Instead of making all cars have to bong at you if you break the speed limit, how about make it mandatory to have a portable defibtillator instead. https://www.change.org/SaveLivesWithDefibrillatorsinCars Has some good reasoning. If I was Rachel from Accounts I'd knock the cost of it off the intial VAT bill on purchase as an incentive.
Ah but what happens if your defib needs using because you're just (un)lucky enough to be driving past at that moment? Mandatory replacement at your own cost?
Good point. Could have a free replacement service send it in for recycling/replacement. It gets done at next service/part of MOT? Mind you if you've used it once imho you've made a difference and shouldn't be compelled to replace.
I think we should go back to the Flintstones era of cars. Have people make it move with their feet by running to adjust the speed. No need for Fuel or Electric car ports. Just blood, sweat and tears.
I have a Hyundai hire car in Spain at the moment. It "cleverly" "reads" the speed limit signs. Trouble is that it reads the signs on the exit slip roads as I drive along the freeways even if I'm not exiting! It keeps bonging, telling me to do 60 when the limit on the freeway is 120. I need to work out how to turn the damn thing off before it dives me nuts. Ain't tech wonderful.....
All new cars have to have this. There will be an option to turn it off, but it'll reset next time you turn the ignition.
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/...red-all-new-cars-know-rules-and-how-they-work July this year I think. EU regs which We've adopted, not that it would be likely manufacturers would vary it for a UK only model.
I assume that the UK models will be set to use MPH. Having said that, what about taking your car to the continent? From my experience it just doesn't work very well. If I had been "forced" to adhere to the "speed limit" by the car reducing power I would have literally been doing 40kmh in a 90kmh zone on at least 3 occasions and 60kmh in a 120kmh zone on multiple occasions. On several other occasions it totally missed both 30kmh and 20kmh zones and was quite happy for me to carry on doing 40kmh. I can't wait to get back to my car tbh. It doesn't constantly bong at me and I actually feel like I'm in charge rather than the f#@king car.
Yep agreed. I would think it would be GPS related and an underlying calculation in KMH would be sensible. The meistermobile Satnav has speed limits on it, but it's only as up to date as the map. I recently went back to an older map as the new card corrupted, Eastcote went back to a 30. I think for it to be totally usefull it would need some sort of live subscription. Like most thigs I get the idea in principle, but it's probably the wrong way to go about it. People that drive recklessley will do so whatever.
We have plenty of salvia growing in tubs in the garden. Had no idea it had hallucinogenic qualities or of it's ability to optimise driving performance so will be sure to fully utilise this in future.
