That was a local game for me tonight, only 30 miles away so I went. That had to be one of the worst games of football in terms of quality that I've witnessed. Yet again we looked sluggish. The tactics were wrong and why we didn't switch from a back 5 to a back 4 i've no idea. How does Ngakia earn a start for this football club? He is not a good footballer & we have much better options. Also Ince really poor tonight, that was the Ince from last season, he just brings nothing to the team, apart from experience maybe? Sierralta is soooo slow in & out of possesion, so why do we keep going back and passing to him? Did Bayo touch the ball that second half, then again in his defence he had no service at all. MOTM for me goes to Baah, wasn't on the pitch long but that driving run from the half way line and cut back into the box earnt us an undeserved point. Just start him ffs? We've been overachieving this season for sure. The last few games have been attrocious. Hopefully we'll see a much better display on Sunday, if not we'll be saying goodbye to the unbeaten home form this season.
Really boring game and more worrying was that we are so slow in the build-up. Was dropping in and out of the match but must credit Baah for a simply amazing driving run and excellent cross for Vata. As others have said we look so lethargic. It needs freshening up and a change in formation is needed. But it looks and feels very stale and something needs to change.
That was really poor, considering Hull are bobbins but ironically they’re the ones who will be disappointed with a draw. There’s a few reasons why we won’t make the top 6 (at least six better teams being one of them) and another is how slow we start seemingly every game. It’s almost like the brains aren’t programmed to switch on until after the 10th minute. Yet again another slow and ponderous start, that first half was just nothing. Having Louza in central midfield is fine but Kayembe cannot be the one alongside him. It just doesn’t work. For me it should be Dwomoh. He can handle the physical and defensive side and leave Louza to playing the attackers through and picking the passes out. Ince is not an attacking midfielder either. I actually thought Ngakia had an alright game but even I agree with if Ebosele and Larouci are both fit then that is our starting wing-back pairing, all day long. One final thing, can we PLEASE take Chakvetadze off corner taking duty? I can’t think of many more frustrating things in football than a corner not beating the first man, and he does this time and time again.
Luckily I missed the game and was able to FF thru lots of it. That was dire! We look like a team desperate to keep things slow and simple and as usual we always don't have the real grit and fitness to control much of the game. Every bottom 10 team are going to work harder than us and let's face it, we all knew that Hull would want it more than us. Why do they always prove us right.? We still look like a cocky lazy team that wants to put the least possible effort in. I want watch a half decent WFC that goes all in every game, not what got tonight.!!
It's absolutely bizarre that Baah is consistently benched almost every week when he is the only one that can make something happen. If he gets a start and fails to score or assist then he's the first one off the team sheet in the next match, we proceed to look toothless then he comes on and all of a sudden we have an outlet. It's such an insult when you see absolute dross like Bayo and Kayembe starting week in week out regardless of how bad they are performing, without any consequences to their sub par play. Bayo is top 3 worst strikers I have ever seen play for Watford. It's an absolute myth that he works hard, presses and brings others into play. He saunters around half jogging towards opponents when he doesn't have the ball, when he does have the ball he shins it out of play, when he shoots he swings a body part at the ball without even thinking about his body position and the trajectory of the ball. He's like a secret agent hired by the opposition to sabotage every attacking opportunity we might have. I can't wait to see him at Udinese next season, the bloke is deluded if he thinks he can play top flight football.
Reckon this is going to end up a bit like the Edwards/Bilic season just with the same manager, in that we remain in and around the play offs for a bit before ultimately ending up nowhere near them. It’s all very well saying win at home and draw away and you’ll be up there, but some of the utter crap we’ve struggled against away from home recently recently suggests it’s only a matter of time before the home form slips, rather than the away form improving.
I think we have over performed in the main this season, and that performance was more a reflection of where we are. We lack quality, but at least have a team of players that in the main give it a go.
Now, I am in no way comparing us to Liverpool in terms of much at all… But I saw Slot come out and pan his team after a midweek win in the CL - that’s the attitude I like, striving for better, not accepting average etc. Compare that with Cleverley’s post game comments after a lucky draw with bottom of the league, 4 points from possible 37, lost last 6 in a row Hull… ‘Really pleased with the intensity.’ ‘A point gained.’ ‘Really pleased with the character.’ ‘We now move on to WBA.’ It’s maddening that he won’t come out and be extremely angry after yet another soulless, pathetic away effort. Which lends itself to the belief that he doesn’t really know what he’s doing away from home so he just sticks with the same failing blueprint and is genuinely happy when it yields any points at all.
