Ive never come across many photo's from that day. Sadly.

But today ive found one.. with our fans celebrating in the background..

PS I see the time of the 4th goal is given as 29 minutes. As it is in other reports. I think the commentator got it wrong.. or possibly the scoreboard was.

This passage sums up the outpouring of emotion and craziness stemming from that result probably better than any of us could, from BSaD's Nick Grundy (anyone know him, BTW? Does he post on here?):

"the day ... ended with a short walk through Watford, telling a few people the result, a bus trip back up here, and then an hour in the College bar wearing my home shirt and a frankly ridiculous hat which has antlers on drinking myself into a joyful stupor on beer, cider and Tequila, and ensuring everyone in the bar a) knew exactly what game I'd been to see, the score, the scorers, how long it had been since we'd last beaten them, what we think of Luton (tricky when there's only one of you, but a Wimbledon supporting friend was happy to oblige after the first few attempts failed), which divisions Watford and Luton would be in at the start of next season, how many Graham Taylors there are, where we are in the league and b) thought I was a total ******.

But God, was it worth it."

You carry on and let it go but I certainly will not. That 32 minutes was the best feeling I've ever had at a game of football.
They are and always will be our rivals for most Watford fans and to be honest I'm always slightly irritated by posts telling us to forget them.
4-0, we beat the scum 4-0

I wasn't there. The reason I asked when the first goal was scored was - was it in the 16th minute? If so, that would explain the 16 minute recollection. All the goals between the 16th and 32 minutes. A 16 minute period.

Whoops. Edit: Between the 5th and 29th minutes then. A 24 minute period. Thanks Stevo.

The 2-1 win at the Kennel during the one and only season we've played them in the league in the last 20 years deserves a mention surely though?

Understandably it's shadowed by the 4-0, but let's be honest many of us were dreading that season - Webber, H, Gibbsy and others gone, a rookie manager, us favourites for relegation, them lot up the road coming up - but then we had that amazing promotion, not the least of which included schooling the scum in their own backyard, in a game in which they didn't get a shot on target during the second half despite us being down to ten men for nearly half an hour. One of many great memories from a great season...

No it doesn't. We should have beaten them 7 or 8. To hell with the consequences over security. Very little disappointed me about God other than the suggestion that he might have stopped that historic win reaching its full potential.

I wasnt there unfortunately but can remember Des Lynam presenting Grandstand that day and having to keep going back to the Kennel to report another Watford goal.

The wife was at work so didnt see me jumping around the lounge after each goal. My daughters thought I'd lost the plot. They are now old enough to understand!

My Grandad, being a L*t*n fan, would have been turning in his grave!

    Nothing better than beating them.

It’s football you are supposed to have a historic rival that you hate. It’s a bit like the team you love , you can’t suddenly decide to support a new team, you can’t suddenly decide to have a different rival - doesn’t work like that

I was there too! The best bit about their pitch invasions was they kept doing it ONE PERSON at a time, there must have been 3 or 4 individual pitch invasions by their fans, if only they had had the brains to go for a mass invasion they might have suceeded in getting the match abandoned :D

ha! look at the drooling mutants in the background. One of the ***** is even looking in the wrong direction, too slow to keep up with the play.

Hopefully that match ruined their entire lives, the ghastly ****s.

Never gets tiring celebrating this. Glad I was there as it was one of those away days where everything was perfect. Made up for all the crappy Grimsby, Swindon, Shrewsbury, Plymouth, Preston etc etc away day horrors.

Can't wait for the five year consolidation period to expire and we can try and win something for the first time in our history with our best and most expensive squad and coaching setup.

Wait, it is five years isn't it? Or is it 10?

Some goods thing we are "worse off" than them is:

    Points deductions
    Banning orders
Being kicked out of major domestic competitions.
Riots at ground on live TV.

They might have had a bit more success in the past but we are the ones on the up and with a healthy reputation!

Did anyone go to the league cup game when they beat us 2-1 at the Vic? Matt Spring scored our consolation. I say it because those Moran’s caused massive Aggro before and after the match. I remember turning my girlfriend and telling her to get ready to leave early...

    Fantastic -thanks

For those of us who were there i can remember the whole day as if it was yesterday not 21 years ago.

After so many failings both at home (losing to that last minute goal on boxing day at home in 1979) to losing by the same score there 3 years later standing on the open Kenilworth road terrace in front of over 21.000 with what i think was all 3 pens packed with Watford, that win made up for all those-even bettering the FA Cup win in 84 on our way to Wembley

Only 9,000 there compared to that 21,000 15 years earlier which was the largest crowd since the infamous battle of kenilworth rd in 1969 as our promotion party drew over 25,000. While on that subject, as many will know, that gate saw over 10,000 watford there and next April will be 50 years on from that event and if anything annoys a L*t*N fan its that night and the 4-0 of 1997. Nostalgia eh-its not what it used to be -except for a few of us.

We played 11 competitive games at Kenilworth Road in the 1980's.. plus two friendies.
Our record was W2 D2 L7. Sorry to remind people of that.. I'm just underlying the pain we went through. I was at most of them.. 9 i think .. dont know why but i missed the league victory in 84.
I was however one of the few that was witness to the second victory in 86. We were few because the away fan ban was in place then. I'd got a membership easily enough cause i was living in Aylesbury at the time, which is horribly near to that place.
I was also there in 97. So when we sang "10 years.. but it's worth the wait" i really had waited that long.

I was at that game in 1986 as well and I seem to remember there was a fair few fans that had snuck in. I do remember Tony Coton getting a decent reception when he approached the home end. I was also at the Anglo Italian game which we won. Alex Inglethorpe won it late I think, 2-1

I'm pretty sure that's the only time I've seen us beat them.

I've only been to the Kennel twice, first was the season opener in 1993 where we had two sent off, the second was a month before we both got relegated in April 1996, that was 0-0 I think both sets of fans were resigned to relegation and the atmosphere was very flat.
