Prior to the season, I was surprised to read Aidy's admission that he was "ignorant of the foreign markets" out there and was concerned how that may affect the squads ability to stay up... Let me see if I can find a link... Here it is: Aidy admits foreign weakness The world is filled with tremendously talented and often unknown players (DeMerit for example) that could perform well at the right fee for Watford, so I felt it was a big piece of potential lost... Now it seems there are at least rumors of looking into players in Brazil or elsewhere. What do you suppose has changed to result in looking abroad? Has he edumicated himself? or is it Young's transfer money or possibly the beckoning dimness of relegation ahead spurring him? What do you think...
Yes, Aidy has to educate himself and with exposure to this level of football he will become more knowledgable about the international market. But it goes way beyond this - it is about the Club. Aidy was virtually starting without any network of international scouts, agents or advisers essentialy because we have had liitle money in recent years. An infrastructure is now being built and we are starting to see the "benefits" of this - of course, it has yet to be proven whether we can attract up and coming talent (the way that we did with Bouazza) or the more established DECENT foreign player(forget Sietes)! Like everything else at the Club at the moment this is still in its developmental stages and I am sure it forms part of the 5 year plan that we are now well into.
As a manager with little foreign experience, Aidy has to rely on scouts for information on these players. We didn't have the infrastructure to scout widely abroad, that is why we found it difficult to tap into the market. As we improve this scouting network, then we have a greater chance of seeing new talent at the Vic.
That makes sense...I'm sure when last years season began, he'd had little inkling that he'd be leading a Prem team this season...still feel it is a dream come true! I like the way he's handling himself and the squad.
