Got in very much through the back door, but Canada have qualified for the Copa America where they will be making their debuts in the competition, Kone subbed off in added time in the second half
Argentina, Peru and Chile are their opponents, Argentina obviously hot favourites, but neither of the other two were at the most recent World Cup and have seen better times...
We'd probably want £12-£15m. We spent ~£7-8m or so we spent on him originally. If we're to keep Asprilla we have to sell Koné along with one or two other players. GIve me a choice between Koné and Asprilla and I'd keep Asprilla.
Roma met with Kone’s agency recently to discuss Jonathan David, who they also represent. Initial talks regarding Kone too as De Rossi wants a box-to-box midfielder, according to Corriere dello Sport. Imagine he will need to perform well at Copa America for any interest to become concrete.
Still young, and did improve last season after a hit and miss first half season, but I cannot see us making such a sizeable profit on him, I think we'd be happy with even a small profit and potentially a cut of any future fee. Said it in the Kayembe thread, they're both kind of similar players, Kayembe slightly better right now and a touch more consistent, but Kone has more potential. If by selling one of them and keeping the other, if helps us to keep Asprilla, so be it, with Kone being the one more likely to fetch a significant fee
Former player now, but just scored Canada’s winning penalty in the shootout to send Canada to the semi-final against Argentina. Gino’s probably wishing he held onto him a little longer to get a bigger fee.
Was dropped to the subs bench for this game but looked good when he came on. Scored the winning penalty, under great pressure, but as cool as the proverbial. Marseille have got a bargain methinks, and Gino must really be desperate.
Wasn't that the deadline for PSR/FFP reasons? I know we are skint, but are we in danger of flouting FFP regulations? Perhaps we wanted to just sell him early to raise some funds to actually be able to do business for the rest of the window?
I guess they might have paid a few quid more because he managed to score via a free hit from 12 yards. Good for him and Canada though.
