750k more than the Pozzo Championship record purchase fee.

We only do freebies and loans down here.

I yearn for the heady days where we'd go on a £65k spending spree to snare Paul Mayo from Lincoln.

Release clause of £600k mentioned in one of those reports. Irrelevant of course as we're not even one of the clubs linked to him.

Silly thing is that as a business model, it's surely far better to take a few punts on younger, hungry lower league players that you can get on the cheap than hoping that some random continental who's been floating around reserve teams barely playing for a few years comes good. You only need a couple to come off and you can sell them on for huge profit. But what do I know?

I agree that we really should be in for him, but it seems that Blackburn pulled out because its not just 600k but 600k plus a sizeable sell on fee and many other add-ons, making it too expensive for them all in. Still, even if he came to cost 2m or so all in - particularly if most of that is only paid out if we get promoted, or sell him at a big profit, or is otherwise a big success for us - that would still represent good value.

I do agree we need to be looking for young talent particularly with Brexit affecting transfers although with our record we’d probably mess their careers up !

I only want players who are someone famous; Harry Pickering isn't that, despite however much he may proclaim to the contrary.

We don't really need him, why spend the money under our current circumstances f Masina is fot he is a very good option and Kiko cam do a job there as a Ngakia.

    Please see below (updated) :-
    • He wants to stay in the North.
    • We probably had initial discussions but it's not a priority.
    • How do you know we didn't try and sign him?
    • Low xG.
    • We have Masina back now and he looked decent.
    • He's not good enough anyway.
    • No Champo experience.
    • We need to cut our cloth accordingly.
    • How do we know he can step up? Lower league players never step up to a higher level.
    • The sell on fee clause I just invented makes the deal unacceptable. For some reason.
    • Paul Mayo is available.
    • 'Kiko cam do a job there as a Ngakia'

How far we've come from "we have an advantage as they can live close to, or in, London, making us much more desirable" to "he wants to stay up north".

    Both ********, obviously.

It's likely Kiko won't be here next season if we don't go up, same goes for Masina.

And don't forget that "f Masina is fot he is a very good option". Ultimately the decider for me.

I think both are true in certain contexts. Players from abroad are often more likely to be interested in coming to London than Stoke or Preston. Players from near Stoke or Preston may prefer to play near their families and not have to move would probably prefer to go there, particularly if all other aspects (league, player role, wages) are similar. This is not always true, but some players weigh personal factors more than others.

So some players prefer the North of England and some prefer the south due to their own personal circumstances.

Another stunning insight into human behaviour.

He probably got told the clubs that were interested in him. Given our recent record with young talent he’s said tell Watford I like gravy on my chips. If it’s true Leicester are linked then they’ve a pretty decent record with full backs.

What about those living in the Midlands ? Do they have to pick North or South ?

Well apparently others on this thread seem to think that personal circumstances/preference make no difference in a player's choice between clubs. I agree: it's not insightful at all but some seem to think this is a controversial proposition.

In reality anything north of Aylesbury is "the North". If there is a "Midlands", it's only really Hemel to Aylesbury anyway.

Blackburn close to signing Branthwaite on loan from Everton. I know he’s more of a left-sided CB but I wonder if this would impact any move for Pickering...

    I hate Gino!!!

Gone to Blackburn and loaned back to Crewe. Blackburn will sell him to a Prem team by the time he is 25/26 for a massive profit.

We’re so short sighted as a club.

There are quite a few youngsters being picked out by other clubs. We seem to only look at the bargain basement of PL academies. This model needs to change urgently. It's very disappointing indeed.

Just putting him back on the radar. Finished Crewe’s 3rd best player of the season, 4th if you include Ng that went to Cardiff.

Will be Blackburn’s starting LB next season. Looking forward to see him tearing up the championship.
