I didn’t claim to know Islam. I have a lot of time for you. But it does seem you’re painting yourself into a corner of ‘I know better’.
I never said you did either You asked why Sarr (supposed gay hater) didn’t refuse to accept a trophy from Elton John (a famous gay male) if he was such a good Muslim. I explained why? I certainly am not stating I know better but I know my cultural influences in life are far different to most on here, so I am giving an alternative opinion. Whether that makes me a bigot to some so be it, I certainly don’t think I’ve been rude or disrespectful to any poster on here during these discussions, if I have, I apologise.
Well no point in him joining Liverpool now . His mate and compatriot is off . https://mobile.twitter.com/Fabrizio...io/iframe/twitter.min.html1530891902547070983
I disagree. I think this makes Sarr-Liverpool much more likely. We know that they’ll want a flexible winger with a bit of pace who can play on both sides. We know that they back themselves to improve players. We know they have had a lot of interest in the past. I guess it depends on if they want to get a star who can be improved over time and serve us a backup to Salah and Diaz for now or if they’d rather spend twice as much and get a real star.
I agree. Would be a dream move and after an iffy season, Sarr wouldn't be expecting to start. Klopp would squeeze everything out of Sarr in a settled style, whereas here he has a new manager every 10 games, half of which haven't a clue how to use wingers. As we've seen with Robertson, Wijnaldum and Shaqiri - Liverpool are quite keen to pick up relegated players.
Some interesting points made in The Athletic today concerning Sarr. All parties are focused on selling the player, however, the sticking point is the price. Watford want at least £28m for him just to get their money back. Now, a good point being made is that Sarr is happy to return to Watford and join any training camp. He seems willing to still play for the club and is not pushing to get out. This could well play out well for Watford. It is possible that Sarr starts for us this season, plays until the World Cup where it's a shop window, has a good tournament then goes in the winter window, where prices are slightly inflated.
No one would ever know the exact figure, as these aren't directly published, however, I remember it was something like initially £27.4m plus another £4.5m due if Watford stayed up, which of course they didn't. There was a late payment penalty awarded against Watford further down the line, which you can add to the total, but I think £28m is around the sum Watford paid for Sarr.
It was 35 million euro in instalments as disclosed by Athletic, plus a few bits and bobs add ons. Athletic then used incorrect FX rate to convert it which is the £28m figure you are repeating.
"There is a degree of pride attached to Sarr’s potential sale. Selling for less than you’ve bought for never goes down well." taken from The Athletics latest article... And there was me thinking Gino and co were supposedly savvy businessmen.
I’m fairly certain that after another 3 weeks of media outlets and Twitter bods repeating the £28 million it will become fact and I’ll be some weirdo fighting the propaganda machine.
Baffling - obviously nobody likes losing money but sometimes it's best to know when to cut your losses. But sadly it's apparent Gino doesn't want to do with that our contract extension and transfer business in the last few years.
For the avoidance of any doubt Sarr cost €35m which is a matter of public record, to have cost £28m then It would’ve had to have been a rate of 1.25 and the closest we’ve been to that since we bought him in 2019 is 1.215. The rate when we bought him was 1.09 which would be £32m. If you believe he cost us £28m then you’ve been conned by the club, there is really no possible way he could’ve cost £28m, as exchange rates haven’t been anywhere near that level in the entire time since we bought him, and prior to buying him not since 2016 pre brexit. It’s simply not possible that he cost £28m as there has been no opportunity to buy euros at that rate for 8 years. Don’t believe everything you hear from the spin machine.
Or he spends his time in the treatment room until being called up. Didn't harm his AFCON participation.
In fairness, the club have said nothing. This is the Athetic’s dodgy maths slowly becoming cast iron fact.
Yeah that’s fair enough, although could they have been fed that figure from the club. The other possible scenario is that the club already held that much in Euros in a Euro account from previous sales to other clubs, or Udinese. The problem with that is that I’m pretty certain that from accounting point of view, the transaction would’ve still have been reported at the prevailing exchange rate at the time, so it again wouldn’t have cost £28m.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if we can recover the full £28m but hopefully if we have a few interested parties, we can get close.
I think we should all care that the owner of our club is driven by pride rather than what is best for the club, and that the figure his a pride is working to is in fact a fictitious one anyway.
He is so **** he won't get in most people's top 5 Watford player of the season, so I was expecting us to sell him for 15m but if we get anything as much as 20m, I will drink to it. Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
Eesh, so £25m would actually be £16m? That’s a horrible piece of business from start to finish isn’t it really.
We'll owe and be owed funds from numerous transfers, so it's just cashflow. £25m would be a £7m loss which seems about palatable given the circumstances. I'm not convinced we are going to get that though,
