Fancy choosing a company that doesn't even have a screen in Watford. I wonder how many people watched it at the Odeon Wakefield? :dismay:
Its insane. I'm at 1850 and its been snowing non-stop all day. So much powder on the slopes and they were dead all day. Don't wanna come home tomorrow! Treated myself to some bad weather Okaley A frames today, what a purchase, love them
I got the DVD through the post this morning and have just finished watching it. Got goosebumps on a number of occassions. I thought it was a tremendous film and although I knew the basics of Jay's rise through football, they explain in great detail what and how it happened and it is such a great story that is very moving. I'd reccommend it to absolutely anyone! Loved it!
Why is it? It's like the film 'goal' but a real like person. His sheer determination is very inspirational and if you see the film you may have a change of heart.

DeMerit reportedly popped the question on a cliff while the couple was hiking in Pemberton near McIvor’s hometown of Whistler over Thanksgiving weekend. DeMerit joked on Twitter that she said yes even though he is currently sporting a mullet hairstyle. “You know when you propose to your girlfriend with a mullet and she says YES, she's the girl for you. So happy!! Love u @ashleighmcivor!,” DeMerit tweeted. Congratulations to Jay and his partner, he was a brilliant find by Watford, a brilliant man with a truely inspiring story. One of my fav players to put on the Watford shirt.
Best wishes to Jay and Mrs. DeMerit to be. I had the good fortune to run into Jay's uncle/aunt once over here in a professional capacity; they were extraordinarily nice people. I told them he'd be a US international one day (before he was called up) and they seemed surprised to hear me say that.
66,000? Nice work. Hopefully football can overtake baseball in popularity over there one day. Shocking sport, baseball..
My parents saw him when they visited Vancouver over the summer...very popular in Canada and clearly famous.
Both - they were in the media a lot maybe because the girlfriend was a Olympic champion rather than due to DeMerit being a footballer.
Ohh sorry I totally forgot that he plays for Vancouver. Yep I can understand why they are well known. They're going to have some sporty blond babies aren't they?
One important factor is that you can equip a whole soccer team for the cost of equipping one hockey or American football player. Plus it is a far superior conditioning sport than hockey, football or baseball.
Your point still stands, but soccer is expensive nonetheless. For instance, I coach a U10 team here in Houston. Each player has to pay $175 to sign up for the season - which lasts over a 10-12 week period. Clearly the other sports are more expensive, but they are also more fashionable and receive lots of sponsors from the local community - soccer not so much. It's cheaper no doubt, but still relatively expensive for parents to put their kids into.
DeMerit Retires This may be of passing interest to some: VANCOUVER - Vancouver Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit will announce his retirement Thursday, The Canadian Press has confirmed. A person with knowledge of the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Whitecaps will hold a news conference to announce that DeMerit, Vancouver's first-ever Major League Soccer signing, is retiring after three-plus seasons with the team. DeMerit struggled with injuries in the 2013 and 2014 campaigns, Most recently, the centre back tore a tendon in his left ankle in a 3-3 draw with the Philadelphia Union on June 12. He was expected to miss six-to-eight weeks. Related Stories Vancouver soccer star set to retire Photos Jay Demerit He played 11 games this season — all as a starter. He missed most of 2013 with a torn Achilles tendon suffered in the season opener against Toronto FC in early March. Two days after suffering the injury at B.C. Place Stadium, he sought to reassure fans by tweeting a photo of himself in his hospital bed while preparing to go into surgery. After months of rehabilitation with a physiotherapist, DeMerit returned to the lineup in mid-September and played eight games near the end of the season. The successful rehab effort earned him a new contract from the Whitecaps in January of this year after he and the club took a wait-and-see approach with his recovery. DeMerit, a 34-year-old Green Bay, Wisc., native who was signed by the Whitecaps in 2010 when Vancouver was preparing to enter MLS, also played for the English soccer club Watford for six seasons. He also played 25 international games with the United States, including starting in four matches at the 2010 World Cup. Known for strong defensive and leadership skills, positive attitude and unselfish approach to the game, DeMerit posted one goal and one assist in 71 career games — 69 of which he started — with the Whitecaps. He logged a total of 5,928 minutes during his MLS career. He also gained notoriety off the pitch by marrying former Canadian Olympic skier Ashleigh McIvor last summer. Disappointing for him. Very young to retire. His goal to set up the big win v Leeds in Cardiff was my highlight of his time with us.
Coming up to 35 years of age, shame he only played for around 8 years full time with all the injuries he had. Been a great ambassador for the the 'caps and shows what happens when you don't give up and keep trying to make your dream happen. He done Watford proud in his spell with us and as said above was the catalyst for the wonderful day in Cardiff.
