No Im not at all. Im saying the circumstantial evidence is circumstantial and the facts are facts. Which part is defamatory?

  2. You are heavily implying that Pozzo is fraudulently rinsing the club of cash via a money launderer. Particularly your last comment. I'd say that is sailing close to the wind. Unless you want to state in terms that you don't think this is the case. And I don't think the "some might say" defence washes.

My defence would be that I'm raising concerns about the club's finances and Id use the defences of justification, fair comment and public interest. Id also claim that I haven't damaged Gino's reputation. It would be fun to hear a judge make a ruling on what Gino Pozzo's reputation currently is!! I mean his close business associate is up on money laundering charges, another associate provided a fake bank statement as proof of funds to the EFL and his dad was found guilty of match fixing in italy so I dont think his reputation is too high anyway.

This reads an awful lot like you have just read the defences to defamation on Wikipedia.

I have my issues with Pozzo, and in particular with the Bayat business (where I think some of those defences you raise may well be more relevant), but your original post is full blown conspiracy theory based on nothing but conjecture.

I doubt Gino really cares about conspiracy theories on forums, but the fact that he allegedly has bad reputation would not serve to prevent him from bringing a claim in respect of specific actionable comments.

I am going through this thread now and will delete any posts inferring to the finances of the club. Be very careful with how you phrase your posts and any accusations you throw out. Not just this thread, in general.

Keep the thread on the relevant topic.

They were deleted a few days ago. Along with the comments where you used a derogatory term about disabled people and used the word 'rape' to frame another odd point.

And now accusing Mods of being lap-dogs purely because they have to go through threads tidying up your weird diatribes.

We will see. Our debt is higher and our assets are higher. Let’s see what happens. I’m a pessimist by nature but not as pessimistic as some on here clearly!

If you have another try at reading that sentence, you should see that it is not a reference to any specific comment. I was merely explaining that his alleged reputation would not serve to bar any claim (unless the comments made refer to specific conduct from which that reputation arose).

I would say though that the tin-foil hat comments you made connecting drug related money laundering in Colombia with Gino and Mogi Bayat were sailing pretty close to the wind were they not so risible.

There are relevant concerns regarding Bayat, and people who are not so well informed about them may well lump those in with your bonkers theories.

There is Clarke. Still no sign of getting him in. You've missed the point. Fuxbury said lessons have been learnt. They'll have input from the manager. Do you think RE has had any input into signings and what he wants ? Aside from sidelining those he doesn't want already in the squad. I'm sure RE would have had other priorities before signing in Hurtado.

All Gino seems capable of is bringing in a bright attacker because they can be sold on or not as with Penaranda for a large sum. There is no focus on developing the squad depth in terms of age and potential. By depth we're not looking at just the forward line but midfield and defence. If we had a balanced transfer forward thinking policy we would not be in the mess we are squad wise.

Do you really think signing Hurtado takes any focus away from the task of signing a CB?

Pozzo signs promising South Americans on an almost yearly basis in the background, with largely positive outcomes. It's one of the few things we actually do well in the transfer market.

    Because it triggered my interest...

Young players Watford have signed from South America:

Cucho Hernandez - signed as a 17 year old in 2016 for £200k, sold for £9m-ish in 2022

Jaime Alvarado - signed as an 18 year old in 2016 on a free transfer, released in 2022

Valber Huerta - signed as a 22 year old in 2016 on a free transfer, sold for £400k in 2018

Richarlison - signed as a 20 year old for £11m in 2017, sold for £35-40m-ish in 2018, plus £1m-ish from sell on in 2022

Eduardo Montenegro - signed as an 18 year old in 2017, sold/released in 2018

Jorge Segura - signed as a 20 year old on a free transfer in 2017, still at the club, out on another loan.

Luis Suarez - signed as a 19 year year old on a free transfer in 2017, sold for £6.5m in 2020, plus a further £2.5m sell on earned in 2022

Pervis Estupinan - signed as a 19 year old on a free transfer in 2017, sold for £15m in 2020

Juan Becerra - signed as an 18 year old on a free transfer in 2017, left on a free transfer in 2020

João Pedro - signed as an 18 year old in 2020 for £3.6m, now valued at anywhere between £15m-£50m, depending on who you ask!

Yaser Asprilla - signed as an 18 year old for £2.7m in 2021

Citation needed on a couple of those due to lack of information available but that's...

    Transfer fees out: £17.5m

    Transfer fees in: £73m-ish

Profit: £55.5m, plus whatever we eventually sell JP and Asprilla for.

It doesn't take focus away because the focus wasn't there to begin with.

Window after window we accumulate players for Ginos shop window that have nothing to do with our playing needs.

If we had shown that we were able to build a strong side whilst Gino trafficked Latinx kids, that would be another matter.

We'll see, when it comes to this window.

Completely agree we neglected our defence over a period of 3/4 years and it's the main reason we're in the position we're currently in.

    Three others off the top of my head;
Matheus Aias (definitely received a fee, something in region of £500,000-£650,000 I think)
Matheus Santana (freebie to CD Don Benito)
Williams Velásquez (released, now playing back in Venezuela).

In the period I posted above (2016-2022), we built sides strong enough to finish 17th, 14th and 11th in the Premier League. Plus an FA Cup final and promotion from the Championship.

Better defensive recruitment would have kept us up imo, but we didn't do too bad, even with the massive distraction of signing a dozen or so South American kids.

    Argh! We've forgotten these;

Juergen Elitim (currently on loan at Real Racing Club de Santander)
Ober Almanza (currently on loan at Independiente Santa Fe)

and another who is on a pre-contract
Sebastián Cortes Perlaza (currently at the Udinese Colombia academy)

    I think that's all I have!

Why would you think buying a South American footballer and transferring them to a European club to further their career, count as child trafficking?

I take this as a big positive for Watford.

It’s what BIG CLUBS do - hoover up young talent most of whom will ‘never-play-for-(insert name of big 6 etc club).’

It’s evidence we use ‘big club’ strategy to further the financial interests of our smaller club.

The observation that most are from South America is mute.
( And your comment about child trafficking bizarre)

Our owners have shown that our team's needs are not their priority. They sign a ragtag bunch of players for their wheeling and dealing and hope that some of them can be cobbled into a team by whomever is in charge.

The way our young players are shunted around, regardless of their interests is despicable. We treat young players like cattle, shipping them all over the place, often without consultation and with no notice. It's reprehensible, but I'm sure the eternal benefit of the doubt will be given, despite revelation after revelation, because our fans are weirdos.

The big clubs tend to sell these players on for healthy profits and also insert extremely low buy-back clauses to cover themselves.

We didn’t even make a penny in loan fees in our last accounting period.

  35. WatfordTalk

    WatfordTalk First Team

As above, we do sell for healthy profits. When we do so, we usually sell to clubs bigger than ourselves. It would make no sense to try for a buy-back clause, for a player that has moved on to a bigger club.
