[NOT HAPPENING] Ivan Toney

Toney would have been a great signing if we lost Suarez, but they are both too good to be sitting on the bench in the championship. Especially with the potential to bring back Cucho in January.

I think there are other areas money could be better spent e.g. the wide areas or at centre back.

 

Can't imagine he would be coming in to play second fiddle to Watkins so yes.

 

A weird one, as Watkins has a release clause of £18m which isn't that much in this day and age, yet nobody seems willing to reach it. Benrahma and all the other talented players they have are also still there, this transfer window is slooooow

 

With Toney going to Brentford and no apparent outgoings.....they will be a real force next season. Probably will be in the top two.

They have a great defence and potent strike force. This is the team we have to compare ourselves against as they will be one of the front runners for sure.

 

I'd imagine one if not more of their forwards could be off.

 

Thought they'd struggle as they'd get raided, but it hasn't happened so far, and I doubt they lose more than a few players now at this stage. History shows that play-off final losers (even when the final is lost in traumatic circumstances) often bounce back strongly the next season, even we went up the season after. Them and Norwich will be tough competitors this season for sure

Don’t underestimate the possibility that many transfers will happen well after the season starts. The domestic window doesn’t ‘slam shut’ until October 16th, which is four games in, excluding the Cup. Clubs are likely to still be negotiating/panicking up until then.
I know the arguments for it, but I’ve always hated the idea that the squad you start with can still be raided after a few games have been played.

 

I kind of get the idea behind having the window extend a couple of weeks into the season in this of all years, but it's complete ******** that the EFL window closes a week before the Prem. Should just be a pan-European window where every league's transfer window shuts around the start of August

Well aware that Brentford will lose a few players, but a) it'll probably just be a few, not 8-9, and b) as per this move, they seem to be up to the job of replacing them adequately

 

Exactly. The window isn’t slow at all - it’s just a victim of circumstance and is only really just getting going. Few clubs anywhere are doing business. Given Estupinan and Suarez have barely played and Wilmot has played literally a few games, given how much you’d hope they will play - they are like 3 new signings anyway so you could consider us active and having lost no players yet either!

Until some of the Doucoure, Deulofeu and Deeney situations are resolved I can't see any non-Udinese business being done as it is just too risky financially.

 

Just to pick up on that.......do you mean 8 or 9 more players.......or 8 or 9 in total?

Don't forget we've already lost Gomes, Holebas and Mapps. Ok, it looks at though Sierralta and Percia are now with us, so we're one down on squad numbers currently.

For me the big indicator were the missing players from last Saturday's lineup. I could be wildly wrong in my assumption, but it appears that we are trying to offload Capoue, Doucoure, Welbeck, Deeney, Femenia, Penaranda, Pereyra, Pussetto & Sinclair. There's no other reason for their exclusion from what I can make out. You can probably add Deulofeu to that list as well, as only injury is keeping him from going.......so that's 10 players, plus the 3 already gone......making a possible 13 exits. Still questions over why Estupinan, Pedro, Navarro and Chalobah were missing too. Hopefully is was for quarantine reasons on the first two.

I suspect they'll not all go, as not all players will attract offers meeting our evaluation, but there is a real risk of it happening if the club get the offers they feel are acceptable.

Femenia was quarantined, I expect him to be in the squad
Pereyra said 6 months ago in an interview he wants out this summer, not coming back

 

I don’t think we will lose 8-9 more from what we have. If you replace Mariappa, Holebas and Gomes with Wilmot, Suarez and Estupinan - with Perica and Sierralta too - we are actually up on numbers. But let’s see if those last two are kept. I still suspect they are somewhat on trial to see if they can do a job.

As always.....not been confirmed, so he has to be included in the possible outgoings right now......but I suspect that he has gone or will be going for £7m to Udinese.

I've been saying for ages, should have been the most obvious signing ever for us ( @Markoa$ was also very much on the bandwagon for a long time as well).

Watch him grab 20 goals this season and Brentford sell him for an easy £15mil profit next summer.

But we don't need him anyway of course, not with JP getting bullied up front and Murray with his zimmer frame.

Wouldn't say JP was 'bullied' as such, he tried hard and put himself about with desperately little to work with. Yeah Toney is great and all, but we'd have found a way to make him not score goals lol

It was £5mil rising to £10mil with add-ons, and I'd guess a fair chunk of the add-ons would be in case of promotion anyway.

Bread tomorrow doesn't help with bills today. The fact that we basically spent nothing all summer speaks volumes.

Just think how the season might have panned out so far with Toney upfront instead of Gray, Perica or Deeney.
