Absolutely. I learned a lot about the famous replicas of the Watford Blockbusters store. The locals were in awe of our ingenuity apparently.

Long weekend in London at the end of January (mainly to see the Lion King, but cramming in quite a few touristy things).

Then heading to Japan for 2 and a half weeks in March: Tokyo > Nagano > Kyoto (inc day trips to Osaka & Nara) > Hiroshima > Hakone > Tokyo.

Hoping for a one-nighter to Watford before the season is out too, maybe April time.

Heading to a stag do in Edinburgh in June.

Hopefully a week long 'beach' holiday in the summer months, maybe Greece.

And then likely a trip or two to Boston with work at some point this year.

If you need any advice for Barbados, give me a shout. I go there once or twice a year!

Hakone is well worth doing. If you’re going to Hiroshima and you have time, you could pop over to Miyajima. It was very nice with great walks/ views, but also relatively quiet.

Kiso Valley is also very beautiful and worth a 2-3 day detour if you have the time. We spent 3-4 days in Hokkaido island too but that was primarily for wildlife.

You need to head to the Three Sisters. Thank me later.

Planning that for Day 2 in Hirsohima! Day 1 is the peace park, museum, bomb dome, etc.

I'm bound by the school holidays for a few more years yet, but I've been hankering a week in the sun type holiday for a while now after a few years of multiple city breaks. First week of summer holidays for a week in Tenerife, could be fun but could be a reminder why I try and avoid 'mainstream' holidays.

One of the best things I've done in recent years is to take one mini holiday a year completely alone, and my wife does the same. As keen runners we usually tie it around a running event and so I've booked a long weekend to myself in Nuremberg in the summer and running the half marathon whilst I'm there.

I used to live in Nuremberg, it's a fantastic city. Like you my wife and I try to do something for ourselves once a year, she went to Madrid last year with friends and then in October I went to North Macedonia.

As we're waiting for the flights to be released for next Christmas we're holding off for a bit as we may be going to Peru for Xmas/New Year; if they prove too expensive will look at something else.

Nuremberg is great. We have visited several times for Christmas and my wife and I are going to a football match there in a few weeks time. It is a great city. The half marathon this year is the reverse of the one I ran in 2024 - that was Furth to Nuremberg, this one is the reverse route.

The solo holiday thing is excellent, though I have met a few people who find it strange that we do it. We both enjoy our own company so it feels nice to have a long weekend somewhere new and a bit of timeout from being a husband/wife/parent.

We’ve been hit by the gloom of returning to work following Christmas and New Years and spent last evening looking at a short city break in May or June. Our birthdays are a week apart so we’re thinking we may do something around that time. Prague is currently top of the list.

Nuremberg is awesome. Visited during the World Cup in 2006 when England played Trinidad and Tobago. Would love to return.
I also love time away on my own and have been extremely fortunate with my work to be able to go to most European capitals and the far east on my own. Just perfect.

If you can put up with Ryanair then flights to Nuremberg from Stansted are buttons at the moment. Same with Bremen - off there on a football weekend on Friday afternoon, flights were £33.

Off to Oz this week to see my youngest who’s moved there for a year. Going out via Mumbai for a few days and back via Delhi so we can also go to Agra and Jaipur.