A 90 minutes of all our lives we will never get back. Summed up all the bad things about our season so far, rather than all the good things (bar one). Sluggish, negative, too respectful of a much lower opponent, terrible set plays, total lack of a number 9, midfield not gelling, Chak failing to ever hit the target with his shots or take a decent corner, and of strange selections (no Baah, Morris or Ebosele). It was a barely deserved point despite the goal we conceded not being legal, but well done to our player of the season so far for coming on and creating hopefully the first of many for Vata. ‘Youth’ 1, underachieving senior players 0. So here we are almost at Christmas, having sold our best two players in the summer and barely spent a penny replacing them, tipped to struggle with a rookie manager, but still clinging on somehow to the top six on a run of one defeat in eight matches. It’s been an unexpectedly decent season so far, but nights like last night make one think it could have been ever better still. Pity.
Not sure what game our coach was watching,a rubbish lathergic effort again against awful low on confidence teams who we should be grabbing by the throat and putting under pressure ,don't get me started on the press or should I say what press
Is it a coincidence that we have altered a bit since we've had Robbo in to improve us defensively? Like we are building from the back first, obviously team selection doesn't help.
I find it curious when watching a stream of the game, what happens is that Hull had a cross or moment where they get the ball near our goal, they were gash (and for a bit of credit, we didn't defend badly overall). So the ball is with one of our back 5 or Bachman - the TV shows a 5/10 seconds replay and when they return seconds later to the live match... Hull have the ball just inside our half.
It works - to cut their passing channels they can't get the ball where they want it. But when Hull did the same the game just dribbled out, until eventually they figured out they could actually bypass our press by playing longer balls down the wings.
Given that I think James Morris has no place playing in the Championship consistently, I’m angry with myself for yearning for him to replace Sierralta. That’s how bad Sierralta has been.
He seems to be basing his whole appraisal of our performance on Hull having a ‘new manager’ bounce. Bizarre mentality.
And yet remarkably he isn't even the worst striker in the current squad. We've had many worse than him in my opinion, but it is an area that desperately needs an upgrade. Whichever striker comes in will require better service than is currently being served up.
Sierralta is ok if it’s a physical battle but not much else . Slow and rash in the tackle and often pulls people about . As for on the ball - not sure any of the back line are that good in possession.
Sometimes he gets a tough ride from fans but last night he was awful. He looked like he was struggling to kick a ball cleanly, was getting turned too easily and generally looked miles off the pace.
Anyone else notice the commentator had a chip on his shoulder about having to commentate on a championship match? It seemed like every 5 mins he bitched about "because this isn't the premiership we don't have VAR" etc. Was the only thing interesting about the match.
Such a frustrating performance. I can only agree with what most have posted on here. The complete lack of positivity against probably the poorest team in the league has been replicated in so many games this season at home as well as away, despite the difference in results. It’s partly down to the slow starts, which is a mindset problem in my view, which are exacerbated by the timid team selection on most occasions. The players who are prepared to run with the ball don’t usually start (apart from Chak who is rarely effective) so we have to wait for an hour before something happens. But in the end you have to accept the main failing is down to the complete lack of centre-forward options. If we had a decent one the whole team could play further up the pitch instead of making interminable wall passes inside our own half.
I still think it’s harsh to label Jebbison as worse than Bayo given how little we have seen of him - but admit there must be a reason he’s not getting in the squad. I just fail to believe he could possibly be worse and I’d like to see a run of 3-4 games to see if it’s true…at this point, trying that won’t detract from our performances as Bayo has offered nothing over the same period of games. And I think the service being seen is a symptom of having Bayo up front personally. They know he doesn’t run, they know he doesn’t really battle and they know he doesn’t anticipate anything at all. I’d genuinely give Doumbia a run out now.
Spooked by the early goals we let in early this season maybe but still we can press on as the game does go on I agree. We lacked pace again which is an issue generally. Only Baah and Georgi seems to have any of the attacking players . Vata probably too but he doesn’t play much . Didn’t seem to be much joy in his voice afterwards in the post match interview - maybe shy and a bit timid ?
I did think (watching on TV) that the pitch looked pretty ropey, and TC's post match comments support this.
Agreed, the lawns at Meister manor are in a far better state and I fired my groundsman back in August.
A good point on the road against a Hull team that are far better than where they are in the league. Baahs run and pass for the goal was glorious to watch. Over the 90 mins I think a draw was a fair result.
Absolutely dreadful performance, lucky to get the draw. TC completely to blame for that horrendous line up which made no sense considering they had the weekend off. 4 points dropped against QPR and Hull and we now have two very tough games against WBA and Burnley.
Yeah I didn't get that, if you include the subs, Hull had 10 British/Irish players as did we. We actually subbed four British/Irish players on whereas they subbed three foreign players on. Now it does make you think about what the commentator really meant.....
