I think we may sign an attacking midfielder or 2 - but I wouldn’t be confident insisting they would be first choices. If Chak and Asprilla stay, I think it would be hard not to see them starting the majority of games. The issue with that, is PL clubs would be less keen on giving us their players knowing that.
Why? Because he scored twice. Every time Girogi had the ball we looked dangerous. Not sure you can say the same for Watmore
They were the two standout players, but Watmore looked the more dangerous and was really unlucky not to get a hat-trick, plus the penalty shout. Giorgi had a really good game, but he made the wrong decision a couple of times, especially in the 4 v 2 situation in the 2nd half which would (and should) have put us 3-0 up and put the game to bed.
Seen a few people mention this (my recollection is a 3v2), but if I’m recalling correctly the players running with him were Bayo and Kayembe, with the former making essentially a straight run ahead of the ball that neither took a defender away, nor created more space for Giorgi to continue with the ball or play the other runner in. I’m sure Kayembe stayed really narrow too, which would have made any pass tough, particularly knowing you have to set up the left foot shot. Yeah, he probably should have done better, but I think his teammates made it harder to get right than it should have been.
The defending is basically non-existent. He hasn't actually even once looked like scoring for us from open play yet this season and has rather continued to show a lack of killer instinct in front of goal.
It’s great to see him doing well for his country, but let’s hope he can soon improve his goals and assists for us too. Only two goals so far in a Watford shirt is a poor return for a player of such quality.
Thank god. He wasn't on it today but he's still on his day one of the best if not the best midfielders in this division. Glad it's nothing serious.
Someone said on another thread that he has created more chances in open play than any other player in this league. Absolutely key for us. Enjoy him while we can.
I read that as well, very encouraging. He can pick a pass, run with the ball and on a rare attempt, score a cracker of a FK. Do we miss Asprilla? Not really, and having Vata and Baah as backups is more than adequate for this division.
Signed a new deal until 2029. https://x.com/WatfordFC/status/1839334114916520085?t=fhxY9PXnhkTLFj4hAdi9HA&s=19
Excellent news. One of the most naturally talented players in the league. Just needs to take his end product to the next level and he'll be a serious player.
I honesty expected him to move in January, so this is brilliant news for us. As @NathWFC said if he can get his shooting boots on a bit more after a mazy run he can dominate most games if they give him the time and space. I thought Asprilla was very good but I think Chak is on another level of technical ability and football brain. It's a real shame Louza is such a lazy bugger because with both of them firing each game we would actually have one of the most dangerous midfielders in the league. Vata and Baah have looked good as well, but I think Vata just needs a first goal for us and he will start scoring some chances he makes.
