He doesn’t make enough of his gifts. And Pozzo vastly overpaid for him. That doesn’t mean he isn’t by far our best player though.
Dennis is certainly playing better than him on a more consistent basis, but it doesn't mean that Sarr isn't still absolutely vital to us, especially in forming a double threat which keeps defences constantly on their toes, it's just not the same with Cucho, JP or (shudder) Sema
Looks like there is some type of anti-Watford campaign building, with Senegal now accusing Watford of not releasing Sarr, even though he's injured. Senegal says Watford 'blocking' Sarr from playing Cup... | Daily Mail Online
Watford have not anything wrong. Nigeria didn’t follow the rules correctly and Dennis wasn’t bothered about going anyway by all accounts. (See the interview he gave on Hornets Hive). Sarr is injured and going through a long rehabilitation program. Senegal shouldn’t be calling in an injured player. It’s media spin (as always) that are painting a black picture of Watford. It feeds their agenda.
I get the Pozzos have a propensity for being slimy, but I struggle to see what we've done wrong here? Bloke might not even be fit for the whole tournament, why the **** would we let him go and risk him injuring himself further? We've already had one incident this season where Chile ****ed up Sierralta which proved very very costly to us, we can't afford for the same to happen to our best player!
It does seem like Dennis was happy to stay with us, but I guess we'll see the truth in his effort and performances over the next few months. As for Sarr, do Senegal not care about his welfare?!
Please clarify how the club have handled the AFCON 'horribly'? One player who had a fairly serious knee ligament injury and not expected to complete his rehabilitation til February. One player who was called up after the deadline, was given no guarantee of any game time let alone in his preferred position and chose not to go. How would you have handled it?
When it comes to your country, Sarr should be allowed to do what he wants. If he wants to go, he should go. Dennis may be making the right noises online but he barely pressed a man yesterday, displayed pretty poor body language, and got taken off at half-time. He wasn't assured game time but we all know he's probably the most in-form attacker in that squad and no doubt would've played a healthy amount of minutes. It's just a bit slimy IMO.
Well he can go if and when fit . Which I presume the club think he won’t be .. Even Senegal thought he wouldn’t be till the quarter finals - if they get there !
Why is it slimy? Sarr is barely running, probably doing light bike work to strengthen the muscles around the knee. He definitely won't be cleared for contact for several weeks and then could relapse. I'd say we're looking end of Feb to be available for selection and the AFCON ends Feb 6th. Nigeria's main striker is Oshimen, he was ruled out of the AFCON in November - so it's not like it was a last minute injury forcing an emergency call up. Nigeria finalised their squad and Dennis was an afterthought. If anything, the ones acting in a 'slimy' fashion are the Nigerian and Senagalese federations.
Dennis apparently was injured yesterday, hence he came off. As I posted here, he liked a social media post about the Sarr situation, which is often an interesting insight into their thoughts, I highly doubt he'd do that if he were sulking. As much as I respect the AFCON, even if Sarr wants to go to play for Senegal, seeing as you have to release players if they're fit, we're well within our rights to not want to risk our star player getting even more seriously injured
Tomorrow there will probably be a complaint from the FA of Ghana that we are refusing to release Cleverley on the grounds of him not being Ghanaian. Absurd really.
Clowns ******* and moaning about an injured player not being able to go to a tournament. Are they completely brain dead?
I don’t disagree with your wider point but for the sake of a fair debate, the bit in bold isn’t true. He was only ruled out the other day after contracting Covid. He had been included in the squad for AFCON after his facial injury and it’s fair for people to argue Dennis was included because of doubts over Oshimen’s availability - but he was in the squad.
Surely they don’t need to rely on someone who is half fit and certainly lacking match fitness It’s not like he is their main player in attack. The press would be questioning Southgate if this was England and we have done this before in taking half fit players ourselves .
Sarr has arrived in Dakar, but his injury is far worse than I thought. He doesn’t actually have any legs!!
I know it's a photo but he looks like a Madame Tussauds dummy there with that pose and lighting. Has Gino pulled the ultimate con?
I guess he is in some sort of training but the 2 parties think he is at different levels of fitness . Senegal might be more prepared to take a risk on Sarr for 3 games .
Of course they would it costs them very little if he gets injured as they only have to pay his wages, but it could in theory cost WFC our PL status.
Senegal will have other games coming up, including vital WCQ's. I doubt they would be content to see him injured or think it wouldn't cost them to lose a vital player.
Now flying to Spain to see a knee specialist. Senegal coach says he’s “not 100% fit”. Sounds like they aren’t ruling out him playing. The s*** bags.
Imagine he plays all three games and comes back fully fit with no injury - the media response would be hilarious.
