He could easily yeah — Piroe is more of a 10/second striker. I’m with you that we should go for an Archer/Vydra type. Semenyo whilst not in the same mould — could become that. Shame he’s injured
It's a good characteristic to have as a footballer especially when a lot end up in the back of the net. But then again you've probably seen more of him than me. Personally I like the look of him and it's not often you see a Championship striker who hits the ball so cleanly with both feet, seems very composed and is a fantastic age.
I agree on his ball-striking, though even if the number of wonder strikes fell slightly he'd also get more chances at a better club than Swansea were last season. I do reckon he could have a similar season again - watching his goals back he seems very deliberate with his finishing, he's really someone who picks out a spot and then finds it.
I think we should just convince Villa to give us Archer on a perm. Would probably be in this price bracket too. Did fairly well at Preston but excelled for England u21 and is very young.
I'd be happy if we get this over the line. Don't matter to me if his sole job is scoring if that's what he does well.
The Voices of the Vic qouted earlier 'The Swans need to raise funds to plug a financial hole, with piroe prime candidate to be sold this summer".
My mistake, I didn't read all of the comments properly, I just assumed you were talking abot Piroe due to the title of the thread.
Apparently we’ve made a formal inquiry and value Piroe at £8m but Swansea want more. https://the72.co.uk/2022/06/24/report-reveals-watfords-valuation-of-swansea-city-striker-piroe/
No surprise we offer half of what they value him at. Just because we undersell good players, it doesn't mean others will follow suit.
Swansea won’t get £16m for Piroe though. Don’t think a PL club will come in for him and who else will spend that money. They also need to make a sale each year to get by that’s how their club works. Seems a pretty reasonable first offer and as I said earlier I think if we are going to spend 10m+ on someone, it probably shouldn’t be Piroe. I reckon 12-14m would get him. Still not sure it’s wise.
FFS, if they value him at £10 mil according to that article then if we're serious about the player , just offer the £10 mil. We're always got to try and low ball the other club. I suppose our next bid will be £8.1 mil. If we cant afford the extra 2 mil then we should be going after more realistic targets amd stop wasting everyones time
Matt Grimes mk2. With hindsight I wonder if they regret turning down the similar fee we supposedly offered them for him?
It could be that £8mil was just our opening offer, with it seeming like an eventual offer of £10mil will do the trick. I'd still be amazed if we actually offered that for one player though.
I don’t think the article is actually saying that £10m is their valuation. The £10m is just speculation on the author’s part, and the author of that article isn’t even the one with source, he’s just parroting the Swansea Independent and then editorialising.
Actually don’t mind that we’ve done that. At the end of the day we’re a bigger club than Swansea and Piroe will see us as big step up in his career with the chance of Premier League football. Swansea’s financial side is that of always needing to sell one or two star players each window. Bottom line is Swansea know they need to sell Piroe this window. Can’t see anyone wanting to spend more than £12mil on him. So our offer of £8mil as a starting bid to test the waters is about right. Let’s the player know that a bigger club than the one he is currently at is interested in him. His agent will know him leaving comes with a nice little bonus. The article states his agent is refusing to talk about a contract renewal so with only 2 years left, if Swansea want any type of decent fee, it’s now or at the very latest January. In order for them to continue to strengthen though, they have to sell. If we really are interested, and Edwards has marked him as an option he wants, I can see us upping the bid. Swansea will also want a settle squad, us being showing our interest will certainly turn his head and he would jump at the chance to join us.
Why? They value him at £10m but may accept less. Why not try and get him for less. How annoyed would everybody be if we bought for £10m but somebody ITK says we could have got him for £8m. We probably value Dennis at £25-£30m but would we accept £20-£24m? Very possibly
Yes, and I have done. If it’s the one you really want and you know there are other bidders, then you get in quick and get it done.
Cant see there being too many other bidders at £16m as I said earlier. Per that reports as well we are yet to bid, it just said that we have made an enquiry and appear to value him at £8m.
We're about the same in terms of support base and last 15 years achievement though they won a cup didn't they ? Short term we have the parachute money advantage but the prem league cost-base / deadwood disadvantage.
Encouraging that we would offer £8m. Not encouraging that we are prepared to spend it on this guy rather than a vydra/phillips/defore type striker.
Maybe this chap is of a few we're looking at. If you've paid the full asking price without testing the water you've probably lost money
