since, but I will hold out hope until after he's fluffed his lines in a preseason game.

Happened to watch that yesterday, struck me that he was more of a poacher than anything else - certainly no bad thing. Hardly any (may have been none at all?) headed goals. Not many 'finesse' goals either, so more of a get on the end of something and the occasional hit it and hope type goals. He did get a few from 2nd balls from set plays (mainly corners) looked like a planned routine was used a few times by our friends on the south coast where he ran in from deep to the back post.

You mean a lot of tap-ins and penalties?

I'm not too impressed by those highlights.

Composed in front of goal which is crucial at this level.

Will make a lot of goals with his movement and pace.

Don't really understand anyone that hates on this signing. Especially on a free!

My only worry is do we have the backup to actually put the ball through to him or create something.

On a free transfer I don’t think we could really have expected more. The club is obviously in a financial hole, and I’m more than happy with this and taking a more prudent approach to our business over the next 24 months. I think the right approach should be to sign players like Louza for decent fees with the hope they develop and move on. Add in a few experienced frees here and there and we will be a bit of a bubble team but probably quite happy with our lot in the footballing world.

    King > Deeney
    Fletcher > Gray
    Cucho > Sema
    Dennis > Zinckernagel

This is presumably what the club is hoping and it's probably not unreasonable. The only question is whether or not that's going to be enough given how low the top two in particular set the bar last season.

I've been dreaming of a Watford goalscorer who regularly gets in the right positions for tap-ins.

We do already have one of those in Gray, but the issue is he misses most of them.

I’ve always thought of a bubble team as being a bit on the edge. Might stay up a couple of years, have a cup run or two, bubble pops gets relegated but usually fairly adept at getting back up inside seasons. West Brom used to be fairly adept at it back in the day and more recently teams like Norwich. They never seem to put their clubs future on the brink and give fans enough entertainment to go back.
I’d be happy with that. Don’t get me wrong i would love for us to qualify for Europe one day, but with the way football is I don’t see it happening unless some sheik takes a fancy to little old Watford.

On paper, that's almost certainly all true, and in addition while I bet our main central defensive partnership will be the same as last season, they're better than 19/20. Unfortunately, Deulofeu, Doucoure and Capoue are almost impossible to replace, and the standard of the Prem has shot up. Villa were woeful in their first season back, we didn't have an excellent Leeds side to contend with, and even teams like Newcastle don't look like being near the relegation places when they have a fully fit squad to choose from. Absolutely snap your hand off for 17th place right now and another grim survival fight!

Surely a "bubble team" in the post covid era is just any group of players who have to isolate if one of them tests positive.

He scored 3 in the FA Cup. He also only made 7 starts during the whole season for Bournemouth and Everton.

I'm not taking last season into consideration at all. Last Summer he was a 13m+ forward. Wilson got his move and performed for some reason King didn't and we all know full well how unhappy players can perform for clubs. Capoue for instance. King is leaps and bounds ahead of any of our central options currently, he just needs the opportunity to play as a proper number 9. Hopefully all three of the frontline will be very interchangeable and this can only be a positive.
