In I don’t remember anything being said about potentially having a young exciting squad on here. I just remember the hysteria around how we would have an awful squad , everyone would leave , Sarr would barely play a game and we’d probably go straight down to league 1. Similar to what will no doubt be repeated on here ad Infinitum until next season starts .
"This club has had 19 head coaches, 167 loans 2 relegations and a fat Danny Rose...." "Well how the hell is it the same club then" "Well here's a picture what more proof do you want"
When it comes to Femenia, of course he will do in his current form, as he proved in spades last season - my concern is that he is 31, and he relies almost entirely on his pace defensively. He's an attacking full back as it is, who can be totally outwitted by a gremlin like Nathan Jones simply realising he hates turning to deal with balls over his head. As it is, when that happens, his only possible response is outpacing the attacker to said ball. The moment that pace goes, he's a lame duck, and we have no idea when that could happen. Given he turns 32 halfway through next season, we need to recognise that we're rather likely to be closer than further away from that moment, and historically we haven't been great at that (to say the least).
If you are claiming a significant proportion of posters on here were saying we would go down to league 1 then you are just making things up. Stop talking gibberish.
Ok well I admit I can’t exactly remember how many people exactly said what , my memory isn’t that good , but if I’m taking ‘gibberish’ then the idea that there were loads of people looking forward to a season with a young exciting squad Is pure fantasy . The overall consensus on here was 90% negative and centred around how terrible our owners are as per usual.
Tbf think most were hopeful with the right players and manager we would be ok. Not many said we would go down apart from one member. Maybe wasn’t quite the “We’ll piss the league type “ attitude we saw on Twitter though. There was some annoyance when we lose those 2 young players so close to the season starting though .
The poster saying we would go down was LaClusiask or whatever he is called. Lots of posters were anticipating Ngakia, Estupinan, Suarez, TDB, Chalobah, Quina. If you recall the club did a propaganda piece before Suarez and Estupinan was sold. The phrase Chalobah and Quina dominating the championship was banded around. And a proportion of posters on here I agree did centre around how awful our owners were “as usual”. And guess what. They were correct. See our accounts, 9 home defeats in a row, dreadful team spirit and the divisive fan committee complete with NDA (!) for more information,
Yes, l did say that we would go down. I was a season too late. I blame covid for the delay. I am still calling it a win for me.
This reminds me of the farce last time we went down and there were about 12 players who wanted out and weren't played.
But Capoue was MOTM in a Europa League Final and just beat Bayern Munich. Funny what a settled squad and a good manager can do for you.
What makes anyone think Femenia even wants to stay that they keep including them in their list? He’ll be dying for a move back off to sunny Spain.
Some lower La Liga side will take him and I'd drive him to the airport myself. Gutless streak of piss.
Maybe Ngakia can come in and live up to the big hype the club gave him? He’d probably be getting more games at West Ham !!
Not always been bad but part of the bunch of losers that have become synonymous with this stale squad which in turn has become synonymous with the stinky regime of Gino. See also: Foster, Cathcart, Cleverly
Groundhog day. Go back two seasons and we are having the same chat again. The club are a shambles. I understand that Duxbury is leaving at the end of this season. We need a major change both on and off the pitch, but we keep saying this as fans We could end up with an extremely weak squad in our forthcoming Championship season.
Ok, hold on, is this another patented WFCForums Chinese whispers, or have any of the at least three posters who have said this today actually heard this as some kind of insider knowledge? Didn't the slight noise out of the Committee the other day suggest he was nowhere near leaving?!? I have to know.
Utterly bamboozled as to why anyone would pay any attention to, or interact with, that account. It's so obviously someone pretending to be an ITK journalist and just writing any old ****.
I think Capoue is a bit of a unique case, clearly a hugely talented player but equally I think he was more than happy playing for us, with less pressure and being a big fish in a small pond. I think he raises his game depending on the level of opposition and enjoys it when he comes up against better opposition, but is much less arsed against inferior ones. You could tell in the Europa league final he revelled in coming up against Pogba and making him look bad, yet he had no interest in doing that against championship cloggers. I totally agree with your wider point, I just think with Capoue it’s more about his character than us as a club/manager turnover, he always turned it on with us when he wanted to, irrespective of all that, and it’s not like he was actually bad for us, far from it. For any other players like Dawson etc. I totally agree, I just think with Capoue it’s more his nature than anything else, he was probably our best most consistent player for us while he was with us, so it’s not like he was even bad with us, but we never had the quality around him to qualify for Europe, let alone win a European competition.
He was our best most consistent player while he was with us. Statistically he was also near enough the best DM in the league for a couple of seasons as well. On the Europe point though, in 2018/19 we ended up finishing only 7 points behind Wolves in 7th and the last Europa League spot. However, after beating Wolves in the Semi Final our form, energy and maybe motivation levels collapsed and out of our remaining 6 league games we lost 4, drew 1 and only won 1 vs Huddersfield. One of our subsequent league losses was also at home to Wolves. So had we beaten Wolves say at home in the league instead of in the cup then we'd have only needed an additional 1 point from the home games we had vs Saints (drew), Arsenal (lost) and Spam (lost) to have gotten Europe that season. Not very far at all.
I think we’re more or less agreeing with each other, Capoue wasn’t a bad player for us, far from it, he was one of our better players or in fact our best one. My point really is that him winning the Europa league doesn’t really say much about us as a club either way, because he was a good player for us. I take your point about the Europa league qualification, but let’s face it, even if we qualified for it we would never have won it would we? He performed well with us but we were never a team good enough to win the Europa league, whereas Villarreal clearly are. The only time he played poorly for us was in the championship but who can blame him, he didn’t want be there.
Capoue was a marmite player at times but you knew generally for most of his spell here he was trying and showed good ability .
Crazy idea, I know, but have they ever thought of signing youngish players from Champ or L1 clubs who might jump at the chance of playing for a team that has spent time in the Prem recently?
Spoke to a Southend fan yesterday, who said that Sam Dalby is ripping up the National League. Another slipped through our fingers.
As SLB has said, and I think we both did the first time he popped up a week ago or so, he is the clearest pisstaking shyster around. Not to mentioned he's literally called 'moroney'.
It was put to me by a prominent employee of another club. So l have no link, just a chat over coffee. They also said that our debt is over £150+million. So who knows. Any minutes been made public from the fans committee or fans chat to the club?
