Even "normal" horse riding is a lot more dangerous than e.g. normal swimming.

Horse riding on a foxhunt at speed with a pack of baying hounds is something else entirely.

A mounted 2 year old should have been nowhere near a fox hunt. At best she should be in a round pen under heavy supervision with someone walking alongside her.

Being mounted at an active fox hunt site, even if not taking part (as near as I can tell there's no detail either way as to whether or not the incident happened during the chase), is unbelievably risky. All it takes is one event to startle the pony and the child gets thrown, and probably killed.

You do rather appear to be seeking to defend ‘Country pursuits’. Even the choice of phrase is designed to disguise the nature of either tearing animals apart or blasting their flesh from their bones for fun, as if it’s something charming and bucolic, like a fete with yummy scones with jam and cream and more tea vicar?

I would imagine you would have had stronger words had this child died out mountain biking, wild swimming with its parents or some other activity you don’t feel the need to defend politically. But it would seem obvious that a two-year old cannot manage a pony in the countryside. The most they can do is sit on one in a controlled space while it walks around on a long rein.

Parental vanity is a real danger to children. You see it all the time, people treating toddlers like they can manage grown up situations or pressure. It’s certainly not confined to hunters.

I feel desperately sorry for these parents for their terrible folly and no judgement any of us pass is likely to be as harsh as their own. The inquest will tell us just how reckless it was.

Pretty sure others will confirm I am not a snowflake. I just found your comments disgraceful. Your non apology doesn’t change anything.

I wouldn't have 'strong words' for any parent that loses a child in an accident - only sympathy. Regardless of whether they were taking part in an activity of which I disapprove. And that is the point. For the record, I consider all forms of hunting abhorrent

Stronger words on here, not to them obviously. But fair enough.

Quite agree. The loss of a child is more than punishment enough on its own.

There's really no need to dogpile them when they're already going to be grief stricken.
  9. I don’t think you “upset” anyone. I think you just convinced a number of posters that you’re a bit of a heartless ****.

  10. A tragic accident and I feel for the young life lost

Can't say I feel a jot of sympathy for the parents though, quite happy to participate in barbaric blood sports

I've got no time for animal cruelty, I much prefer animals to humans. I hope the horse lashes out at her, see if she likes it eh?

At least he hasn't gone berserk and started chucking paint over parked cars
  13. I don't know anyone who's chucked paint over parked cars.

More beserk (more beserkers? Higher on the beserk scale?) to chuck paint over moving cars surely?

Surely the horse deserves a rematch? He got absolutely mugged off in the first fight, but I reckon with a bit of notice and a proper camp, he’d put up a much better show.

I'm actually in favour of more people fighting horses. I know it goes against the grain, but that's how I feel.
