Particularly as it will probably be too late by then! I presume Champions league stuff stopped this game from being next week or the one after?
Both Everton’s games in hand over us are away, where they have a terrible record. They have to go to Burnley, Liverpool, Leicester, us and Arsenal. (I’m not sure I want Burnley to beat them, however.)
That's a tricky one. If they draw on Wednesday Everton go 4pts clear of us, and we drop to 19th but who cares for now. If Burnley win, the gap for us remains three points which I would guess is what we want. If Everton lose their next two games (Burnley and Manure respective), and we lose to Leeds (which is more probable) then it's out of our hands almost entirely as Burnley would move 2 points ahead of us. So many possible outcomes, I see why HB1 loves the discussion.
Also bear in mind the new manager factor. I reckon if Everton lose to Burnley there is a good chance Frank will be sacked and big Dunc brought back. Your last sentence isn’t right, surely - because we still have to play Burnley?
Actually that's a good point. I forgot we still have to play Burnley. Forgive me, the games against them are hardly classics.
That said, if they win tonight I would think one more win and a draw will have them safe. Difficult to see either us or Burnley getting 32 points, imo.
The usual toxic pessimistic bile we've come to expect from you. 6 wins from our last 8 and we'd still be safe.
Out of interest, does anyone know why all of the games on the penultimate weekend of the season are scheduled for the Sunday as opposed to the Saturday?
I was surprised to see this. I thought the Cup Final had been restored to its place as the finale to the season.
No idea, since neither us or Everton are in the Champions league, I would not have thought it would have much bearing..... Unless I'm missing something of course.
Yes, you are. That there is an agreement that no PL games be scheduled on Champions League nights, although this has been relaxed due to Covid: hence tonight's game: https://theathletic.com/news/uefa-o...ith-covid-19-fixture-congestion/0KojYbc8thM7/
