the positivity of this signing uninspires me. why are we signing another championship level player? we've got guedioura and watson. if we had any ambition to break into the top 10 we should be looking at players more highly rated than this and not signing players which look like were preparing for relegation under boothroyd

True but I suspect he'll cost a bit more though. 2.5M was Derby's opening bid & I expect they'll try again with an increased offer, which we will have to better.

 

Yeah guessing Derby will try again but cannot see them going up to around 5 million. Which is not a great deal of money really.

 

Weird isn't it? Most of our Championship players were deemed not good enough for the PL and here we are buying average ones from that very place.

 

Nothing wrong with GOOD Championship players though, the trick is to pick the right ones. It's always a gamble but many have been signed by midtable Prem sides in recent years & done well.

 

Yeah can see what you are saying. However I think Landsbury is certainly one of the best central midfielders in the championship. We have plenty of injuries now and out squad is smaller than it was when we let our own championship players go. HL isn't going to cost massive money and he will probably only play as a squad player when everyone's back fit.

My bad. Glad you pointed it out though as no one would possibly know what I was going on about.

 

Whilst initially sceptical, I didn't realise his contract was expiring. Getting a fit, home grown option for 2.5 mil would be decent business.

 

As long as the PL keep their rules which limit foreign squad places to 17 out of 25 we're always going to have tough choices to make at this club. Vydra, FF, Abdi etc were up against the other foreign players already on the books. Lansbury being HG means he's basically a free hit. He's got an easier route into our squad and no one to compete with.

Off topic, but interestingly enough Nottingham Forest is being taken over by the former owner (John Jay Moores) of my local baseball team, the San Diego Padres. If he does as well in Notts as well as he did in San Diego, then Forest are screwed.
