If you have to fly somewhere to see a knee specialist then you really shouldn't be playing football for a few months.
Yes, it's not like spending hours on numerous flights over a short period of time will exacerbate any knee injury....
AL has just written that Senegal have confirmed the injury is too bad for Sarr to play in the AFCON. I will look forward to Senegal’s apology and the media coverage portraying Senegal as the villains of this saga.
That isn’t exactly what it says? Says they acknowledge the injury is bad and he should return to Watford via Spain - but have made comments that if they go deep in the tournament, there’s a slim chance they will call upon him if he’s on schedule (says we expect him back in training at the end of Jan) I’d say it’s ‘Advantage Watford’ but it’s not entirely over yet.
No advantage to Watford though really. We’ve been trashed in the media (surprise, surprise) and Sarr’s recovery has almost certainly been delayed by this unnecessary insistence on travelling to Africa. We’ve been treated badly and are certainly the Louza in all of this.
Which is kind of when they wanted to play him anyway wasn't it really? https://twitter.com/AdamLeventhal/status/1480580960651563012
Player that we said was weeks away from training is in fact weeks away from training. I'm SHOCKED at this development.
To be fair given our history of bending the truth and being underhand, I'm more surprised he isn't match-fit.
If our medics say "he's week away from training", that usually means "months" so it's good news that the Senegal guys have confirmed.
This was Senegal's original statement:- “The Senegal Football Federation wishes to express with this communication its deep condemnation of the disrespectful, pernicious and discriminatory behaviour of Watford’s hierarchy who look by all means to prevent a player from playing with his national team.” So now, as it's clear their aggressive and inflammatory statement was untrue, where is the apology? That statement stays in the mind and anyone who doesn't follow the club will think it's true if left unchallenged. It has to be retracted and an official apology has to be issued, but I very much doubt that will be forthcoming.
Nothing wrong with how the Sarr situation was handled as he is injured. Dennis situation maybe but easier to say now in hindsight.
I said it at the time, let him go. He's someone who had attitude problems at Club Brugge, he's a proud Nigerian too. Awful call.
Is the Dennis situation due to Afcon? Or is he just a big headed **** who has had a modicum of success and now thinks he’s peak Ronaldo?
Maybe he's not even annoyed at Watford for not letting him go to the Afcon, but with Nigeria who refused to say he'd get much game time with them even though he was in excellent form - leading him to think why should he even bother?
Did we stop him going or did he decide not to? Has that been established yet? If we stopped him then that was a stupid decision and I mentioned that it would be in an earlier post. Because as we all know he is very volatile so it was odds on that he would react in the way he seems to be ATM? However if it was his final decision I don't quite get what's up with him, unless he is annoyed and frustrated with Nigeria as lowerrous says above? But why take that out on WFC with his recent poor performances? Please wake up on your return ED as we really need you now
There were reports which said that he might have gone had Nigeria guaranteed him playing time, but after a phone call with the manager/setup there they wouldn't do that, so he wasn't that bothered about not leaving when it was decided that we would use the excuse of Nigeria's late call up to not release him. As you said, he has a reputation of being volatile, so who knows. But I'm just speculating that it also wouldn't necessarily be a case of him "taking that out on WFC", but rather that it could be a question of him having fallen in to a sulk and lacking motivation. Maybe the fact that Nigeria wouldn't play him, even with his form, then he also figured it's less important for him to try at club level as his country still won't play him. He also could generally be annoyed that his efforts weren't being recognised by Nigeria and that just made him lose general focus. Maybe these aren't the most likely scenario, who knows, but I don't think they're impossible.
Why should they assure him of game time? Nigerian national team isn't the same with Mauritanian national team, he has to join the team and fight for a place and show the manager he deserve to play for the team. After all he didn't play in the qualifiers, but the new manager invited him because he wants Dennis in the team. Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
It would have been a reasonable question given the form he was in. Usually for international call-ups it doesn't matter much as there's no clash with club fixtures so players can fight for their place. But while you're in the form of your life and playing regularly it'd be a bit crap to have to abandon that to sit on the bench abroad for a whole month while missing club games, and it's understandable a player would wish to avoid such a scenario when it's likely.
Being as he is almost certain to be leaving at the end of the season, If I were him I'd be concentrating on finding a new agent. He must rue the day he was ever convinced to join us. What a shocking 3 seasons he's had here (not his fault).
Have we made him a better player? I doubt he's any better now than he was at Rennes. What a terrible choice to come here, it must have purely been the pull of the PL.
Eh? Top scorer and key player behind our promotion drive last season, and a vital player towards our survival push when he was finally played and utilised properly (unfortunately the few games he was out proved to be fatal). He’s only been close to shocking in a few games leading up to Man Utd, but it’s clear how much we’ve missed him. Anyone have any idea when he’s coming back?
He has been very good at times but also marked out of games too or easily frustrated. Like most wingers then I guess !
He left a club who operate in the top half of Lique 1 and who qualified for the Champions League after he left them. You surely can’t be serious when mentioning what he did in the championship are you?
Not shocking himself, I meant shocking in that he's experienced relegation, a promotion season in front of empty stands where we were still terrible for half of it despite results, and now (most likely) another relegation season plus a bad knee injury on top. Had he gone to another club I think his career would have progressed further in the 3 years than it has at the mad camp that is Vicarage Road.
It would be/have been more difficult to mark him out of games had we somehow managed to get him and an in form Dennis on the pitch for more games.
