Trump stated that because his legal team were not permitted oversight, as US law permits, that the FBI could be planting any manner of materials. A fair point, because that is what the law is there to prevent. Trump never said the documents didn’t exist. So that is a lie. It would have been like Obama saying he does not have the 33 million documents he took with him after his presidency. It is incredible that things that are in the public domain are ignored as if they never existed. He didn’t claim he had handed them all back. They knew he had them and they knew where he kept them, because he, to their own admission, gave them access to them only a couple of months ago. So more lies. Excellent piece in the FT explaining why it is important that Trump should be the subject of due process when in comes to this investigation and potential prosecution. I suspect a deal will be made behind close doors and Trump won't face court though. Of course the Trump cultists will portray this as Trump being "innocent" and will continue to ignore his lies. But I suspect the risk of social unrest from the minority MAGA extremists, as per 6th Jan, will weigh on the minds of those in charge.
